Chapter 3 - The New Lord of Maneru

Yuki was brought from her pause when Kari tugged her sleeve, turning around Yuki saw that she was marveling at the dress that she had been given.

"Sister, its so fine." stated the girl rubbing the soft fabric.

Yuki then took the time to inspect her own and found it to also be made from fine material, she was a bit reluctant but eventually the two girls went to change.

Outside the youth had finished placing the items from the cart where they belonged, his knowledge of the compound coming from other assorted documents he had found inside the archives over the years. In these books it dictated etiquette among other things such as the Clan's compound structure and blueprint, he had studied well during his time dwelling in the Archives.

He walked to the room that was reserved for the Lord of the house and began setting inside things that he had gotten for himself before changing into his own casual wear the Gunbai kept strapped to his back. After this he traveled to the main room where meetings and meals would be held and waited, he continued to wait until the smell of food began to waft into the air bringing a smile to his face.

Yuki and Kari walked in though the older sister seemed to have a scowl on her face as they placed the food upon the table, the youth looked at the prepared meal and felt a bit disappointed.

"Steamed buns... I brought so many wonderful things and this is what has been prepared" muttered the youth though in the silence of the room it was heard clearly causing Yuki to glare.

"If you don't like then don't eat, you should be grateful we are cooking for you to begin with" huffed the girl as she took a vicious bite of the steamed buns.

"I really like steamed buns" said Kari softly looking down as if she had done wrong.

"Then enjoy" stated the youth, he felt a little guilt seeing the girl say such a thing so sadly.

Kari seemed to perk up at that and ate quietly as the youth experimentally tried one of the steamed buns, he had expected much better but it seemed these two girls had lived a different life compared to what had been described in the Maneru Founder's journal.

The youth then raised his cup expecting one of the two to fill the cup but found them looking at him oddly.

"Pour my tea" stated the youth explaining his intent behind the action.

"Pour your own tea creep" stated Yuki but Kari on the other hand followed through on the action which pleased the youth.

"Excellent, at least one of you has a bright future" chuckled the youth as he sipped the tea and continued eating.

Kari smiled at the compliment and munched on her food happily while Yuki was glaring at the youth, it was an awkward meal but the youth didn't see it as such.

"Thank you for helping us" said Kari suddenly causing the youth to pause.

"Think nothing of it, those who wish to walk over my Maneru clan will understand we are not to be trifled with" stated the youth causing Kari to smile and feel that the youth wasn't so bad.

"What do you mean your Maneru clan, I will not marry such a swine" stated Yuki with a serious gaze.

The youth suddenly changed his gaze as he looked towards Yuki causing the girl to tremble.

"It would be wise to understand your place in this household, I will not have you losing face for my Maneru" grunted the youth as he finished his meal and stepped outside to look at the yard while sipping his tea.

Kari sat at the table looking at Yuki with mixed feelings at the moment but didn't say anything as she walked over and poured more tea for the youth before returning to her own meal.

The youth did not speak as he stared over the dessert like yard, rocks and weeds overgrown and the trees long since dead. Even the pond at the side had gone dry, it was a depressing sight but he stared over it like it was a beautiful calming landscape as he sipped tea silently.

Eventually he finished his viewing of the nonexistent garden and returned to the Lord's Chambers where he laid his down to rest.

While he did this the two sisters were talking.

"Yuki, you shouldn't be so rude. We would have been taken by the Taiyo if he hadn't been here... and look at what he has done for us in a single day. You won't have to marry if he stays and the Clan might rise again in the future, you saw how strong he was. He defeated five of the Taiyo guards alone and so swiftly, this could be an answer to our prayers" stated Kari while she and her sister bathed.

"Kari your young so you shouldn't speak of such things, besides how can we trust some stranger that just appeared out of nowhere. I am certain that he has ulterior motives for his kindness" responded Yuki as she poured water over her back rinsing herself before placing her new night clothes over her body.

"Yet you still wear something he has brought for you so shamelessly" muttered Kari causing Yuki to glare.

The two fell asleep shortly after their conversation unconcerned for the next day's happenings, this would be the most peaceful sleep the two had since the death of the Old Lord.

Early the next morning Kari could be seen preparing a real meal and she was surprised to see the youth already waiting inside the main room waiting.

"Good morning..." started Kari but she realized that she didn't know the youth's name.

"Good Morning, I see you have prepared a fine breakfast." stated the youth with a tone of approval.

Kari smiled but still found the need to ask for a name.

"It is rude of me for not asking sooner but what do we call you" asked Kari as she placed the food and poured the youth some tea.

"You may call me Lord" answered the youth before sipping his tea, his garments looked as if he was going to attend business that day which was odd to Kari as she wondered what it could be.

"Lord... may I ask why you are dressed as such" asked Kari as Yuki walked in.

"I am going to be collecting the taxes from those in the Territory of Maneru today" answered the Youth as Yuki did a double take upon hearing the words, the Maneru hadn't been able to successfully collect taxes since their fall which had contributed to their downward spiral.

"Ha, good luck" stated Yuki looking forward to the youth's failure.

After finishing the meal he set forth.
