Heading straight for my classroom, I did a double check and took a peek inside and sneakily seek out my teacher. I ducked a little and realize that she was not here yet.
Agnes blew out a sigh of relief and opened the door to take her seat. Just then a few of her classmates entered the room as well and also reached for their respective seats. Turns out, she was not yet late.
Highland Academy was a local public school, it wasn't the best and it wasn't the worst either. The reason she had to sneak around and take a peek first was because the school didn't have a bell. There weren't any bells to signal the start or the end of the class. They relied heavily onto the teacher's time. That was the first hurdle she had to overcome. On her first day, she went to class early but it turned out her teacher's time was 20 minutes in advance.
Agnes didn't realize it until the next day when she arrived earlier than 7:00 a.m., and one of her classmate was late and called out by the teacher. That person was late only for 5 minutes but the teacher already said it was already 7:25 a.m. in her watch. Most of the class was stupefied until they quickly realized the matter at hand and decides to set up the time in their phones to 20 minutes in advance. They quickly adapted and the class continued. However, there would still be students who continued to arrive late in class though, a few of them actually, including Agnes. Mostly because she couldn't sleep well at night, so the toll on her body the next morning was the worst. Truthfully, a part of her regretted that she had to leave such a good school for a crappy one, but she learned to accept facts and sacrifice a little.
When she was young, they started poor, it was through the hardwork and sacrifice of her parents that their status in life eased up a little. Little by little debts started to be paid and there was a noticeable increase in her allowance.
She knew that no matter how much her parents gave her, she cannot take advantage of it. She cannot be like those ungrateful spoiled brats. Thats why she started to appreciate little things more and learned to be thrifty.
The teacher quickly came in. She discusses her topic for today's lesson. The topic wasn't that hard so Agnes quickly took notes and listened attentively.
Agnes is still a first year college student. She decided to take up a challenging course, Chemistry.
She wasn't smart, she just liked it because her mother had a collection of chemistry books at home.
She didn't need to go to the library, she just needed to know the topic and search for it in her mother's collection.
Agnes lived by the principle of simplicity. She believes that "less is more" and that being thrifty is the way of life. She saves up everyday just to prepare for the future. Although thriftiness is a good thing, sometimes Agnes take things way too far, always wanting something cheap with quality.
Its a good thought, but not everything in life is cheap, sometimes you have to make investments, and whether these investment cost highly, as long as it pays off, then all is worth it.
However, too much is too much. Anything less is bad and anything excessive is bad. Moderation is the key to everything. Agnes tends to overthink too much and deprives herself from the pleasures in life.
Namely, she would rather choose cheap medicines than brandes ones. Agnes was repremanded that day. Talisa was fuming and quickly corrected her daughter's way of thinking. How could she let Agnes buy counterfeit medicine just to save money? Talisa quickly questioned herself just where did she go wrong for her daughter to end up this way. Being thrifty was a good thing, but anything too much would be suicidal.
Agnes was quickly corrected and from then on, she then carefully decides on her purchases wisely.
Agnes, although surrounded by her family, she still feels hollowness in her heart. She doesn't know what to do with herself. She still feels that there is something missing in her life. She cannot explain it, even with long sleepless nights just to reevaluate her decisions. She's still undecisive. Not to mention her crazy dreams continue to haunt her every night.
She quickly learns to be apathetic because mostly they just repeat over and over again. However when new weird stuff show up unexpectedly, thats when she ends up sweating at night and cringing in silence. Long nights await her from then on, however no matter how much those nightmares continue to evade her every night, she would always forget them.
Like the rainbow that appears whenever a storm passes by. Agnes thanked God for her short-term memory. As long as it was just dreams it should continue to stay that way. There's no need to put emphasis on things that are non-existent and irrational.
Going back on Agnes. Class today was long and hectic, after it ended Agnes quickly decided to go home immediately, but not before texting her parents that she didn't need to be picked up.
Satisfied with herself, she headed to this famous cafe. She heard her fellow classmates' nonstop gossip about how good their food tasted.
She was jealous, if food's the topic then she cannot be left out. She made sure to bring enough money and just have a little taste to see if all those expectations meet the reality.
