Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

Damien's Point of View

My life has been quiet for a long time until Lori arrived and destroyed my peace. I still vividly remember how we met, and it was the worst decision I ever made in my life. If I could undo the events, I would have done it a long time ago, but here I am, living under the same roof as her.

"It's just really sad."

Since I woke up earlier, I have been on high alert due to an unexplainable feeling of dread in my gut. It's telling me to be prepared. My intuition is warning me because there is something or someone outside my house. Besides the untrustworthy woman, there is someone else waiting there who could take my life.

I hear their conversations outside, and Lori's annoying voice keeps ringing in my head. I want to tell her off, but she suddenly slapped me when I turned to her direction. My heart was pounding because of what she did. Damn! This is what happens when you have a woman in the house. It's a good thing I can control myself, unlike others, and I have no bad intentions towards her. She might even provoke me to the point of losing my temper.

When she left my bed, I could only feel her movements. She went near the window, where the thick curtains covered it. I looked up at the clock by my door; it was only nine thirty in the evening.

I didn't know what she was doing there because she suddenly froze, as if her feet were glued to the spot. But I quickly realized the situation when I heard her voice asking the woman outside my house. Her ability was truly impressive. How cool.

"Lori..." I called her name, but she didn't listen or even look at me.

That's when I became curious and saw her body. Black smoke was emanating from her head and going down. I could see a bit of what was happening because of the moonlight coming from the open window beside her. The thick curtains were being blown by the gentle wind.

The voice that I heard from her was getting weaker, and I started to worry because the black smoke was becoming thicker and was covering her entire body. So I quickly got off the bed and approached her. I was afraid to touch her because of the black smoke surrounding her body.

"L-Lori!" I stuttered her name, but she still didn't respond, leaving me confused about what was happening to her. I walked back and forth because I didn't know what to do to bring her back to her senses.

I already read about this power. I may not be able to witness this power in person, but seeing it right now in front of my eyes made me conclude that this is black magic. Black magic is a broad type of magic. There are many types, and I only know a few things about it.

She started choking herself, and I stopped and took a deep breath. I approached Lori and grabbed her hand. The black smoke ran throughout my body, and everything became much clearer to me.

From the depths of her mind, I saw a small light. I managed to approach that light, but the black smoke was racing against me. It was faster than me, so it easily covered the entire light. I panicked when I couldn't see any trace of light. My heart was pounding, but I didn't give up.

I gathered all my strength and put my hand made of light on the black sphere. The ball of black energy that surrounded Lori's consciousness electrocuted me. Even though I was just a soul inside her mind, my body felt the electricity flowing through it.

I shouted as I tried to make a hole in the surface of the black sphere.

"Ahhhhhhhhh!"

Nothing happened on the second attempt. I attacked it, but it fought back, throwing me away.

"Damn it! Lori, fight back!" I screamed loudly.

"Damn it! Lori, fight back!"I screamed loudly.

This time, I saw my hand reacting to the surface of the black sphere. Soon, my bright hand had penetrated the black sphere, and I waited for her to grab my trembling hand. Giving up never crossed my mind because I knew she was inside that sphere.

Until I felt a surge of energy approaching my hand, and when it finally reached my hand, I forcibly pulled it out and we both fell to the ground. I protected her and didn't mind the pain in my back while she looked weakly at me. I also noticed the curve of her lips and her teary eyes.

"D-Damien..." she said while still on top of me.

"Thank goodness, Lori! You came back!" I happily spoke.

"Hmp..." her eyes widened.

I was surprised when she tightly hugged me and her face buried in my chest. She looked at me again, her cheeks swollen from the tears.

"T-Thank you..." she said, biting her lip to hold back her tears. "If it weren't for you, they might have taken me away," she said, trying to hold back her tears again.

I smiled broadly. "The important thing now is that you're back in your body," I said.

When she noticed our position, she felt embarrassed and offered me her hand, but I didn't accept it because it was a manly thing to do. She probably got the message.

"What are we going to do now that you have enemies outside?" I asked.

I could see her chest rise and fall. Anyone who came to where she was earlier could die. Mortals like us avoided contact with those who had those abilities because they were too dangerous.

"We should fight!" she furiously exclaimed.

I was startled by what she said. What? I'm not deaf, but it's as if I suddenly became deaf when she said that.

"W-what?" I asked for clarification.

"We'll fight them," she said without hesitation.

My eyes widened even more with fear. There were several factors why I was nervous: I didn't want to die, and I didn't know how to fight. Fuck!

"B-but... I don't know how to fight!" I said anxiously.

She immediately rolled her eyes and said, "Who told you to fight?" as a reason to embarrass me. "Don't leave me. I can't guarantee your safety because there are three of them. They're strong..." she added as a reminder, looking out the window.

"W-what about our plan to go to the academy—"

She slapped my mouth shut.

"Shut it! They can't know we're going there," she said, angry.

I immediately got the message and thought she was right. We had enemies outside, and we needed to clear the way to leave.

"So, what's the plan?" I asked.

We couldn't follow our original plan. Damn it! So many problems!

She looked at the envelope on top of my desk in the room. She pointed at it.

"Take it and hide it on your body," she said, which I quickly did by shoving it into the hidden pocket of my leather jacket. She looked at me and nodded when she saw what I did.

"We only have one way to get out of here," I said. "And that's through the main door," I added, which she agreed to.

"Then, I don't have other choice but to shut them down... to their grave..." she seriously spoke. I gulped as I understood what she needed to do. To give her confidence, I just nodded at her even though I felt it was unjust.

She looked back at me. "Not all morality needs to be fair. Every life is important to you mortals, but your values mean nothing to us. Morality varies, and we may not have any of it," she said, causing me to think. The truth is, they're vampires and not mortals, so killing others might not mean anything to them. The trial might be different as well.

I took a deep breath as I thought about it.

Before she opened the door to the room, she grabbed a small knife from behind her back. She put on her long cloak. I felt like she was a different person when she put on her cloak. Her eyes turned bright red, and her fangs grew. Her nails grew longer, and I felt the aura around her becoming thicker. She's a different creature now.
