Chapter 9 - : Rightful Vengeance 1

The first explosion came from the south of the room. There are about twelve rows before us and my friend. I had expected that and tossed my friend under the desk with my right arm. My arm ached badly for the sudden exertion of strength. I did what I was able to do and succeeded in doing so.

Another explosion came from the western part of the room. I tried vaulting for cover and slide down. I hid under a pillar that successfully covered my retreat to safety. The students that were not fast enough got their backs pierced by sharp objects. I shouted to my friend, "Don't fucking move!"

He nodded with fear visible in his eyes. Another explosion came out and before I knew it, my friend was tossed to the southeastern side of the lecture room. I sprinted as if I was possessed. I dodged the fragments falling from the ceiling. A stray debris hit me in the back. I felt my body ache but it was not enough to stop me from saving my friend.

"Fuck, fuck, Hex, what the fuck is happening?" said my friend.

"Calm down," I said breathing. "Seems to be an attack."

"How the fuck are you so calm?"

"I just am. Follow me and we'll survive this."

We beeline through the chaos that assured. At the corner of my eye, I saw Leonov punching someone in the face. I didn't have time to do anything and went to the halls. Not yet. We were not safe and I could hear the howls of wolves echoing despite the noise.

A blast from the left, and I thankfully was a step late or else. The hallway was chaotic. The students were running around while the instructors desperately held to order despite the mess. I took my friend away from the lecture room. I had hopes that we won't encounter a rage-filled wolf-kin that wanted blood. A swipe from the claws of a wolf-kin almost took my scalp. I took out my pistol for a shot to the head.

The wolf-kin clawed it out of the hand. The pistol got disassembled easily. The wolf-kin saw the silver bullets that I was armed. The wolf-kin growled with its fangs gnashing. He must have misunderstood and this was a mistake on my part. The wolf-kin pounced at us with rage-filled eyes. I got easily tackled to the ground and I saw the wolf-kin aimed for my head. My friend didn't watch me die. He shouldered the wolf-kin and was able to free me from being pinned.

I pulled the spare I kept in my hoodie. The nose of the barrel pointed at the wolf-kin's head. No hesitation. I did what needed to be done and blew the head of that wolf-kin. The brain painted the wall and his eyes rolling near my feet. The revolver that I had on me made my wrist ached. That quick draw was reckless and it could have broken my wrist.

We're not yet safe. The fight between the wolf-kin and the others was starting to rage. It was at this part that Leonov would gather his companions.

"Look out!" a scream rumbled next to my ear. That scream wasn't fast enough to warn me about debris bashing the side of my right skull.

That blow to the head made me stagger and lost my balance. My friend caught me from falling and dragged me to cover. My head was ringing so hard that I was seeing doubles. My friend slapped both of my cheeks. Didn't help in the slightest. I was doing badly.

"Shit, don't fuck me over, bro!" said my friend. His name is Daren and he was a good friend that would lean me my shoulders at my time of weakness. I know that I had to save him from this bastardly fate of his. It was just not fair seeing him go down just because of the whims of fate. I understand that doing this will replace his death with another. I was a rogue variable that was not part of this event. Because I was not part of this event that I am able to save my friend from death in exchange for another student's life.

But the whims of fate wasn't that easy to satisfy. Like a stern mother that warned his child. I felt a large palm throw me into the nearby wall. My head still ringing. I aimed at the wolf-kin. I took the shot and was able to prevent the bastard from ripping my friend's guts. The wolf-kin tried to leap and finish me off. I pulled the trigger and hit the wolf-kin right at the jaw. I pulled the trigger again and missed. The wolf-kin wasn't letting me go after that shot.

I aimed at the wolf-kin who was rushing me. The barrel of my pistol tearing through the nose of the wolf-kin. It was another headshot and it took down that bastard. But that wasn't the last of them. I turned towards my friend, "Run to the stairwell! Now! I'll follow!"

I stood up while swaying. I aimed my pistol at the rushing wolf-kin. I shot. It missed. I shot again. This time it hit the wolf-kin right in the chest. Silver bullets were important in killing these bastards. The wolf-kin who dodged lifted me up and slammed my back on the door for two times before I put him down. I thought that was it. But the explosion from below dropped me down and there I was in the burning classroom with my hoodie charred, and my head ringing loudly than ever. I spit out blood from my mouth. I held my head as I picked up my six-shooter. I couldn't see with my right eye. I had three silver bullets left and reloading will take me time. I dropped my ammo while falling it seems. My body ached in pain but my mind told me to find my friend, Daren.

I had to keep moving despite the piercing pain of my limbs. There was no way other than forward and I choose this path for the sake of my good friend, Daren.
