Chapter 25 - Dreamt of becoming a doctor (1)

He had rushed towards the room but before he entered he saw Eya seeing one patient bed while Dennis was comforting her. The panic inside the room had already subsided as all the patients were treated while he was in the operation room.

Dennis was running his hand on her back while comforting her saying that it's not her fault for not helping the man on the stretcher.

Dennis heard about it while walking along the halls of the hospital. "I didn't expect Dr. Dolores to freeze like that. I've heard from Nurse Anne that Dr. Dolores used to recommend her some horror movies in which most of it were all morbid type of films."

"Yeah! Good thing our handsome Dr. Alcantara was there or else that patient would have been dead after her negligence."

Dennis dropped his things and ran towards the room were Eya was there. He thought that Eya might be blaming herself after what had happened. To ease her worries he decided to pay her a visit and to help the doctors cure and treat the other patients.

"It's okay Eya. It's not your fault. If I was also there, I might have frozen there too. The worst thing that might have happened is I would have fainted in front of everyone." Dennis was reassuring her that her reaction was normal to anyone who would see the man.

"No, but did Zick fainted or froze when he saw him? NO. Good thing he was there or else I might have been accountable for his death."

Zick was standing at the door of the room and couldn't hear anything that they were talking about. He was hesitating to walk over them or to leave them be.

While contemplating what to do, a nurse greeted him and tried to inform him that everything was now under control. They were just transferring the patients to the other ward to be with their family members.

Hearing Zick's name, Eya turned her head instantly and went to Zick. She wanted him to comfort her, but she was hesitating if it was okay while everyone in the room would see them. But instead, she just stood there and bowed her head to Zick while apologizing for what she had done.

"Z, I'm sorry. I became useless to you at that moment. I should have helped you there but my feet got rooted on the floor. I couldn't move after seeing him."

Zick rubbed his hand on Eya's head and gave the tetra pack tea to her. "Drink this; it will soothe your senses and your nerves. He okay now, so don't worry about him."

Eya took the drink from him and with her puppy eyes, she thanked him once more for saving her.

When they were young, Eya dreamt to become a doctor when she grew up.

From then on, she always answered the question "what would you like to be when you grow up?" as 'doctor'. It all continued when she was fascinated to learn more about human anatomy during their second year in high school. Eya was an average student; she was not the brightest kid in her class but at least she was eager to learn more than the normal ones.

Unlike Zick who was a mathematician of their class. His mathematical knowledge surpassed that of those in higher years and he was always the representative of their school for quiz bees and Mathematical Olympics. Whatever it was Zick would always bring a gold medal home. Mr. and Mrs. Alcantara thought that their son would become a Filipino Mathematician. But he then became the first doctor in their family.

Alcantara was known to be a family with good business skill. Members of the family were business owners, accountants or Mathematics Professors. Ziccolo Ferdinand Alcantara chose a new career for himself.

Zoey remembered her older brother as a faint-hearted coward when they were kids. There was a time when he accidentally broke their glass table while standing above it because he was reaching for the light switch. When he broke the glass table, a chunk of the glass pierced his right leg that caused him to have a palm-size wound.

Their nanny that time was cleaning the living room and thought that the kids were just playing inside their playroom.

Zick was just eight and Zoey was five back then. After seeing her brother bleeding she yelled her nanny's name. She saw Zick's condition and immediately called an ambulance for Zick.

Zick, however, fainted and there was blood surrounding his body lying on the floor.

Mr. and Mrs. Alcantara rushed to the hospital where Zick was admitted.

Although Zick was just wounded, his psychological health was damaged as he was traumatized after seeing bowlful of his blood.

Zick underwent a three-month recovery session with a pediatrician and psychologist to heal his mental condition. His parents thought that they wouldn't allow their kids to enter the kitchen ever again moreover they also changed the furniture in their home.
