Kyra came to halt in front of an apartment building. The Sky Towers apartments are quite expensive but her brothers were not going to compromise when it came to their baby little sister.
Kaiden and Keith were twins and both of them Juniors in their college. So, most of the time what the one says, other agrees. Therefore, when Keith said, since they wouldn't be there with their baby little sister, she has to get a place with more security and comfort. And of course the college dorms were off the table because according to them, 'The guys are horny bi***s and their little bunny will not be safe with them.' And as anyone expected, Kaiden agreed. Of course he did! If this was not enough even her dear Dad pulled out his 'poor Daddy' weapon making Kyra feel guilty and finally accept. And as soon as she agreed, her Dad went to normal. So much for 'poor Daddy'!
Kyra climbed out of her Lexus and went inside the building and straight to the elevators. She waited for the doors to open when she noticed a black Rolls Royce parked in the VIP parking lot; two cars after hers. Kaiden's one the favorite SUVs. Kyra smiled mentally and reminded herself to call her brothers and Dad later before they land themselves here.
The doors of the elevators opened with a ding and Kyra stepped inside, pressing for the 8th floor. The building was well equipped with modern security equipments and best and finest in the city along with CCTV security cameras with 24 hour control room. Keith and Kaiden were not joking when they said they will be getting the best. What happened before, they didn't want to take any risks for it happen again. Elevators soon reached the 8th floor and the doors opened.
Kyra stepped out and went for her apartment door. But as she tried for the lock of the door, it didn't open. She frowned. What the hell? What is it not opening? Kyra tried again and again but the lock didn't budge. She felt like damsel in distress, as she started for the thirtieth time, a deep familiar voice called her out—
"Need any help?"
Kyra didn't turn around immediately but she was sure she didn't just dreamt about the voice of her grey eyed man. Her heart started to beat so fast, that she was sure it will come out of her chest anytime soon. She herself can hear her heart beating like crazy and thought maybe her grey eyed man can hear it too. She slowly turned around and faced the person behind her. And sure enough, it was the grey eyes in all his glory. He still looked good, his face devoid of any expressions making people think what is he thinking.
How could someone be so handsome and not getting arrested? Is it even legal? His grey eyes still cold as he stared at Kyra but she swear she saw a flicker of recognition in his eyes before it was gone. His gaze sending heat through Kyra's body.
She cleared her throat and pointed to the door lock, "My door lock isn't opening. I tried many times... but it didn't budge."
The grey eyes looked over her at door then motioned her to move a bit aside. He came closer to her and in a few mins, god knows what hell he did, but now the lock was working fine. He stepped aside and motioned for Kyra. By now, Kyra was sure that he was a man of few words. Didn't like to speak if it's not important enough.
"Thank you again...for helping me again." Kyra lifted her eyes to his. And even for a moment; she saw a flicker of emotion, but was gone as soon as it came. He turned to leave but Kyra called him even before she could think what she was doing.
"Wait...grey eyes!" She called out without thinking and her eyes went wide, realizing what did she just called him.
What has gotten into her?!
Grey eyes halted on his steps and turned to face her, he narrowed his eyes before he raising his eyebrow, his eyes already asking , 'Why did she stopped him? And what the hell did she just called him.' His eyes showed ridiculed.
"Uh sorry...do you live here?" She asked. Even if she looked composed on outside, her insides were going haywire.
Grey eyes didn't say anything for a moment, staring intently at her but then he just nodded his head. And for some unknown reason, Kyra's heart was so happy that she feared the emotion will come on to the surface.
"Oh, that means we're neighbors. I'm Kyra." Kyra put out her hand in front and offered a sweet smile giving out her dimple on her right cheek.
The grey eyes looked a little surprised before that was gone and for a long time he didn't do anything. But when Kyra thought that maybe she's just fooling herself, he let out his hand and shook her waiting hand. As soon as their hands touched, both of them felt the same spark they felt before when he held her to class.
"Nice to meet you too. I'm Xavier." His voice sending Kyra's heart to an attack, she could nothing except smiling at him like a fool. After 5 years she never thought she would be bold enough to make friends, leave alone talking to someone willingly. But here she was, she couldn't control her actions. With Xavier, she felt like she wanted to talk to him about everything and nothing.
They let each other go and suddenly everything felt so relaxed.
"Uh... actually, I need to go somewhere." Xavier pointed to the elevators.
"Yeah, of course. Sorry if I was holding you back." Kyra apologized immediately.
"No. It's ok." He nodded and turned to leave and Kyra stood there dumbfounded. She pinched herself so make sure she didn't imagine that. But sure enough, she didn't. She noticed somewhere in Xavier's eyes, there was a bit of softness in there. And that didn't go away immediately like his other expressions.
A big smile— as big as a crescent moon—appeared on her face and she couldn't control it. With a smile as big as that, she opened the door of her apartment and went inside.
And there, outside her apartment Xavier's soft gaze were on the door in which Kyra just went inside.
With a little smile.
