Chapter 38 - Mio Shiroyuki's World

Mio Shiroyuki, 17 years old, is the only daughter in her family. She had problems expressing herself since she was young. On day, during her elementary school years, she discovered painting.

Though they really look like a child's doodle, on a closer inspection, each stroke from the brush seems to represent her mood at the time she was painting it. Being deemed as a coincidence, she did it every day.

It took a few months until an artist looking for inspiration saw her holding a small canvas while walking down the road. Curious, he followed the little girl. When he got closer, he talked to her.

"Hey, little girl. I saw this canvas here, are you doing paintings?" The artist asked. The young Mio nodded.

"Could you show me your paintings?" The man in his thirties asked. Though it looks weird from the outside, his tone were so earnest that even a child like Mio understood that he had no ulterior motives.

"This... This painting put my last one to shame..." Upon inspecting the painting, the artist was in awe. Such talent from such a young age was too rare.

"I want to talk to your parents." The artist said. Mio nodded and led him to the hospital. While he was doubting if she got lost, she clearly remembers the way to her working parents.

"Ah, Mio-chan! Are you here to visit your papa?" A nurse recognised her. She nods in response, with that, the artist is now standing in front of the great doctor Hiro Shiroyuki.

"You, Shuntarou Murasaki." Dr. Hiro recognises him, a local artist who has been contributing to the community museum, even have exhibitions around the globe over time.

"It's honoured to meet you sir. I'm here to discuss about your daughter's talent in painting." The artist Shuntarou said. He eloquently persuaded him into allowing her daughter to display her paintings in the local gallery, which then brought her fame and recognition from the community.

Remembering these past memories, Mio is painting her new painting, to properly express her feelings to Keita. Apparently, the famed artist went overseas to look for inspiration, rumoured to have fallen in love with a foreign maiden and stayed there for quite some time.

"BAM!" The door of the art room slid open and collides with the frame, causing a loud noise.

"Mio-chan, Sorry! I'm late!" Kanade came in apologizing while dragging Keita into the room.

"Huff huff... That hurts, Kana-nee!" Keita exclaimed, as he gently touched the bandages covering his wounds.

"What happened?" Mio suddenly appeared right in front of Keita, surprising him.

"Wha...! Uh, I was protecting Kana-nee from a ball, then I got hurt." Keita answered.

"Are you alright?" Mio asked. Keita's face is flushing red, for a girl to talk to him this closely. Even Kanade is trying not to look.

"Uh... Mio-senpai... You're too close...!" Keita backs himself up at a corner as Mio suddenly became aware of her behaviour.

"Kyaa! I'm sorry...!" Mio apologized.

"Huff... It's so exhausting... Why am I even here..." Keita sulked.

"Oh, right! To encourage you to join a club, of course!" Kanade suddenly remembers the reason why she dragged him here. Mio, too, nodded in agreement.

"So that's what it is... Very well, any suggestions on which club I should join?" Keita asked. While both of them pondered without a reply, they were imagining him doing different things.

"Shogi Kei-kun... He must be so calm and cool when he devastates his opponents!"

"Baseball Kei-kun... He could just become a star playing that..."

"Soccer Kei-kun... He must be very cool playing soccer..."

"Science Kei-kun? Then he could make some fun experiments with me?"

"Art Kei-kun... Can show him paintings every day."

"The science club!" "Art club...!" The two of them said at the same time. They wanted Keita to join their clubs.

"Science club sounds like a pain. It's not like we can do much in this school." Keita said.

"What do you want to do? Rocket science?" Kanade asked in response.

"N-Not really..." Keita said. The reason is being with Kanade made him feel awkward. He looked at Mio, trying to hear out what she has to say.

"Art club, I can show you my paintings every day." Mio said.

"I don't even know how to paint..." Keita said.

"Oh... I need five members... Or the art club will be disbanded..." Mio said.

"Oh... Guess I'll fill in the spot then, but just as a ghost member." Keita said.

"By the way, how many members are there now?" Kanade asked.

"Six." Mio said.

"Whaat?! You have enough members though!" Kanade exclaimed.

"Ehehe..." Mio laughed.

"I can't believe it! At least Kei-kun's got a club now! Cheers!" Kanade celebrated.

"Oh shoot, I should be in the club, I've been pushing matters to the vice president while I'm here. See you later!" Kanade sped off towards her club. Silence fills in the room as Kanade is gone.

"Mio-senpai, so... What to do now?" Keita asked, since he is now considered a member of the art club.

"Ah, maybe I'll clean around." Keita added. As he looked around, the floor is actually clean. Mio must have been cleaning every day.

"Or maybe not... How about the trash?" He looked over to the trash bin, empty. Mio must have been taking care of the trash regularly.

"Huh? I've got nothing to do!" Keita said.

"I'm sorry... I never thought you'll agree to join my club. I've been cleaning when I come to school every day." Mio said.

"It's understandable, since it's only you in the club after all." Keita took a stool and sat down. As the occasional breeze swirls by, he observes Mio doing her painting as time flies through the remaining club activity hours.

Mio's mentor was the well known artist, Shuntarou Murasaki. She remembers a quote he used to say back then.

"Mio, when an artist's inspiration gets blocked, it may cause the inability to create new artworks. During this time, search for the source of this block in your soul. Or maybe from others, once you find it, you may find your inspirations overflowing out like crazy."

"Are you in a block now?" The young Mio asked.

"Sadly, yes. I was searching for inspiration on the street, yet I found you. A rare talent that should be refined, I wouldn't be so confident to call myself a good mentor, yet you learn fast, your techniques are improving day be day. You shall surpass me in due time." Shuntarou said.

"I'm not that great at all... My friend still don't understand my paintings yet..." Mio said in a blushed face. Noticing that, he pats on her head.

"It's fine. One day, he'll understand your feelings." Shuntarou said as he smiles.

Back to painting, it seems like she started using vibrant colours again, it seems like the block she had been suffered for years is finally gone, just like Shuntarou had said, "you may find your inspirations overflowing out like crazy."
