Chapter 2 - One

Looking around, the situation wasn't so easily discernible and clear as the inherent sight of a slime seems to be rather... poor.

"The eagle eyes slimes are so renown for is seemingly quite lacking." Sarcasm perpetuates the newborn slime's body, dark clouds could faintly be seen around his non-existent face.

[Flashback to the day before]

Deal Shan was running after a regular yet uneventful day at work.

The place he loved the most was his destination. A world apart from his own.

While a little grumpy for having missed his train, seriously reducing his time there, he walks up towards a majestic yet quaint looking building on the corner of the street.

"The Library.." Deal muttered with a slight smile as he still had two hours to spend there.

He greeted the librarian as usual who was a young yet brilliantly vibrant looking girl who just had a face that one wanted to take care of. Beautiful straight blond hair yet a petite face with all the right proportions. A faint smile lingering constantly on her lips.

"Ahh, when would I get a girl like that?" He mumbles again as he makes his way past her as she was occupied with customers renting, and only replied to him with a nod.

Deal wasn't an ugly guy but he always felt he was more the type one should get to know if they wanted to see his charms. Unfortunately, he always got anxious and stopped while feeling conflicted at his lack of courage.

Regardless, as a 24 years old bachelor, he was currently just living while working, trying to one day prosper like all the rest. Only, the solution was never easy.

Walking past the familiar shelves and counters, he arrives at the furthest corner of the fourth floor of the library. The city library being an enormous seven-story building was a joy to many who lived in the city as knowledge was always something sought after, regardless of era.

The fourth story corner was knowledge, yes but was a little eerie for the regulars of the library.

The fourth story contained quite the amount of literature but it was always surrounded by this ghastly and slightly ominous feeling.

It contained the section on ancient writings but the deepest corners hold some of the original scriptures from certain "organizations" as Deal calls them from their beliefs to their practices.

They were original scriptures but depicted in old books. The very true first copy was but a mark left in time through death still lived on.

People did find him odd as there were slightly occult-related texts as well but he got away without being flagged a "creep" to his great relief when he played off being an ancient texts enthusiast that is also trying to work in the field one day.

Which among scholars at least, is a noble aspiration and so the community didn't label him anything weird especially as he had a large smile and got along with people even if his girl game was only existent in his imagination.

Deal, on the other hand, had a completely different reason for his so-called "studies".

He was a true blood believer you could say, that the world has more for us than we have understood even in modern-day where satellites have scoped the surface of the earth and humanity has risen to great heights.

Fantasy was always a love for him but it was the possibilities of a world that was uncovered that led him to this road. Mankind knew so little and was proven wrong repeatedly on its journey of growth to greater heights among the expanse that is the universe.

He was reading studiously through ancient literature to find out what each of them discovered. Without bias or a clouded mind. He sought to simply know what was a human capable of doing.

Different eras had different practices, habits, beliefs, myths, and achievements. The uniqueness that came along with each and every one of those different tribes, groups and "organizations" brought pleasure to the young man.

This day was like any other as he enjoyed his readings. Towards the end of his two-hour limit, he had decided to tidy up and started placing his books back when one got accidentally knocked over the table.

"Must be a little tired. These are delicate books." He whispered as he was afraid of ruining these old texts but the book that fell was luckily something that seemed to be in better conditions than the really old ones.

Picking up the book and whipping the dust off, he read the words on it but his mind went blank for a moment.

A black and red glow shone as his vision faded while Deal stood there with the book rapidly flipping through its pages within moments. Feeling a slight headache Deal looked down and saw that the books were arranged and he seemingly forgot putting the last few away.

He remembered the book he was holding but the aching pain in his head distracted him which made him simply chalked it off as mental fatigue.

He went back home to his studio apartment to sleep it off as he still had work the next day.
