Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 A Home Near Town

The feeling of light hit my skin as bird chirped around me. My eyes hurt as I opened to see a wooden frame of a roof. There were some hole, but looked like it could fall apart any day. The sounds of Lilium and Rosa lightly sleep in there bedroll was a calming sight. There was old broken bed frames and a table with four chairs laid across the floor. The Grimwalker stomped as he ate the grass outside. I wonder where we were and if it was safe to be here. I looked outside to see a path leading to a cobblestone road.

"Guess I'm catching breakfast," I sighed as went outside. The sky was beautiful and clouds fluffy like spider silk. My sword was not on my hip, but I had a knife in my boot. I walked into the forest to see if there was a river or any form of water nearby. A couple of fish, herbs, and some eggs sounded like a healthy breakfast. I know that some of the herbs here would be different than the Forbidden Plains.

"Where is the river?" I questioned myself, but soon smelled an earthy mist. The sounds of running water felt calming as I looked into the water to see the fish. Many fish both big and small swam up the river. Another smell caught my attention, it was sweet, but yet strong. I soon walked over to see both sorrel and wild garlic near each other. Not far there seemed to have a couple of morel mushrooms. All I needed was some fish and everything would be set for breakfast. I soon collect the herbs and mushrooms and placed them by the water bed. I held the knife while standing in the water.

Standing there was slow as I watch the fish get used to me being in the watch. I soon saw a large trout beneath my feet. The closer it got, the soon I stab my knife into its side. It struggled as lift it out of the water. It was big enough for all three of us to have a bit. I soon gutted and cleaned the fish, mushrooms, and herbs before heading back.

The birds rang as I gotten ready to leave the river. Something was off as I ran into the forest and looked up into the sky. A pair of large feather wings and a yellow glow made me froze. An angel, a creature that locked demons into the Forbidden Plains after the war. Another one soon joined as they looked around the area. Both of them were men, but the first one caught my eye. His short brown hair and covered in a silver armor almost made me left my hiding spot. The other angel had long blonde hair and a golden armor.

I soon left as I made it back towards the old abandoned cabin as I finally started to cook breakfast. Both Lilium and Rosa were still sleep, but I don't know how long they stayed up to get us here. I was lucky that there was a well outside and a couple of wooden bowls. I washed them and got water for cooking. I removed the skin and bones from the fish as chunks filled an old cauldron. I sliced and chopped everything as I let it boil till all the meat was fully cooked.

"Food..." Rosa spoke as she sat down in a chair. I gave her a bowel and made two more before resting. Lilium slowly gotten up with her hair messy as she grabbed the bowel and drank what was left. I soon wonder about what those angel's were after in the middle of the woods. I realized that the road nearby would lead to a town at some point, but we couldn't go till our features were hidden. Soon Lilium gotten up and started to work on cleaning and working on the house. I was surprised that there was a broom, cloth, and bucket near the door we came from.

"We'll need lumber and thatch to fix the house," Lilium spoke, "and glass if the town has it."

"What about our appearances," I questioned, "We look like a couple of demons from hell to both monsters and humans."

"Wear the cloaks from before," she replied, "I'll add a cloaking spell before you and Rosa leave. Don't forget about a horse and cart as well. The Grimwalker will scare people if they see it."

"Do we have to sis," Rosa complained, "If angel's are there they will know that something is up with us."

"Just stay away if you can," she replied as our cloaks were thrown at our faces. We soon walk down the road with our packs with gold and weapons. Rosa looked like she didn't want to be here, but continued as she didn't want to hear it from Lilium. The sounds soon changed as the road changed from dirt to cobblestone. It looked liked a main road, but we didn't know to were as we walked down it. The sounds of people laughing in the distance made it easier to tell how far long we went. It was only an hour by foot till we reached a town. We didn't know the name or if the people will trust strangers to sell their items.

The town was large and fill with life as children ran up and down the road. It didn't take long for Rosa to leave my side and head towards the tavern. I knew she was a party girl before, but now was not the time. Her pink hair peaked out as she talk to both men and woman around her. I soon decided to go to a stable to buy a pair of horses and cart before getting supplies. A older man sat up front fixing horseshoes as a boy feed the horses.

"Can I buy a cart and horse here?" I asked as the man looked up at me.

" Yeah," he spoke as he spits on the ground, "that would cost you twenty silver for the cart and two gold for the horses."

"Thanks," I replied as I placed three gold coins in the mans hand. "Do you know where I can find a carpenter and a blacksmith around here?"

"Down the road and to the left," he spoke, " the boy here will bring it over in an hour at the carpenter."

"Thanks." I replied as I walked down the road as felt like I was being watched from afar. I soon stopped at the black smith for nails and a hammer, before walking to the carpenter for lumber and thatch. The feeling didn't go away as I turn towards an alleyway. I was soon grabbed and thrown to the wall. Pain rang throughout my back and head as I looked up to see a hooded man. I soon stood up as I grabbed and threw the man acrossed the road. I made sure my hood was up before stand above the man as people watched in fear.

"A common thief," I said with a low growl, "planing to steal my coin pouch after the stables."

"Sorry..." The man spoke in fear, "I won't bother you again or anyone again."

" You better," I replied as I walked down the road and towards the carpenter's workshop. The boy from the stables was brushing the horses as he waited for my arrival. He was shy, but seemed like a sweet boy.

"Hello..." he said shy but sweet voice, " I watch your cart for you "

" Thank you," I replied as I handed a gold coin to him. "This for the hard work you did."

"Thank you!" He said with a smile as he ran back home. I stood in front of the carpenter's shop as I saw stacks of lumber and logs near a water mill. The store seem lively as men ran back and forth working on the mill. An older lady stood there watching me as I walked over to see about the price of lumber and thatch. She smiled as she removed the pipe out of her mouth.

" Hello, young lady," she smiled, " what can I do for you today?"

" I need to buy lumber and thatch for a house outside of town." I answered.

"Do you have a deed for this house." She replied. "The only one I know is the old hunter's shack outside of town."

" No," I replied, "but me and my friends would like to buy it and fix it up."

" Lucky for you," she replied, " I'm heading to the guild house. You'll need to pay for the land and then I'll let you buy the lumber."

"Yes ma'am," I answered as I fellowed her down the road and towards the place what I thought was a tavern. People laughed as I saw Rosa on the table with two me telling her stories. She was enjoying it, till she saw me walking up the stairs. The old lady took me to the guild master as he had a big smile on his face.

" Hey there Granny," he laughed, "how's the lumber yard doing?"

"Do fine Henry," she replied, "but this young lady here is buying the old Hunter's hut outside of town."

" Really now," he replied, "I'm guessing she doesn't have a guild card either if you came with her."

"I see a good costumer," Ganny laughed, "plus that place been abandon for years after old Kim died."

"True," he answered, "So let get your guild card done and then start the paperwork."

"Yes sir," I replied as I never thought that we would been caught so soon.

" It simple as all you need is your blood, name, and class. Everyone get there first card free." He answered as I placed my finger on the tablet and wrote down my name and class. "Never thought a sword women would come around these parts. Most swords men or woman go to the capitol. But now we start working on the deed."

"How much does the land cost?" I asked.

" Since no one lived on it for years the price went down." He said while looking at the paperwork. "It hundred gold for the land plus a tax of twenty five silver."

"That's all?" I replied as I placed hundred and one gold coins on the table, "I thought it would be more."

"If I were you..." He spoke, "Amare. I wouldn't have some much gold on hand. Thieves like to pickpocket young ladies like yourself."

"So like the common thief I threw across the road?" I said under my breath.

" So you did that," he replied, " well the guild needs hunter's like yourself. You can sign up and start working as soon as you want."

" Sure," I replied, " The work will be nice."

"Then I'll place seal on your card as a hunter from today." He replied, " you can start as soon as house repairs are done."

"Thank you." I answered as I grabbed my card and deed from the table.

" And Amare," he called, " I know a demon when I see one."

" How did you know?" I questioned.

"Some of your kind works around town," he replied, "but we don't say anything to the angelic order. The war is over and to me that it that "

" Yes sir," I replied as I walked with Granny down the stairs. I didn't realize that their were women in bright dresses with their chests almost falling out. They seemed upset as I say Rosa sat on a man's lap with a big smile. She was enjoying her freedom, but soon she was grabbed by the hair and out the door with an older women. Most of the women followed as they dragged her to a brothel. Women watched as they caught their new pray as I walked down the road.

"Granny," I replied, " is it okay if I pay you for the lumber and thatch now and come get it."

" Of course," she answered, "I seen that your pink hair friend got in trouble."

"Yes," I said as I gave you a small bag of gold and ran towards the brothel. The sounds of music and smell of alcohol filled the air. Rosa was sat in a chair as the old woman talked to her in a cold voice. She knew that she was demon by how men flock to her like fire to oil. She wanted her to work for her.

"Rosa!" I called, " we are about to leave!"

"Yep," Rosa replied, "we got a house to fix."

" Oh no you don't," the old lady yelled, "I'm offering you a job."

" But I have to get back," Rosa replied, "I would only work if I'm paid the right price. Plus I want plenty of fun out of it."

"You'll be payed twenty gold a day," she spoke, but the sounds of the other ladies argued as it was higher than theirs alone. I was ready to leave as I watched her smile as she waved me to go on a head.

"I'm going to work and meet you at home," she replied.

" Okay." I said as watched her rip her cloak off. Her horns and tail moved as she walked towards one of the cortisones and kissed her. She was in her place as I left. I know that demons are not accepted in all towns now, but how were they getting out. I soon return for the cart as lumber and thatch were loaded on the back. I soon said my goodbyes as I road off to the house. The road was shorter than before, but I saw Lilium dragging buckets of water from the river. She smiled, but it soon dropped as Rosa was not with me.

"She found a whore house did she." Lilium spoke.

"Seemed so." I replied back.

"She left all the work to us to have fun," she screamed, "why weren't you wearing you cloak. God do not tell me we are hunted already."

"Everything fine," I replied, " seems like we are not the only demon around."

"So we don't have to hide," she asked

"Not in this town, but others are not the same." I smiled as I hopped off the cart, "let start working before night time."

"Sure thing," she replied.
