The heir of JK Corporation sat behind a black marble desk that exuded a glass feel and spanned over a large part of the wide and airy office on the fifth floor. The piece of office furniture looked, however, like it could belong in a modern art exhibition and not an office.
With legs crossed, his chin resting in his left palm and chair turned to face the floor to ceiling windows, he wore a bored and distant expression.
Jason Kaid had been in city Y for five days now and had taken up the job of finding out why this branch of all the company's existing branches had been performing poorly despite being located in the most advantageous city ever.
This wasn't at all his preferred area of expertise but the truth was that going against his father had its consequences. Sending his son to cover a mere managerial role was one of the old man's many disciplinary measures.
Jason smiled to himself. It wasn't the fist time he'd been assigned a lesser role, than he was entitled to. In fact this one was one of the less drastic measures taken by his father. Jason didn't like to think of himself as a rebel he just didn't like being told how to think.
Opening the file in front of him for what seemed like the hundredth time, he tried and failed miserably to absorb it's contents. Such a task would have been a walkover for him had his mind not been filled with the most 'random' thoughts that had ever come to him.
He had rubbed it off and concluded that it was jet lag and the long hours in this prison that had made such unnecessary thoughts creep in. After all an office, no matter how luxurious it was, still qualified as a prison eventually with long hours of nothing but unprogressive work.
Looking across from where he sat at his assistant, however, one would rethink this concept. For almost five days straight, Natalie had been going through records of past work done and was proving even more effective than he was. She even managed to be organised and collected through it all. Jason did think of the possibility that she was a robot. How could he not she was the most effective assistant and had made his work much easier all the time. That didn't mean that he should over work her.
"That's enough for today Natalie. You should go home and take a rest now." Jason said
Natalie who sat on a lounging chair on the other side of the room with open files and papers all piled up in 'read' and 'yet to be read ' (as compared to his messy desk), looked up and her beautiful face drew into a slight frown.
" There is still much work to be done. Are you sure you want to stop now?" She asked. She was one of the few people to ever question his decisions aside from his mother and his father of course.
" Are you sure you want my mind to go into an override?" A smile played on the corner of his lips as he said so, to this she sighed and put all the papers aside.
" Why haven't you told Mr Clocksworth about your arrival? He has been expecting you this whole week. I understand you like to work from a distance but don't you think that it would be better to not do so this time?" She said this as she gathered her things into her bag and unhung her coat from the wall in readiness to leave.
"I would like some time to get things in order before I make my arrival known to anyone in the city." He stood from his chair and walked over to the windows. Hands in his pockets, sleeves rolled up, his dishevelled medium length chestnut hair dropped lazily over his face and added to make his already handsome features stand out.
" I never understand you Kaid's." She said with a smile.
" Humph you say it like it's a bad thing." Jason replied looking over his shoulder at her with a smile that didn't exactly touch his eyes. " You should really get home now."
As soon as she had walked out of the room, Jason's eyes wandered back outside. He had been feeling weird of late.
He lifted his wrist to check the time. A few minutes passed nine in the evening. Having resolved that it wasn't too late He took his phone out of his pocket and made a call. The phone rang twice before it was picked up by a woman.
"Well look who it is. You finally called to tell your here huh? If I didn't know better I would think you actually care about me. Okay tell me what you need?"
Jason smiled to himself. " Ten pm the usually place."
The woman seemed to think for a while before replying.
" How about this time I come pick you up? What do you say?" Her voice was soft spoken and sweet.
" Whatever you say Ammy"
After making the pick up arrangements he hung up and picked his jacket and coat paired off with a scarf, as it was cold and walked out.
Jason walked outside and stood near a pillar that supported the roof above him on the stairs outside the JK branch in city Y. He looked every bit the ordinary citizen if not for the designer brand clothing and his devilishly too good to be true looks that set him apart from the rest. All of JK's employees had gotten off from work and so there was no one other than the security guard to see him leave
He stood with his phone in his hands randomly keeping himself occupied when his eyes caught sight of a woman who had walked out of the building some time before he did. It looked as though she had been waiting a while now. Normally he wouldn't bother but something about her troubled face made him drawn to her, he almost walked over to ask if everything was alright.
Her dark long midnight hair falling to her waist, flawless, radiant skin, full pink lips, and bright yet dark eyes that shown in the dark. All of it pulled him towards her. The woman's face fell in disappointed when she checked her phone.
She began to walk away from the main entrance and just then Jason felt his own two feet unconsciously begin to follow her, in that moment all his thoughts were occupied by the π½β―π. He took his time patiently strolling behind her content with just watching her from a distance.
