Chereads / A Twilight Promise / Chapter 42 - Kanade's World

Chapter 42 - Kanade's World

"Mommy, how did you met daddy back then?" A question Kanade asked her mother back then.

"Fate." Her mother would say when her daughter asks this question.

"Fate?" Kanade would stumble upon this word every time Yuuki said it.

"Back then, I had a disease that greatly affected my daily life, The doctors even said that I would die a few years later. At that moment, I felt helpless, why couldn't I live the same life as my peers? A normal girl. Is what I wanted." Yuuki said. Reminded of the old days, her tone changed.

"Mommy?" Confused of the sudden change of tone, Kanade tilted her head. Yuuki would pat her daughter's head, convinced that she is no longer her past self.

"I gave up on trying to live, doing whatever as I please. A few months later, I heard of there is another patient with the same disease. I got curious, so I looked for him." Yuuki explained.

"He was having a nightmare, his expressions looked funny, but he was definitely scared. I don't know what to do, so I whispered to his ears, saying let's see the twilight after he wakes up." Yuuki said.

"Why the twilight, mommy?" Kanade asked.

"Because I loved it?" Yuuki giggled.

"Being near to a guy for the first time made my heart jumped, I quickly returned to my ward and covered myself in my blankets. It was the first time I've met him. Eventually, he shared a lot of stories from his side, that made me convinced that he was the one I met back then when I was younger." Yuuki said.

"I was out to help my mother with groceries, but I got lost on the way home. It was him, who appeared before me. He was so scary that I can't help myself but to cry. He told me to look at the sky, saying that the twilight only happens for a moment as a transition between day and night, it was beautiful, his words made me fascinated with the twilight since then." Yuuki said in a lovestruck expression.

"Did daddy know about this?" Kanade asked. Yuuki put a finger to Kanade's lips.

"Shhh... Don't tell daddy, let's make this a secret okay?" Yuuki said. Kanade nodded.

"We spent a lot of time together, knowingly that our days together would end, we promised each other to live our lives the fullest. I gathered some children in the same hospital and formed a drama club, with Kei-kun's father, and some others. It was a fun memory..." Yuuki said.

"It was fate, that allowed me to meet with him after all the years. Eventually my big brother found the cure to our disease... I'm supposed to be sent overseas because there is better equipment over there. Of course, I approved as well!" Yuuki said while showing her thumb.

"I decided to spend my other years travelling out there and even picked up photography, taking pictures of twilights from different places. It took me three years to return to Hoshido, to finally meet him again..." Yuuki said in a lovestruck expression.

"Eventually we got married, and then we got you, Kanade-chan." Yuuki explained.

"Wooow... Fate is amazing! I want to meet my fated one too!" Kanade said in awe.

"You'll sure find your fated one, Kanade-chan... I'm sure." Yuuki pats on Kanade's head as she smiles innocently.

"Kujou-san, are the beakers ready?" A fellow science club member asked.

"O-Oh, right here, they're ready." Kanade responded.

"What happened? You're not always like this." The member asked.

"I was thinking of something else, but it's fine. Let's proceed to the next step." Kanade said.

"Kujou-san, there is a student who is here to visit." Another member called.

"Right, let them in." Kanade said. The science club is doing a few simple experiments, trying to attract some new members to join their club.

"Hello, Kana-nee." Keita said.

"Oh, Kei-kun!" Kanade exclaimed.

"I'm just here to visit." Keita said.

"It's alright, feel free to look around. As long as you don't touch anything, they won't get mad at you!" Kanade said as she goes back to work.

"It's busy here... Unlike the art club." Keita murmured. He walked and looked around the different tables, each of them are working on different experiments, from vials of liquids changing colours to making volcano like reactions.

"Guess I'll head back to my club. It's interesting to see these experiments up close." Keita complimented before returning to his club.

"Kujou-san, who is that guy?" A member asked.

"Ah... He's my neighbour, as well as my childhood friend." Kanade said.

"I've never heard about that Kujou-san." Another member said.

"Seeing Kujou-san being so chummy with a guy gives me complicated feelings huh." Another member said.

"U-uh! Just keep working on your experiments please!" Kanade said. It took a while for the laughter in the room to fade, they all returned to their experiments, trying to attract more members to join their club.

Keita returned to the art club, with only Takahashi-sensei, Mio and Natsumi in it, the room arrangement changed, there is a desk in the middle of the room, with a few 3D objects placed on a piece of cloth on it. Mio and Natsumi is sitting in front of the desk, with some sketching tools with them.

"Oh, Futaba-kun, you're back. You may take a seat somewhere and do some sketching from your angle." Takahashi-sensei said.

"I'll try my best." Keita said as he sat down. With the unfamiliar tools, he managed to grasp the basic shapes that forms up the object, and that's it.

"That's some nice lines over there." Takahashi-sensei complimented.

"You should get into shading next. Notice the difference in tone on the different surfaces? Depends on the amount of light that lands on the surfaces, the tone varies." Takahashi-sensei explained.

"Understood..." Keita proceeds into shading, under Takahashi-sensei's guidance, he finished his sketch.

"Alright, good work today. Let's leave your canvases here so that visitors can see what we have done today." Takahashi-sensei said at the end of the club activity.

"Huh, Shiroyuki-kun, this is a good sketch, not only you sketched the object, but me and Futaba-kun as well huh?" Takahashi-sensei felt amazed with Mio's sketch.

"Ah-ah... I overdid it..." Mio said.

"Well, it's not bad at all! I'm sorry to take your painting time away by forcing you to do this together." Takahashi-sensei apologized.

"It's alright..." Mio replied.

"Well, there is some documents I have to work on, you all may go home now. See you again tomorrow." Takahashi-sensei said as he left the room.
