The water glistened in the sunlight, the sound of waves crashing onto the shore filled my ears. "I'll be back Andere, don't do anything stupid!" Adrin called raising his hand and walking away. "Ok uncle," I replied rolling my eyes.
I'm only 7 years younger than Adrin but he is my mom's younger brother. She had me and my twin sister Shira when she was 23. Adrin was more like a brother than an uncle but sometimes he acted as if he was my dad. I guess he feels like it's his obligation since my dad is dead.
"I guess it's just me and you General Kinara," I said formally, turning towards her.
"I need to go take care of some business, I'll be back in less than 10 minutes." Kinara said pushing her wristband up her arm.
"Oh, are you sure it isn't to confess your undying love for Adrin?" My mouth curved into a teasing smile. "Shut it kid! I'm years older than him." Kinara yelled hitting me on the top of the head.
"So scary!" I squealed as I rubbed the spot where she hit.
I looked up, Kinara had already rounded the corner of the white stone wall separating the castle from the beach. I could see the remnant of her long light brown hair disappear.
I went and got my ball and started throwing it into the air then kicking it back into my hands.
"Why did everyone leave?" I asked myself. I kicked the ball it never landed in my outstretched hands. I looked up to see my ball fall into the water and start to drift away from the shore. I can't lose this ball, I though.
The ball was the last gift I got from my father before he was killed in the war and I didn't want to lose it. It was the only thing I could remember him by.
I kicked up sand as I ran to the spot the where I saw the ball land. I took off my white and gold jacket and threw my sword beside it. Then I ran into the water splashing. Suddenly, something pulled me from my feet. I screamed but nothing, but the sound of gargling came out. I tossed and flipped in the current like a rag-doll. I reached out, but the of course, there was nothing to hold onto. Just as I was about to lose my consciousness, I saw a figure of a girl with copper hair reaching out to me. Then everything fades into black.
