Chapter 36 - Chapter 36

They had learned from Gilbert that Eddie could now make a piece without having to sacrifice his spirit. In fact, at the moment, instead of tiring him up, his work could rejuvenate him. In a day, the much he could do depended greatly on his speed. For that matter, he spent the rest of the day painting, painting for the two young men. After releasing his will from the paintings, he had given them to Gilbert and George who would spend their three uses if they willed. He then left the gallery to meet Anna at paradise.

University of Noya was made of four two-hundred-meter-tall and a hundred- and fifty-meter-long skyscrapers. The skyscrapers stood in a square leaving a hundred and fifty by a hundred and fifty square meters courtyard. The courtyard was separated into four squares by two roads that crossed at its center which was a rotary with a beautiful fountain endlessly pouring water into the trough-shaped roundabout.

The four sections of the courtyard were filled with lush trees and grass for the students to catch fresh air. There were a few benches planted within, in case some wanted to rest without getting their bodies on the grass. This courtyard was like the source of life itself, the reason why the students called it Paradise.

Darkness was kicking out the light of the day to give paradise a piercing yet pleasant chill. A handful of students could be seen still lingering within the trees, probably enjoying the zephyr the Paradise brought. On one of the benches, Anna sat a little impatient. She constantly lifted her left arm to look at the watch that was tied on her left wrist.

"Where could he be? It is beyond dusk." She complained. As if to answer her, he appeared with a grin which exposed his glistering teeth, which seemed intent on brightening her already dull mood.

"You are late." She stated.

"I know, and I am sorry. Anna, a lot is going on in my life right now…"

"I know. Did you meet Jane?"

"Yes, did you know we would? Are you the one who told her what she told me?"

"I am a prophet, Eddie. In this journey to your destiny, there are things I can never be oblivious to; at least not when I am this close to you. I however did not tell her the things she told you, although they are absolutely true. I hope by the end of today, you are going to be completely free."

"Anna, I love Canya, out of free will. If there is something you people are planning, please keep me out of it. After all, Jane is the one who willingly gave up on me…"

"Eddie, Jane is a love girl. No one can know better matters of love than she does. Again, she explained to you why she did what she did, you cannot continue acting like a girl when all we are trying to do is help." He stayed quiet when he saw her scowl, she continued, gently, "Of course, she may have gotten some help, from the High Priestess but that should not concern you now. Brenda told me what happened to you, freeing you is one step to curing you. Besides, she is in trouble, the more you cooperate, the sooner we will help her."

"What do you want me to do?" He breathed and released a bellyful of air. He did not know who the High Priestess was and even if he wanted to know, with Anna's current mood, that would be a pipe dream. He also wanted to know what trouble Brenda was in, but he could not ask, not at the moment.

"Follow me."

He followed her up to a tall tree near the center of Paradise. He wanted to ask what they were to do when she started climbing. Left with no choice, he climbed after her. Once they were comfortably seated on a branch facing one of the tall buildings, she pointed to a window on one of the few lit rooms of the building.

"That is Professor Henry's office, what benefit is it for us to sleuth on his business?

"Just watch, Eddie. His business is least of my concern. Your freedom is what I am here for."

"And, will I get it by…"

"Eddie, just stop being annoying and watch." She had almost shouted, were it not for their stealth.

Eddie shut his mouth and watched. About two minutes after waiting, he saw Professor Henry walk into his office followed by someone. He was intrigued and unknowingly leaned forward. The more he looked, the more his lower jaw loosened to leave his mouth wide open. His disbelief jolted him and were it not for his firm grip on the tree branch, he would have fallen to the ground before losing a few teeth.

"What is she doing up there with him?" He asked.

"What we are here to see. Just watch." Anna gave her unruffled answer, her hands crossed below her bosom. Whatever was happening, it seemed, was of little concern to her.
