Chapter 3 - Arrival-Jack

I arrived home half-past six to see my mother in the kitchen. A cough muffled by the door startled Alice. I looked down the hallway to see the door to Daisy's room. My mother had a pained expression. She looked up at me with hollow eyes. I nearly started to cry then, but in the corner of my eye I saw a small American flag. Next to it was a telegram. I dropped my bag and rushed over to look at it. I read each word carefully. 'We are saddened to inform you of the death of Henry Arnold Peters Jr.' I dropped the telegram for it to be picked up by Alice, who dropped it all over again. A cold chill ran through my body as I yearned for little affection to fill my empty heart. As if I was just tugged at the heartstrings and I didn't know what to do. I felt two small arms wrap around me and if was so warm. Like marshmallows with a chestnut roasting party. I felt safe and comfortable as if all worried disappeared. I rubbed my eyes sleepily praying for a warm bed. Even though Alice may need a shoulder to cry on. I love you dad, and I will always try my best to make you see me again.

"Jack..." Alice's voice faded into nothingness. My mind turned to blank white canvas, trying to stop thinking of everything but that American flag kept appearing. I gave up and opened my ears.

"I'll take him to his room. Then I'll come help you with dinner!" Alice said as cheerfully as possible. My mother nodded slowly. I stumbled and tripped up to my room down the hall. Then I was put onto my bed. I sat and looked at the empty wall, waiting for myself to awaken from this nightmare.

"I need to help your mother with dinner you get some-" I pulled her close to me. I just needed little affection. I pecked her on the head and waited for a drop of joy to fill my head. She looked at me, stunned from my recent actions. Her cheeks turned bright red as if she were attacked by tomatoes.
