Chapter 1 - Chapter One Death and Returning Home

The sounds of war and the smell of death grows over time as I waited for the dust to settle. There was almost no one left on the battlefield as blood flowed from my blade and onto the ground. Demons of the Sloth region lay there on the ground as some begged for the pain to end. This was not hell, but a layer above where demons live in war and greed. Some of us fought for freedom as others gained from money. I was lucky to be alive at this moment as cuts ran across my body as this war was what my father ordered me to do. Our men were trained to kill without mercy as it gains more honor for our greed. My home was the region of Greed as we were raised to kill for the glory of money and power. There was nothing else in life that I knew besides fighting and killing.
"General Amare," one of my men called out to me.
"You may speak," I sighed as I knew it was a letter from my father. He was going to order me to take another city or finally return home. My coming of age was here and there was nothing more than wanting a short break from slaughtering the innocent demons. There was a fear as well if I were to disobey an order as it ended with slashes over the body. The male demon stood there in fear as he knew I could lash out if the letter ended in another war. The letter in his hand held my family crest of a golden swirl with four dragon claws in each corner as it was branded on each of us. Mine was my side since I was about eight or nine years old. When I open the letter the feeling of freedom came as me and my men would get to return home for a year of rest.
"Looks like we are heading home," I replied as I have seen my men lighten up for the first time in years. There was finally a break from the bloodshed and terror we have caused, but something did not settle with me at this moment. My father had another plan coming into his mind as my age would be set for marriage to another region. I did not want this to be my life as I wanted to finally be free from the Forbidden Plains and into a new world. If the Angels did not lock my kind away it might have been an option to leave, but they are not forgiving to our lives.
Angels were depicted as beautiful and great fighters that ruled the High Heavens for years. This was twenty years ago, and it has been passed to me as a history of demons and our hatred toward angels. To me, they were worst than Region of Wrath as they killed anyone without a thought of who they are. Angels only won with the help of Humans and Monsters in the lands above us. It was a surprise that humans worked with monsters as they murdered each other daily. In the end, the war was on their side as I did not know what the cause of this war was as it was never in the history books. Father barely let me know what happened as other regions seemed to blame him. He was a cruel ruler and never cared about our people's needs as they are below him.
There have been times I thought of murdering him in his sleep or leaving for another region. I knew it would never happen as I was feared by my people as well. If I was called for killing a traitor and his family, then I do what I am told. I felt like my emotions were caged up as I wished for death to happen over and over. Demons were nothing more than humans with horns, tails, and abilities with magic. To us, we were nothing as Angels took the light as we were seen as devils of hell. Devils would kill anyone as it was in their blood. Demons have the same emotions as humans but live longer for thousands of years.
I remember wanting to learn to fight with swords and shields as it was something I wanted to learn. Then my father took it as a plan to turn me into his fighter, a monster that fights for her master. All I wished is for a better life as death happens in every corner as love did not exist. I knew heading home would be tricky as there was nothing more to be free there. Coming to age was death without passing away as I would lose a chance to run away.
"We head for home in an hour," I spoke to my men as I walked towards the direction of home, "Visit with your family and rest peacefully for a while."
It was finally time to return home and see my cruel father once again.
