Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

Irvene's point of view

Although he already left after that, his words were not meant to be taken lightly. He's a member of the Welsey family, one of the twelve most well-known family in our country. It's not hard for him to obtain any information regarding our identities. It might not be that accurate but it's enough to raise so much suspicion to him, and that might even spread to the other families.

"Don't mind him. In a few days time, we don't need to live this way anymore," Vaughn said.

Somehow, he's right, but.. we would still be kept in the dark. Always.

"But, what if they found out about it earlier?" Sid asked.

Vaughn stopped his tracks and looked among us.

"No matter how hard they try, they wouldn't find out the whole truth," he said. A sudden chill gushed through the wind after he spoke.

He's slowly becoming like Brother Mavien! A fearsome fellow. Even though, brother's young to become a temporary Ruler, no one succeeded to even pressure him and won against him to steal the throne until now.

His past enemies might only be counted within his hands, but it's enough to instill fear to others, especially when people reminisced of his times as a student. I don't know the details about him as a student, but I only knew that it's the time when my brothers made a name for themselves.

We didn't walk directly to the castle. Since the situation isn't entirely in favor of us, it's best to be extremely careful about our actions.

A two-story house that took us enough minutes to walk, welcomed us. It's located at the Miners Village.

This is one of the houses that my father ordered to build for the homeless people in his time, and until today those families still live in this village and as its name says, this people have been given work as miners at Spirit Mountain.

It's understandable to be given houses for them, but my father left an empty house here and give its ownership to me. He's thinking is always different yet, today, I realized that we need this house in time of urgency. We should have started to live here before going to Soul'e Magic High to avoid their suspicions.

We'll stay here for one week, but we will use our portal to come back to the castle for our important matters and then, stay in this house before going to school. In this way, if someone managed to follow us, they wouldn't see us entering Soul'e Castle.

"I'll take the room to the right upstairs," Meryll said.

"Alright, then mine would be the left ones," I said.

"We'll take the two bedrooms here," Vaughn followed.

After designating a room for each of us, we took a rest and save energy for tomorrow's competition.

**

The sun rose already, and since we have no spare school uniforms in this house, we used our portal to reach the second floor of the castle. After dressing up and preparing our things for school, we came back to the small house. We walked from there to the school.

All the students from the first to the sixth level went directly to the Magic Arena. The second round determines the student's speed. Those who finished the fifty laps within the allotted time would advance to the next round. None of the students would be eliminated if they all succeed to reach the fifty laps within an hour.

Not long after, the competition started for the first level students, followed by the second level, and so on and so forth.

Since the students use magic, it's not hard to finish the laps, but the problem is we are allowed to block their paths, and stop them from moving forward. Although, it will require critical thinking since a student can't possibly waste all his time blocking one's path and don't run forward.

A group have been formed once again and came up with a strategy. For every person that would be eliminated in this round, one could earn points and it will be added to the points they earned during the first round.

When it's our turn, Lianna and his team attempted to stop us, but they always failed. We just keep moving forward and complete the fifty laps. They had a hard time since the other teams also stop them, so we always get farther from them before they could stop us.

Only her group have been stopping us while the others seemed to avoid us. I wonder why.

The situation has been like that for the remaining rounds every day. Lianna always tries to challenge us in every round. I could say that she's quite talented since she could always advance to the next rounds. Even the Student Council President has been breaking records and it looks like he's just playing an easy game and not a competition.

Only students that are less than ten persons each level, managed to remain until the fifth round has been finished. The competition is going smoothly and I don't know if it's a good thing or not. There's no one who violated the rules of the game and it seems that the students feared something or someone if they dared to do shady things during the competition.

"Congratulations to the students who successfully reached the top of the competition! Today is the fifth day of the Magic Battle Competition that is already finished. I know that all the students have been waiting for the announcement regarding the competition during the sixth day. Normally, the last day of the competition would be a battle among the students for each level and only each one per level would be the champion," the instructor said.

"However, this year would be different. We would assign the remaining students into five groups with different levels and will defend their flags in an assigned position. Obviously, there are five flags but the victorious group would only be determined if they got all the flags. So if a team had their flags stolen, they still wouldn't be eliminated. As long as the flags aren't completed by a single group, the battle will remain," he continued.

What? I could sense something wrong about this competition. The four of us looked at each other with furrowed eyebrows.

Our suspicions didn't fade when the teams are announced. Vaughn said that it is not really assigned randomly. The winners are mostly from the twelve most well-known families, and he said that those students that are relatives and have close ties to other families are grouped to each other.

Also, the four of us belongs to one group! What kind of coincidence is this?
