Chereads / The Moon Pendant: Aurora / Chapter 2 - Adrin

Chapter 2 - Adrin

I stepped out of the castle kitchen, in my hands, a tray with a variety of foods. I hurried back to the beach. I hope Andere didn't do anything stupid, especially without me or Kinara there with him, I thought as I walked out onto the beach. To my absolute horror, I see Andere lying on the sand unconscious and a few feet away a girl, floating in the water, waves crashing over her face. She was obviously in bad shape, her rib cage poked through her wet clothing.

"What happened here?" I asked myself. That's when Kinara came around the corner. "Adrin!" She yelled "What happened?"

"I don't know! I just came back from the kitchen and…" I trailed off. I looked down, in my shock I had dropped the tray of food.

"Well let's not just stand here every moment is precious," Kinara said calmly "you take the girl, I'll take Andere," she commanded.

"How can you be so calm?" I asked Kinara as I ran into the water.

"I am the general of the eastern army," She replied.

I lifted the girl out of the water. Expecting more resistance, I applied too much strength into lifting and almost fell backwards onto the wet sand. She looked like she hadn't eaten in days and her weight didn't beg to differ.

"Kinara," I said looking in her direction. She already had Andere in her arms "let's go take them to the hospital" I said remembering that both Andere and the girl needed immediate medical attention.

We ran as fast as we could around the castle walls to the main entrance to the Royal Aurora Castle Hospital. By the time we got to the main gate, I was completely out of breath. I could feel the girl's heart beating faintly against my own, but then suddenly, I couldn't feel it anymore.

"Kinara her heart stopped!" I yelled panicking

"Adrin, you go on ahead with the girl, and hurry every moment wasted is life-threatening." Kinara said hastily, while adjusting Andere in her arms.

As I ran to the emergency department, I was more worried about how my sister would kill me, than what I would say when I got to the emergency department, especially with my status.

Adrin

"Help!" I yelled as I burst through the wood and glass doors. "P-Prince Adrin," the receptionist said in surprise, she stood up quickly. "What's wrong?" a doctor inquired, her eyebrows raising in concern. "This girl needs help!" I exclaimed. "General Kinara and I found her and Prince Andere past out on the beach and right as we reached the hospital courtyard I couldn't feel a pulse. Kinara, General Kinara said 'go on ahead.'" I said breathlessly quieting down. I looked around everyone in the waiting room was staring, some were even had their cells out videotaping the whole ordeal. That's is going to be a problem, I thought.

"Was she in the water?" A nurse asked pulling a gurney in front of me, so I could put the girl on it. "Yes, but she was floating in the shallow water on her back.'' I replied, swiftly but gently placing the girl on the gurney. The Doctor swept in right away and started to pump on the girl's chest. Soon both the doctor and the mystery girl disappeared into a room, a curtain closing behind them.

Moments later, Kinara and Andere came through the doors. Andere was already on a gurney, coughing up water. I guess Kinara did some CPR, I thought. I looked at the nurses' station were Kinara was talking to a nurse. I should've paid more attention in that class. I thought rubbing my temples.

"Prince Adrin, you should go stay with your nephew until Princess Yuno and Princess Shira arrive, we are currently trying to figure out the identity of the girl. Do you know who she is?" Another doctor asked, guiding me to the room where Andere was in. I shook my head then nodded politely and sat down in a chair beside the bed and sighed.

Seeing her shadow in the tinted wood framed glass, I called out. "Kinara," I said.

"Yes, Prince Adrin?" she replied popping her head in through the door.

"When my sister gets here, let's head back to the beach to investigate what happened and maybe figure out who this 'mystery girl' is, and whether she is friend of foe" I said rubbing my hands in front of my face.

"Ok then" She nodded bowing her head slightly then disappearing behind the glass walls again.

"Oh, and Kinara, you can stop being so formal no one's even here anymore," I said quietly. She laughed, "no one, if you don't count the people in the waiting room, the cleaner, pretending to mop in front of the room and all the nurses gathered at the nurses' station." She said pointing at each group. I laughed too, "and those technicians fixing the holo also at the nurses' station," I added.

"Well general," I said trying to drown out the commotion from the other room. "Can you protect me from the wrath of my sister? Please?" I begged, remembering my scary sister would be coming any second.

"Sorry, but no I'll be too busy protecting myself, just use your sword," she replied. I looked over at Andere sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed.

"Did you forget she is a better swordswoman than me!" I exclaimed, yep I am definitely going to die.

"Adrin!" the sound of my sister's wrath echoed throughout the hospital. I could see her storming towards us. A shiver went down my spine, "Kinara my sister's here, can we go?" I pleaded. "Too late she's already coming this way," Kinara half-whispered, half-squeaked.

"Adrin! Kinara! Come here! We need to have a little chat," Yuno yelled storming into the room only stopping to tell Shyra to stay with her brother. She stormed over to me and without saying a word pulled me by the cape, then Kinara at the door by her ear. She dragged us to a room the she began.

"Why is Andere here and not at the beach?" She asked menacingly I could feel the heat of her anger radiating off her.

"We were only gone for a little bit. I was in the kitchen getting refreshments and Kinara was checking on the guard-post on the far side of the beach. I came back from the castle kitchen and I saw Andere unconscious on the beach and a mysterious girl was floating in the water that's when we brought them here." I explained rubbing my hands together nervously.

"Wait there was a girl on the beach? Is she awake? Maybe she knows what happened." My sister bombarded us with questions. I looked at the floor. "To answer your question yes there was a girl, but we don't know where she came from. To my knowledge she is in critical condition and probably isn't going to wake up for a while. And we were going to go back to the beach to investigate the matter further," Kinara reported tapping her boot on the floor.

"I'm going to let you go do that, just be careful the press is already outside. Don't tell them anything about Andere or the girl," Yuno instructed. "Damn social media, "she mumbled before walking out of the room. "I'm shook. I thought she was going to kill us," I breathe, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Let's get going," Kinara said in a monotone voice pulling me by my white cape just like Yuno did. "I can walk without you pulling me," I yelled frantically waving my arms trying to regain my balance. She let go of me not even stopping to tell me how we were going to get out. I followed her silently, as we got to the front doors she whispered, "just don't say anything to them."

I felt my muscles tense up. Ever since I was very little I hated reporters. The fact all the attention was on me. I always used to hide behind my sister in public situations but now I must look perfect in public not hiding behind anything or anyone.

I felt Kinara's hand on my shoulder, I took a deep breath and stepped outside. As soon as we got outside the reporters surrounded and bombarded us with questions such as: "How is Prince Andere doing?", "Who was that girl you were carrying in the video?", or "people are saying that the girl is your secret girlfriend, what you have to say about that?" Each time either me or Kinara answered "no comment."

I guess they realized we weren't going to answer any questions, so they cleared a path. We ran towards the beach not even looking back once.
