Mallory's Point of View
I was startled by the loud laughter I heard outside the room. When I realized who it was, I quickly sat up and fixed myself. I looked up at his wall clock and saw that it was only 3:46 PM. I had only slept for a few hours, and it wasn't enough. Suddenly, I wondered why I was in his bed when I had fallen asleep in the corner. Did he carry me? My cheeks flushed with anger. Why didn't he wake me up instead?
I got up and opened the door aggressively. I was so angry that I didn't even realize he had someone with him in the living room. When I smelled what kind of person it was, my eyes widened. I was right.
"So, you are the Nanay Menchi this scumbag was telling?" I smirked as I looked at the middle-aged woman in front of me. I asked her in my mind.
I saw her fear, but it was quickly replaced by pleading in her eyes, which made me grin even more. Damien looked at me with wide eyes.
"W-wait! I thought you didn't want Nanay Menchi to know you were here?" Damien stammered.
I screamed at him in anger, "You jerk! Why didn't you wake me up? Who told you to carry me?" He should have just woken me up!
Damien quickly opened the door and motioned for me to come closer. He looked annoyed and handed me an envelope. He had taken it out of his pocket. If he weren't handsome, I would have eaten him a long time ago.
"Here. I saw a letter in my mailbox. I didn't open it because I saw your name. This letter is for you," he said.
I approached him slowly, staring straight into his dark eyes. I couldn't see or read his soul. Did this idiot have something to hide from me? Besides his calm demeanor, I felt nothing else from him. I gasped and took the envelope from his hand. Before I opened it, I glared at him fiercely. I saw him tilt his head slightly.
"Stop staring at me like that!" I yelled at him. "If you make me angry, I will suck your blood!" I shouted at him angrily, causing him to step back and put both hands on his neck as if protecting it. He seemed nervous after hearing my warning.
"Sorry..." he stammered.
I glared at him again and focused my attention back on the envelope. The seal attached to it was familiar. When I opened the letter, my eyes widened as I read its contents. I exhaled sharply. I knew Steve had done something to send me a letter from the Demon Academy. I wouldn't have received it if he hadn't done something. That old man!
I raised my eyebrows when I lowered the paper I was holding. I blew out air in frustration once again. If Steve were here, I would have pinched his balls already. He was so annoying!
"What does the letter say?" Damien asked, stuttering.
I raised my eyebrows again. "Why? Are you interested?" I asked with a smirk. I saw his mouth puff up. Was this idiot trying to be cute? Tss! Not suitable for him!
"How would I know? Maybe they're kicking you out. Ahem! You should feel it," he said, squinting his eyes.
"Why do you want to know?" I asked seriously.
"Because it might be a reinforcement, and I admit I'm scared," he replied, looking down.
He may have caught me with his honesty, but I'm not going to give up now. I stood up properly and slowly handed him the letter I was holding. He looked up at me and then at the dark, slanted eyes.
"Read it for yourself," I calmly offered him the letter.
When he took the envelope from my hand, he quickly read it. I didn't pay attention to him because I knew he didn't care. He wouldn't gain anything from it. When I turned to look outside the house, I heard him clear his throat.
"This is an invitation for you to study there," he straightforwardly uttered.
I looked at him. He was standing two feet away from me.
"Well?" I asked.
I heard him clear his throat and say, "Won't you accept this offer?"
"I don't know," I shrugged my shoulders and looked outside again.
I could sense his eagerness for me to accept the invitation. It felt like he really wanted me to take it. I don't think my intuition was deceiving me.
"You're so lucky because you won't have to wait in line to apply and study there. An opportunity is presented to you but you'll just decline it?" he said at length. My intuition was right, he really liked that offer.
I faced him with a puzzled look, "I didn't say I'm declining. What I mean is I don't know if it's the right decision to enter the academy, especially with all the chaos going on here in Vladian," I gave a long answer.
I saw him swallow. He hesitated to speak but his desire to talk won out, and I didn't shut down his opportunity to say what he wanted. He has his rights.
"Then, let me come with you..." he suddenly said as if he was waiting for this opportunity to happen.
It took ten seconds before his statement sunk in. I felt like I needed to gasp and blink. I wanted to grope - I mean, I wanted to slap myself and yell at him, "Are you insane?" But no words came out of my mouth. I composed myself instead. I took a deep breath.
"Mortals are prohibited to enter Demon Academy," I announced with my shoulders sagging while looking straight at him. "Knowing that you are a mortal, I don't see any way for you to get through," I added, and then took a deep breath.
"I heard you mention the name Steve. Who is he? Can he help me?" he asked, which surprised me.
I didn't know whether to be amazed or surprised by his knowledge of Steve's name. I was sure I didn't mention Steve's name to him, and besides, my mind is closed every time I talk to other beings. I stared at Damien because of the strange doubts that were forming in my mind, but I immediately shook my head.
I widened my eyes and asked, "How'd you know his name?"
I approached him and furrowed my brows. He swallowed hard because I was too close, but I didn't back down and didn't think about the meaning he was thinking of during that time.
His eyes darted back and forth, and with it, his swallowing. "Don't you know that you have the ability to speak inside my mind?" he asked, wondering.
"What? My mind has always been closed, especially when I talk to other beings," I replied, wrinkling my nose.
He shrugged his shoulders. "Is that more important than accompanying you inside the academy?" he asked, making me think. He was right about what he said.
I took a deep breath and then cleared my mind. How could we get into the academy without worrying about the blood that flows through Damien? I hope Steve can come later because I'm sure he knows I've received the envelope. If not, we need to go to the Coven to visit him there.
I faced him again to let him know my plan. He just stared at me, seemingly mesmerized by the beauty of my eyes. I know, right! I cleared my throat to bring him back to reality.
"You said something?" he asked, embarrassed.
"I have a plan," I started.
He just listened as I told him the steps we would take to get him into the academy. I also told him that we would visit Steve if he didn't come to me. Our real purpose was to go to the academy together to be both of our guardians.
"Less talk, less worry..." I reminded him, and he nodded. "And also, I want you to behave there. Your blood is fresh and fragrant, and other beings may cause chaos, so if possible, just stay by my side," I reminded him.
He swallowed again. I stared at his lips that were now red and then back to his dark eyes. I can't really read him. I couldn't read him like others. It seemed like there was a thick barrier in his mind, preventing me from seeing what was inside.
I disregarded my inability to read his mind and focused more on the plan to get him into the academy without any issues.
"After all, the first one who sees him will be the one who will be defeated. I will be the one to eat him - I mean, I will be the only vampire who can move - who can suck his blood. Damn!" I said to myself.
I heard him sigh softly. He was also holding back his laughter, so I immediately furrowed my brows. "Are you laughing at me?"
He stood up straight. Before he shut his mouth, he hesitantly answered, "N-nothing..."
What's important is that we get into the academy. I don't know what's in Damien's mind that makes him interested in accompanying me to the academy. I need to know his reasons why he suddenly decided to go with me. Not now, but I can earn his trust and he can tell me himself. But, we forgot about Nanay Menchi, and when I looked around, she's nowhere to be found.
