"Heline, get up or God help me I'm breaking this door," my mom's shrill voice breaks through my deep slumber. she was mercilessly pounding my door, "your school bus will be here in 30 minutes and you are still snoring through your butt. Get your ass up!"
I scampered from my bed as i checked the nearby alarm clock. my heart pounded as i realize the truth behind mom's morning chant. After taking a quick shower, i change into the nearest shirt and pants that i could reach and without checking my reflection from the mirror, zoomed downstair for a quick breakfast.
Mom was making sandwiches for my younger brother, Shaun, who is a 5th grader at Santa Maria Primary School. she glared at me as she motioned me to a nearby seat at the table. "You can't be always be late at the university. it will be an ugly mark on your records."
I sighed. "Mom, its just the first day."
She scoffed as she brushed off some crumbs from the table. "First impression is very important. you must take care of your scholarship at this university. we can never have the same opportunity."
After graduating from senior high, i earned a full academic scholarship at Belladine University which is the most prestigious university in the region. Mom raised us single-handedly by doing two or more jobs. Dad died when Shaun was a month old from an illness leaving mom with nothing. She earning just enough for us to get through the day but she knew that she won't be able to afford to sent us to good universities. The scholarship was a goldmine to her as I am ensured of free schooling until i finish college.
Mom peeped through the windowsill and shooed me off to the door as she sighted the nearing bus. "Go. Now."
"What about Shaun?" The previous school years, i dropped off Shaun to his school before i go to mine.
"I'm dropping off Shaun from now on. You focus on not being late."
I looked at Shaun as he simply shrugged and proceeded eating. Taking a deep breath, i walked towards the waiting bus.
The bus was barely occupied with only five students. A young man gazed up at me as i boarded from a book he is reading. He gave me a quiant smile and read back on. I seated myself at the nearest unoccupied seat and looked out the window as the bus started back on.
The bus came to a sudden stop and my head hit the edge of the bus window. I fell asleep halfway through the ride. I rubbed my forehead as i heaved my backpack up.
"You should probably wipe that drooling off you face before you go down," a heavy voice said behind me making me jump.
I turned and faced the most handsome man I've ever seen with dark long hair and teasing eyes. He was wearing a dark brown leather jacket with white shirt underneath. I was mesmerized. He then handed me a handkerchief and laughingly said, "You can borrow this and wipe those when you're done drooling of me." Then it hit me. His gorgeous smile was not indeeded to captivate me. He is mocking. I could felt hot blood crawling through my face as he gave me a salute and walk away. My hand trembled as I clench the handkerchief in my hand. The nerve of that guy.
"Dont mind him. He just teasing." a gentle voice said as he pass by me. It was the guy who earlier gave me a smile. He looked back and nod. I nodded back and he exited the bus. I then followed out.
