Chapter 1 - The Poisonous Cloud over the Clan of Mimics

'Gotta keep running' thought a boy around nine years of age as he sprinted as fast as his little legs would carry him, every now and then he would press one of his feet extra hard causing a puddle of odd liquid to appear.

This was the reason he had been able to keep the lead on his pursuers but it seemed they were getting more help as the Peace Keepers had joined in one of them appearing to possess the ability to summon forth water. This man was washing away his tricky traps allowing for the lost ground to be made up.

At this time he saw a old wall that seemed to surround an abandoned compound.

'Chance' thought the youth as he climbed the wall quickly and ran into one of the buildings.

"Where did that brat go" demanded a loud voice from over the wall.

A crash in a nearby alley seeming to have gained their attention.

"Over there" came the roar of the crowd as they carried their torches to find the poor youth.

'I did it' sighed the youth as he actually took notice of where he was, it was room full of old scrolls.

'Wow.... surprised no one's robbed this place' thought the youth, he was intelligent for his age a necessity for him to have lived this long on the street. It allowed him to figure out how to use his powers to get what he needed for survival without killing anyone, a difficult task as his unique ability didn't allow many options in the ways of how it was used.

Looking around he began to look at some of the scrolls and found fighting techniques, though they were for different elements and abilities.

'Why would a clan need so many different techniques for so many abilities' wondered the youth as he continued to look through them until he got bored and walked around a bit finding an armory as well but his joy came when he found a journal.

"Maneru" read the youth in surprise.

'So the clan of mimics.... then they should have something in here for me too' smiled the youth but he wanted to read the journal first.

He wasn't worried about being found because he had heard the Maneru was a dead clan so there shouldn't be anyone who should interrupt him.

The youth read quickly regardless though but as he moved through the pages he found himself becoming enamored by it's contents, the recounting of fierce battles and the knowledge he possessed about the use of abilities was amazing but it was the last line that struck him hard.

"Anyone can copy a technique but only a Maneru can copy an ability" read the youth, he was inspired by that line.

By this point the youth had been inside the odd library for a day and his stomach was sure to make him aware of it by releasing a terrifying roar of it's own.

'Hungry' remarked the youth mentally before he looked around not wanting to leave.

"I guess I'll use that skill" sighed the youth, he didn't have very much control over the other half of his ability yet which was the main reason he was hunted down.

Focusing the sounds of vermin of varying species could be heard closing in, revealing themselves to be summoned by the youth.

"Food" stated the youth clearly with a great bit of focus.

A particularly large rat stood on it's hind legs and saluted before squeaking in a commanding and vicious tone as if it was relaying orders before the swarm ran out.

However it was at this time that the boy heard the sound of people moving about the compound causing the youth to jump in surprise as he heard the voices.

"Sister you need to calm down, you can't train yet. You haven't even mastered your Mimic field yet" came the voice of a smaller girl.

"I have to do something otherwise those bastards from the other clans will prey on us and take more of our lands. I am the eldest so this is my duty" came the voice of another girl but she was older if her words were any indication.

"Sister, you haven't even copied an ability yet" pleaded the younger girl.

"I can still study the techniques in the Archives" stated the girl indicating her destination to be the building the youth was in.

Panicking he quickly released a torrent of Miasma that quickly filled the building causing it to drift out the doorway to deter the girl.

"W-What is this" demanded the girl in shock before she began to get angry.

"Whoever is in there, you are trespassing in the Maneru Clan's estate" started the girl until a flood of pests swarmed into the miasma apparently immune to it's effects.

"Sister, it could just be an animal. This is an omen that you shouldn't try training yet" called the younger of the two women.

The older of the girls looked up and cursed the heavens for stopping her, she couldn't help but believe it to be an omen as well. She had never tried to enter the Archives until this day, the day that this miasma had appeared.

"Please, I need this" begged the girl looking to the skies hoping to find some sort of change in the Archives but finding none she could only turn around with a heavy heart.

Inside the youth couldn't help but feel a bit guilty but he was sure that if he revealed himself now then he would be reported to the Peace Keepers.

He chose to distract himself from the Girl's plight and opted for the bounty his pets had brought for him, they were indeed quick and they had collected efficiently.

"Good job Kamu" smiled the Youth looking at the large rat.

Kamu squeaked with pride at the praise.

The youth dismissed the swarm and filled his belly before he began reading through the techniques inside and training, they may not have noted any ability like his but the words in the journal had inspired.

'Anyone can copy a Technique but only the Maneru can copy an Ability' thought the youth as he began trying to piece together the way to flow his ability to mimic the technique.

Luckily the Maneru's Mimic Field was able to detail the way to channel an ability through a technique along side the Ability allowing the youth to have an easier time adjusting it to his toxic ability.

'I will become strong, whether the world wants me to or not' thought the youth with determination and thus began his path to power..
