Downtown was not my element. Most fairies thrive in at least somewhat natural areas. Cities were almost completely artificial, aside from the odd tree or flower garden. But, the dance was considered 'Formal attire', so Pisces and Scorpio dragged Jamie and me out to get dresses. Pisces stopped us at a shop, "I've got something I've had my eye on here. You mind if we check?"
"Uh, sure?" Scorpio looked at the shop. It was pretty unassuming, average in size, and didn't even have a storefront sign. We walked in, and almost immediately, I hated it. The place seemed way too large, and even with Scorpio and Pisces, there was no way we'd be able to afford anything in the shop. "What can I help you ladies with?" A woman stood behind the counter. "We're looking for some more, formal, wear." Pisces slid a card to her. "I see. Well, right this way, Miss Topaz."
We followed the lady to the back, where she handed Pisces a bag with a bracelet in it. "Have a nice day." Pisces took the bag, and hastily walked out. Scorpio quickly followed her, while Jamie and I were left behind. "So, are we getting something here or-" Jamie started.
"I've already got something. If you want to, you can, but our payment just walked out." I was considering following them, but I didn't want to leave Jamie alone. "Oh, alright." We both left the shop, to find Scorpio and Pisces arguing in the front. "$40,000! Pisces! We both know right now we're living off inheritance! The company's money is going mainly to Hellsing!" Pisces played with the bracelet, and put it on. "Trust me, it's worth it." She tapped it, and a dress materialized on her, "This way, at least one of us will be able to fight in something appropriate if Lucifer attacks then." Scorpio sighed, "Fine. But if he doesn't, you get a full refund on it, got it? We don't have the kind of money we used to."
We walked through downtown looking for somewhere where Jamie and Scorpio could get something. Being honest, I didn't have anything, but there was no way I was going to wear a dress. I had robes, and those fit the criteria. "I'll be back," I started branching off toward a Mexican restaurant, "I have to check something." Jamie looked at me, and nodded. "Alright, we'll be in the area." I walked in, and sat at the farthest booth from the door. "Please be just a dream." I whispered to myself. I put a card on the table, and closed my eyes.
I appeared in front of my dad's mansion. It was practically untouched. "Thank Go-"
"Back for more?" An almost seductive voice echoed behind me. "Please don't be what I think." I turned around. The street was nothing more than charcoal. Bodies lined the area, and standing in the middle of it all was Lucifer. "Welcome back, granddaughter." In an instant, he was in front of me, and had his hand on my throat. "No escapes thing time." He pulled up his suit jacket and shirt, "You did quite the number on me. I almost bled out, luckily though, I had some help." My dad slowly walked toward him from an alley. "No-" I barely gasped. "I'm sorry. I didn't have a choice." He looked at me. Tears lined his eyes. "I gave him a choice," Lucifer looked back at him, and when he did, my dad winced, "Either I finish my work on your lousy race, or he heals me. Needless to say, he chose the latter." I slipped my wand out from my sleeve. "Oh no you don't!" He kicked my hand. I felt the joint leave it's socket. I stifled a scream. The silence cut with the echo of wood hitting the ground. "I should've done that before! It's so much more effective!"
My vision began blurring, when suddenly I saw my dad's eyes widen. "Sister." He gasped, and stumbled forward. "I'm sorry," Lucifer turned around, "What?" My dad kept moving forward, and grabbed the collar of Lucifer's suit jacket. Lucifer let go of me, and I hit the ground. "BRIT! GO!" I stumbled to grab my wand, and barely stood up. "BRIT!" Jamie yelled from behind me. I ran toward her, and looked at my dad. "I'll be fine." He slammed Lucifer on the ground. "Be good, okay?" Lucifer stood up, with a glowing blade in his hand. "NO!" He shoved it through my dad's chest, and turned around to me. A bullet fell from the sky and hit Lucifer's wing. He winced, and turned around. "Now!" Jamie moved her foot on the card on the ground, and we disappeared.
We appeared in the booth. I tried to move my wrist. "Don't." Jamie looked at it, and held my arm. "Try to keep it steady." She pressed her fingers in the area where the joint was supposed to be, and shoved the joint back in. A loud click filled the air, followed by silence. "I'm surprised I got that first try." I stood up, and put my wand back in my sleeve. "How did you know?"
"I didn't. I just wanted to make sure nothing went wrong." We walked out, and were greeted by Scorpio and Pisces. "What happened?!" Pisces ran to me. "You're both mind readers, you know what happened."
"So Lucifer-"
"Is closer, and stronger than I thought."
"So do we tell Bill and Akumura." Scorpio asked, pulling out her phone.
"Do you tell us what?" Bill asked, from behind me.
