Mallory's Point of View
I managed to use my telekinesis ability to put his unconscious body and mind on his cot, and he was sound asleep. I looked at his smooth face, his straight nose, then down to his plump chest and broad stomach, but what enticed me the most was his alluring fair neck. I shook my head to stop myself.
I couldn't reach Steve because of the distance, so I had to stay in this guy's house until morning. I can't leave him like this. I have a responsibility to explain things to him because I don't want to ruin someone's life due to my negligence.
"Lori..."
I turned to the door when I heard Steve's voice in my mind. I knew he was outside the house where I was hiding. My face brightened up when I confirmed that it was him.
"Steve?" I asked.
I felt his disappointed presence outside.
"Come out of your hiding place," he gently ordered, which calmed me down and made me nod.
I took the key from the man and quickly opened the door. I saw Steve outside, looking at me with disappointment. He winced disappointingly.
"Steve!" I exclaimed and rushed towards him. "How did you know I was here?" I asked excitedly with a smile.
His face is distorted. He's not happy with what I did, and I know that. "I've killed those High-Ranking ordinary vampires just to know where you are. My feet brought me here," he said in a dismayed voice, so I quickly approached him.
"I am sorry..."
He gasped. "I'm sorry, Lori, but I have to let you stay here. I can't bring you inside the Coven because the other Elders found out what you did in the sanctuary," Steve said sadly while both his hands were in front of him.
I looked at him in shock. I wanted to speak and convince him to take me and keep me safe, but I didn't do it because that's what he wanted. Didn't he even try to find out how this all started? Why am I hiding now?
"I have to protect you, Lori..." he said sadly, "and this is the only way I can do it. Stay here and live like those who are here," he added, and I nodded even though it hurt.
"I understood," I replied softly with both my shoulders drooping.
I don't want to be far from Steve because he's the only family I have left. Steve approached me and tapped my shoulder softly.
Eventually, he smiled. "Don't worry because I will ensure your safety here, including the young man inside this sacred house," he said. "And I know what happened in the sanctuary. Don't worry because I will clear your name in the palace," Steve added, making me smile.
"Thank you, Steve..." I said and hugged him immediately.
"Don't thank me. I'm doing this because it's my responsibility to you as your guardian and teacher," he said with a smile. "Go now. I need to go back to the coven because I have to fix the mess you made," he added and left me speechless. He hasn't changed, he's still the same.
I saw the dawn, so I quickly went inside the house. The sunlight at this time is a curse for us vampires. If a vampire is not strong enough, it will consume all of its life force until it dies, so if possible, I need to avoid these times.
When I got inside, he was still there, sleeping soundly. His physical features couldn't be denied. Yes, he's handsome, and I don't deny that.
I quickly went to the corner near the thick curtain that covered the window. It's bright now, and I can feel sleepiness creeping into my consciousness. In no time, I saw his eyes open. I leaned against the wall, arms crossed, and looked at him.
"Ahhhhh!" he screamed loudly, startled.
He quickly sat up when he saw me in the corner. I grinned while watching him.
"Welcome back..." I said absentmindedly.
"W-why are you still here? Am I still alive?" he asked anxiously, checking his neck for any mark I might have left. This made me grin even more.
"Your blood is delicious..." I said, grinning and then laughing deviously. His expression quickly changed.
"Ahhhhhhh!" he screamed again and quickly retreated to the corner of his bed. "Get out of here!" he shouted, but when I heard knocking on his door, my attention shifted there.
Someone else was there, and I couldn't feel his presence. I don't know what kind of creature he is. These kinds of presences are unique because they are beings with a high level of power like me. The man and I looked at each other.
"Why are you looking at me?" he shouted at me, hugging himself.
"What's your name?" I asked out of the blue, frowning. I deliberately didn't answer his question because it was pointless.
I saw how his mood changed. He swallowed in fear and stuttered, "W-why are you asking?"
I rolled my eyes and smirked. "Is it not obvious? Would I ask if I already knew?" I answered irritably while still crossed my arms.
"Who told you to come to my house?" he shouted again, getting annoyed. I'm really getting irritated with his loud voice. Tsk! Is he even a man? Should I just eat him? I thought, and it made me cringe.
"You have so many questions! Just accept that from now on, you'll be staying here in my house. And that's final!" I decided and glared at him, which made his small, slit eyes widen.
I heard his exclaim in disbelief in his mind as he angrily bit his lip and glared at me. "What?! What right do you have to lead me in making decisions inside my own home? Damn it! I know what you did was trespassing and I'm not stupid enough to let you make a decision!"
His loud shouts echoed throughout the room as she lay on her bed, her eyes fixed on me. I didn't feel scared at all, so I just grinned and chuckled softly.
"I can do whatever I want to do..."
I raised an eyebrow and walked towards his bed, causing him to squeeze himself even tighter into the corner of his bed. It only made me want to stay there even more.
"That means if I want to suck all your blood, I can..." I added with a menacing tone, showing off my sharp fangs. "...but since I'm a kind vampire, I'll let you live," I continued, distancing myself from him as he trembled in fear. I could feel his anger and frustration towards himself. I could see his body shaking.
"I won't harm you. I'm not like the others. All I want is to stay in your house until Steve clears my name in the Coven," I said softly, but I was sure he was listening.
For the next hour or so, I simply told him what had happened, and he probably understood my stories. I didn't lie because I had nothing to gain from him. He was mortal, and vampires didn't see mortals as having any value in the world. I wasn't even sure if they were really worthless. I couldn't just judge them based on their existence and their race.
For almost an hour and a half, I only heard him sigh. He raised his face and hesitantly looked in my direction.
"I-I'm Damien," he stuttered as I was surprised to hear his name. I swallowed hard, shocked, but I quickly recovered and grinned again.
"I know," I said.
I could see the surprise and amazement in his eyes as he said, "I also thought of that possibility."
He was sincere in his every word, and he was also very serious. I wasn't surprised by this type of knowledge about mortals. Who wouldn't want to study their mortal enemies?
I grinned again. "You do have lots of information about us, Damien..."
I didn't mispronounce his name, and I couldn't help but notice him swallow hard. He suddenly looked at me, his cheeks and ears turning red, while avoiding eye contact. When I realized our position, my cheeks burned with embarrassment. I quickly jumped out of bed and faced the white wall.
I cleared my throat. "S-Someone's been knocking outside since earlier," I changed the topic.
I didn't hear him speak, but he got off his bed. He put on his slippers and opened the door to leave the room.
"Wait, 'nay!" I heard him say as he unlocked the door.
The sun was shining, and I felt sleepy. I didn't know if I could trust him. I don't know if I'll wake up alive. I laughed at my own thoughts.
"Take this, son. I cooked it so you have something to eat," a woman's voice outside the house said.
She was the creature that knocked on the door, and I couldn't figure out her presence. I wanted to follow Damien outside, but I was too lazy because of the overwhelming sleepiness in my body. I fell down and sat on the cold floor.
"Thank you, 'nay," Damien said, thanking the woman.
"May I ask, hijo, do you have anyone else with you here?" the woman asked, causing me to stand up.
"A... He he! None, 'nay. Why?" Damien replied, causing me to relax.
"Because I heard some knocking here in your house last night, and I don't want any vampires to trace you. I just let it be and assumed that your lock might be broken again," the woman said. I raised an eyebrow and frowned.
She's lying! I know she knows that Damien has someone else with him here! This pretentious lady is exaggerating!
Damien laughed softly. "He-he. That's what happened, 'nay. Oh, by the way, thank you," he said, and I felt him walking towards his room.
When he came in, he stared at me sharply while furrowing his brow. "Should I have told Nanay Menchi that you were here?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I looked at him from head to toe. "Luckily, you have a brain," I said, and I fell back onto the floor, resting my arms on my knees. I put my forehead on my arms and spoke again, "Thank you, by the way..."
She calls her "nanay" and I don't want to ruin their well-established relationship. They both trust each other, despite their different races.
I didn't hear the rest of what he said because I let myself be consumed by sleep. I couldn't help but fall asleep because I was always sleep-deprived. We vampires are nocturnal, and that's part of our characteristics.
