Chapter 2 - The walk home- Alice

There was something off with him on that walk home. Generally, Jack is a person who never overreacts. But he had a a pep in his step like he could start sprinting at any moment. His usual crystal blue eyes had turned to the color of Dust Lake. I wanted to say something, to comfort him but I didn't know how. So I tried.

"Jack..." I said, praying he would acknowledge me trying to talk to him. If he would accept my words of comfort. He stopped and turned to me.

"Alice. Stop." He said, his eyes were as cold as midnight. I stared to the floor as we just kept walking. I wonder what was running through his mind. He obviously was upset but my efforts had failed. How could I cheer up Jack. I jumped in front of him, knowing the consequence. He looked at me with those icy eyes, where on glare could give you hypothermia. I saw his expression was blank, waiting for an emotion to come a fix him. So my comfort strategies being low, I hugged him. He accepted it and we shared a warm embrace on this cold December day.

"Jack. You will never have to go through this alone." I said softly. He squeezed me tighter as I felt his tears leaking through my coat. He wiped them away and put on a tough face with his smile.

"Thank you Alice," he said beaming, "I don't know what I would do without you." I remembered how he asked me to stop, and the anger I felt and the sadness. How did he make me feel this many emotions? I looked at him and put on my smile, thinking about that question.
