Chapter 3 - :Hex

"Why?" she asked. She had a perpetual frown on her face. I took my attention to the coffee that I was holding. Under my table was my left hand ready to draw my pistol.

The café we are staying was near Tule Street. She followed me to this place with venom on her eyes. I invited her to coffee and shamelessly she agreed. Her face was curious. She's been asking that same question that I've grown tired of being polite. Calmly, tonelessly, and politely, was my motto. Her attitude of not giving a damn makes me angry to the point that I don't mind shooting her head right here. Bitch.

"Say that fucking word again and you'll have four holes in your stomach," I said hissing. She didn't even flinch. She stared at me with her dead fucking eyes. I know that she wouldn't be coming here without any sort of way to kill me. People like her tend to act like this first. I know because I know.

"Why?" she said again, not caring about my warning. The voice inside my head acted out. My finger itched so badly that I had to look at my surroundings to understand that I should not ruin this new life of mine. My mistake was entering that society. I took a step in a place that would never leave you alone.

I folded my arms and rested my chin in my hand. "I honestly could not care. I didn't want to kill at that time. Perhaps, you are that uncaring about the people you kill. I literally don't care. Why follow me here other than revenge?"

Calmness was not an issue. I have no qualms about this woman but she was surely the type that hated losing. I left her alone in that alley after beating her down like a dog. I honestly also forgot about her existence until she appeared. She has reasons to get back at me. This alone makes me cold-hearted enough to ignore what she wants. When dealing with people like her. It would be best to mirror her while hiding a blade beneath that illusion of false security.

People usually have values they care about. Attacking those values, and carefully dismantling them. But the person in front of me was a cold bitch whose intentions. I need to define her goal. Break it up. Tackle each layer until I successfully manage to solve all those layers.

But...my head felt like it was going insane. The laughter inside my head raged. My vision turned red as I glared hatefully at the woman who will ruin my life if she tries anything. I needed a card. I cannot let her ruin this life of mine. I yearned for this life so much that I am willing to throw all sorts of decency as a human being to achieve such goals.

But my words seem to have gotten to her. Fury was in her eyes but she subdued it with a smug look. She came prepared. This bitch came prepared before talking to me. It hasn't been a day and she had gone and get information from. I should kill her. No, I should murder her after taking down the fucks who gave my information.

"You...why do you hate me so? I thought that the person who'd spare me would have been kind-hearted. But you are not one. You...have a great rage inside you."

"When you have someone from Under-Society looking for you. It means trouble. You...are a devil that drags. I know your type. I want nothing to do with you. So either you give me a reason not to kill you or request a favor that would make you get the fuck away from me."

"You are a rude person. Not a tinge of tact. Should you really be saying that to the person who might ruin your life? I am quite surprised."

"I warn you. Do not go into that. I will retaliate with reckless abandon. I do not mind taking you down with all I have."

"I see. Your despicable attitude towards me has told me all I need. Your tone of voice. Your expressions. Looks like I was just some girl who you incapacitated. How utterly...infuriating. I thought I was good. But I was easily beaten by someone who spared me for no reason at all."

"Stop being paranoid then maybe you'd think less that way," I told her without holding back my scorn. That alone made her brows knit harder than it should.

"You are an unsightly man. Harsh with words. But I do not hate that. This puts me at ease at least. You do not flatter. You do not try to persuade your way out. You are so irrationally angered by my mere presence that you gave up on trying to convince me."

I know that I could have handled this better. If kept my mouth shut and talk less than necessary, I would have done better. There are many better ways to produce results other than scowling at her and showing hostility right at the bat. But she's a person that investigated me within a short time. She also has venom in her eyes that it was impossible for me to try and fool her.

Her expression was frosty than ice. The displeasure on her face and body language were clear as day. The smell of coffee was the only reason I wasn't pulling the trigger. Behind her were people that had been enjoying their day. If I pull the trigger then their day would be ruin. I do not wish harm to civilians. But if it means that I'll be able to remove this eyesore from existence. Then I'd gladly pull the trigger.

Shit. I needed to calm the fuck down. I knew that I was being too hostile. I don't even know this girl's name. She knows mine but I couldn't give a single shit about her name. She'll probably tell me a fake name anyway so I don't want to bother.

I confess that I am absolutely scared of what she might do. A single person could ruin your life. One move of this woman, I would be dragged to the city where the sun never shines. It would be to my utmost displeasure. It only takes so little to break my mind. I fear what I might do.

I've been inherently paranoid and sometimes devoid of emotions. But in this life, I do not wish to be dragged into that place. I know it was a mistake to follow Leonov's movements. Why the hell would the main character of this story need the help of a side-character like me? I was too conceited and now a mad dog was trying to drag me to hell.

"Hmm. If anything I want your help. I need to find a guy who had entered the Under-Society," she looked serious. I took a big whiff of air and said, "No."

She glared. "Oh? Is that what should you be saying at this instant?"

I did not hesitate in squeezing the trigger of my pistol. She quickly kicked my gun. I could hear the cocked of her pistol as well. She finally showed her fangs. The bitch finally made her move. She couldn't hide her fury now. She's been trying to calm down. I added salt on her wounds.

"You are a presumptuous man. I give you leniency but you choose to ignore it and make a mockery of it. I want your help. Yet you dare to refuse to know your circumstances?" She was fuming. I assumed a cold demeanor. "I couldn't give a single goddamn shit what your request is. Hah, if it is my fate to die then so be it."

"Your cocky attitude pisses me off. Did someone tell you that? How arrogant and garbage your personality is? I could kill you in your sleep for this!"

"Fucking try me, bitch."

She visibly clenched her hands. I glared at her. There was nothing but hate here. I absolutely don't want to make her feel like I was amiable with her. She's a variable I have no knowledge. In the story, she had no appearance. She was only mentioned in a few lines. But she was a dreaded person that gave a few people their end. That's why I am paranoid about the existence of this person in front of me. My instincts that came from experience told me to be careful. I should not let my guard down.

The day was starting to become night. The café was starting to lose their customers as time passes. The attendants were staring at us who were glaring at each other. I've no idea what they are thinking about. But if I make a single mistake then they would have been involved in a shootout between me and this bitch.

"How about we take this somewhere...quiet?" I said.

She snorted. "Is that so?"

That single moment of distraction was all I needed. I grabbed hold of her hand tightly enough to break it. She grimaced. Her eyes spat poison as she looks at my hand. "I see. You are a perverted man as well. I should have murdered you when you were walking so gently in the gates."

"I just don't want to involve others in my problem," I said. She tightly holds my hand with the same strength. I took out the money from my pocket. I placed it on the table. I dragged her out of the place and went to a secluded place riddled with building blocks. There were a lot of covers and importantly there was a great view. There was a small place that overlooked a preserved forest. It had unimaginable sight to behold since it was near the sparkling lake.

As I was about to take action. I saw the expression of a bitch. She was looking at the scenery with nostalgic eyes. It was only a moment of lapse for me. It was then that she turned her eyes towards me. "You...really are hateful."

"Huh?" I said. "What the fuck did I do to you?"

"Everything...I never thought that I would come to this place again. Honestly, I might forgive you a little if you did this, knowing my nickname was."

"You're Botan," I said without fear. "The Devil that drags...I heard of someone like you. But I don't get what the fuck you are saying. I only took you here just in case we started killing each other. So don't give me such a face. It's insulting. I fucking hate it that my urge to shoot you with a gun had increased."

"Why do you hate women so much?" she said.

"No. I don't."

She sneered. Fucking bitch. "I just hate people who are trying to mess my life up! I mean I did beat the shit of you. Left you alone in a cold fucking night. But can you please not ruin my entire life for that? You were the one who started it. Don't be such a sore loser!"

"I really, really, hate you, with all of my might. Fuck, it would be a shame to kill you. I should make use of you as someone I should bully every day."

"You fucking weirdo. Why would you do something like that? Waste your time messing with someone. Look, I know that you have a really bad personality, and worse, you're a killer, that means that you shouldn't be acting this way. A killer should be more than this."

She scoffed right at my face. "Says the guy who has been treating me so badly from the start. You know I was curious. But now I felt like this was the worst decision of my life."

It was then that I started to calm down. "I just don't want to be bothered. If it means anything. Forgive me for what I have done. Also, it would be best if you leave that man alone. He's...strong enough to smack down a werewolf or two. You saw it. You should probably know how the clan that had killed someone topside were reprimanded and purged by a single man. You're strong. But I don't think you can win against him. I am not mocking you. But it's mere facts that he would win. You're skilled but he's been killing for his entire life. He wouldn't lose to someone like you so easily."

She took my words to heart, strangely. She folded her arms. "I was merely curious. I didn't say anything about killing him. If someone like you are so wary of him. Then I'll take your words for granted."

"Oh really?"

"You are a paranoid creature. You're brimming with rage. If you are worried about someone like that. Then he must be truly inhuman. I am not foolish to seek my own death. Find, I'll leave. Don't expect that I'll forget about what you have done to me, though."

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

She strolled towards the building blocks. Her back was turned. I could shoot her in this distance. It was easy to do so and I wouldn't have to worry about someone like her. All I had to do was pull the trigger. I thought again and again. But seeing her walk made me think that it was impossible. And surely...I would meet this devil again.
