Tara
I remembered what happened after the gunshot. Leilani and I ran away from our home and away from Joseph. I could feel the pain in my heart. Ma and Pa were dead and our survival depended on me. Leilani and I continued running and never looked back.
The evening sky was getting darker. Leilani couldn't continue running as her feet were aching. "Leilani, just be patient. We will stop when we find shelter." I really pity my sister. She didn't deserve this. WE didn't deserve this. That bastard, Joseph Lee, should go to hell! Leilani and I continued walking on the road which looked like a dark alley and the moonlight was the only light source.
"Didi, look over there. We can stay there tonight."Leilani whispered to me as she pointed at an old hut. It was in a bad condition but it would do for us. As soon as the sun rose the next day, we would leave. I nodded at my sister and we made our way to the hut. That was when I felt a hard hit on my head and heard Leilani screaming. I started feeling dizzy and geld my head in pain. I felt my fingers wet and took a look at them. There was blood on them and I fell to the ground. "You're done with me yet, baby doll." That was the last thing I heard before I got drifted I to pitch darkness.
A dew moments later, I opened my eyes in pain. My body couldn't move and realised that my hands and legs were tied up. I saw Leilani opposite me, still unconscious and she was tied up too. I could tell that we were held as captives by Joseph in a warehouse. Then, I heard footsteps. 'It must be him', I thought and pretended to be unconscious.
"Look, I need you to be here in 30 minutes! You will get the younger one and I'll take the older one. And be there with an extra 50% of what I asked for."
Joseph ended the call and I could hear was total silence after that. I opened my eyes quickly and scanned the warehouse for an escape. Luckily, u found an evil at the corner of the warehouse. I started kicking Leilani's leg and she woke up. I put my index finger on my lips, indicating that she should be silent. We tried to untie the ropes on out hands and legs. Finally, we succeeded in a minute.
"Leilani, get out using the exit over there. Just run and never look back." A look of shock was written on my sister's face.
"But Didi, Ma and Pa are gone now. I don't want to lose you too. "Tears were rolling down her cheeks. Oh God, she needed to understand.
"Joseph is going to sell you to someone else. If you don't escape, we will be separated forever. Leila, don't worry about me. I'll be alright and I promise to come back to you as soon as possible." I comforted her.
Leilani wiped her tears and stood up slowly. She walked towards the exit and mouthed 'I'll wait for you' before she disappeared behind the door. I stood up and walked around, searching for anything I could use for self-defense. I saw a Glock 39 and a pair of glove on the floor a few metres away from me. I got up quickly and grabbed them quickly. I hid behind a pillar and waited for Joseph to show up. Then, I heard Joseph's footsteps. I put on the gloves immediately and tried to keep my hands steady and be ready for that shot.
"Where have these kids went? They were right here!" Joseph roared. "Come out, baby doll."
He was looking for me behind a stack of boxes. This was my chance. I aimed the Glock 39 at his left leg and pulled the trigger. The shot was so perfect. Joseph Lee starred to howl in pain and turned behind. He had found me at my hiding spot and all I saw was pure rage in his eyes.
"You bitch! You think you can take me down just like that? You are going to get it from me." Joseph said as he clenched his teeth. He pulled out his Glock 17 and limped forward as she aimed it at me. Without any hesitation, I shot his right leg and he fell to the ground. He was yelping in pain and couldn't move. I saw a metal pipe lying on the floor. I picked it up and walked towards Joseph.
"This is what a bastard deserves for causing my parents' death. Send my regards to Satan in hell. "I spat and hit his head with the pipe. He yelled and laid motionless.
I dropped the Glock 39 and ran out through the exit. The cool night breeze gushed to my face. I took a right turn and started running. I didn't know where I should go but I continued to run as far as my legs could carry on. After a few minutes, I came to a stop. I was too exhausted and I needed to rest. As I saw looking for shelter, I saw a lorry by the side of the road and the door of the load was open. Without thinking, I got into to the load and hid myself behind a few stacks of boxes with the words ROBERTS ENTERPRISES. Thank God, there was enough space for me to lie down. After a few minutes, I heard the door closed and the lorry started to move. I didn't know where I was going, but I know I'm safe from Joseph Lee.
"Don't worry, Leilani. I will be back for you." Tara promised in her heart.
