Amy stared at Jason in the review mirror as he sat in the back of the car with the woman curled in his lap. His gaze on her to many people who didn't know him would be plain and unattached, but Amy could tell having known him for most of her life that he was captivated by this woman.
It never occurred to her that someone especially a woman could command this degree of attention from him and to think she wasn't even trying.
Amy chose to drive to the nearest hospital seeing as to how when she asked him where they would be taking the woman he sounded lost as though he wasn't thinking beyond the time he was in.
Upon their arrival a team of ER attendants rushed with a stretcher to receive the patient. Jason lay her on it having carried her out if the car. Amy was holding the bag that contained the woman's possessions. For a while Amy and Jason stood in the busy area of the ER staring at the retreating stretcher it wasn't until a nurse approached asking them to fill in a few forms for the admission of the patient that both of them snapped out of it and we're faced with the question of what details they would fill in because they had no idea who she was.
Jason was half thinking as he spoke his eyes still glued to the aisle that the woman had been taken down. "Uhhhh we only just found her in a bad state and decided to bring her here, we don't really know her name or-"
There was shuffling next to him before he was cut off by Amy.
" Her name is Amanda Walsh and she lives at 998 hallway street." She said.
The nurse nodded understanding the situation and decided to use the few details offered to find out who the woman's emergency contact would be.
Jason slowly turned his head towards Amy, a questioning look on his face. He was met by a company ID card that Amy gladly waved in his face.
"I found this in her bag," she said as she raised the hand bag she had carried from the car and had been holding all along. " We could ask her supervisor for more details to fill her hospital forms and-" it was Amy's turn to be cut off now.
" Never mind I am sure her emergency contact will handle the rest." He spoke calmly almost bored, but Amy wasn't fooled. He turned to face her fully now with his hands lazily tucked into his trouser pockets. " It's getting late you should get home," before she could even protest he had gently retrieved Amanda's bag from Amy and given it to the nurse at the counter to give to whoever would came to collect it and was now guiding Amy out of the hospital with his hand resting on her shoulder. It was an easy but strong grip not meant to hurt her but surely enough to say that the topic wasn't up for discussion. She walked to her car a little less elegantly under his firm grip and when she found the confidence to speak up he had opened her driver's seat and tucked her in .
"How are you going to get home huh? It thought I was the one dropping you off." She said a little difiantly.
"I'll catch a cab just get home on time and text me when you do,," he closed the door but not before strapping her seatbelt across her and waved at her with a smile. Amy wore a frown on her face but did as he had asked of her.
As soon as Amy was out of site Jason walked back I to the hospital to the nurse's counter and spoke to the woman he had given the bag to, a few minutes later he also left taking a taxi home.
The whole way home there was a nagging feeling his stomach the same one he felt on the way here with Amy and the very same one that had driven him to follow this woman to begin with. The problem was he couldn't place his finger on it all he knew is that it wasn't new.
.....
Amy drove off with a weird feeling in her chest. Jason and her had had many memorable moments together and she had looked forward to his coming back to the country for a log time. She had also anticipated that he would contact her first above all others to tell of his return but he didn't she had to find out from someone else, paparazzi for that matter. She knew that she felt something more than friendship for him she only became more aware of It when he left to go abroad for a while under his father's request. She also knew that he was oblivious to how she felt about him and that there was a chance that if he knew he might not reciprocate her love.
So she decided to slowly get closer to him and wait for the fates time to tell him how she truly felt. For now she was happy with just his company, no- she was content with just his company, now she felt she need to rush before she lost this race.
In all the years she had know him and loved him Amy had never seen Jason so taken by any woman. Let alone someone who dressed and looked as plain and Amanda Walsh. It scared her, the thought of losing her love, her one and only love to someone who came out of nowhere.
Amy looked at herself In her review mirror as she drove down a highway. She was beauiful and in every respect a decent woman, that woman had nothing on her. At that moment Amy noticed the red light come-on and she pulled out of her thoughts just in the to step on her breaks. The tires of her car came to a sudden halt causing her to move forward in her seat were it not for her seatbelt.
Amy ignored the angry pedestrians and driver's horns around her, that was the first time that she had ever lost concentration while driving. She started to rethink her earlier assumptions, was this woman a threat?
