Chapter 12 - Demons have black blood [Scorpio]

I looked up to see Jamie with her rifle. She waved at Bill and Naomi, and started flying again. I grabbed my arm. There was blood coming from somewhere, but I didn't quite know, the whole left half of my body felt like pain in it's purest form. I knew there was shrapnel of some kind in there, but I didn't know where. I heard Alucard scream again, followed by Bill flying through the hole I made. He jumped out, his sword at the ready. There was a black stream coming from his forehead, trickling down to his hand, leaving a trail. I didn't know a lot about Demons, but one of the first things I learned about the supernatural was that Demons' blood is black.

I heard another gunshot, followed by Alucard screaming. I tried grabbing my weapon, but my arm refused to move. 'I have to do something'. I tried again, but nothing. "Come on." My arm moved a little, but right away fire shot through my veins. "Shit!" I felt something dig into my bicep. Well, at least I found the shrapnel. I pulled up my sleeve, and looked at the damage. There was a chunk of steel lodged in my arm, blood was streaming from the spot. I touched it, but again, my arm felt like it was peeling off. I grabbed at it, and pulled, trying not to look. I felt it leave my arm, followed by more blood streaming through. I mustered as much strength as possible and ripped off part of my sleeve. "Why did I think this was good idea?" I tore the sleeve in half and tied it around the wound. "There we go."

I looked through the hole. Somehow, Alucard had already regrown most of his arm, but the forearm on the other side was missing as well. I looked up and saw Jamie shooting at him, missing a majority of his shots. Why did I think this was good idea? I looked and saw Naomi get slapped into a wall, her skull caving in from the impact, but she just got up as if nothing happened. Why did I think this was a good idea? I saw Bill get smacked to the ground, and Alucard step on him. Bill screamed, his ribs getting crushed under the weight. Why did I think this was good idea? I curled up in a ball, and started crying.

My dad and I were in the library. "Scorpio, I have something to tell you."

"What is it papa?" He handed me a book, it was long. Especially for my age. It looked to be 500 pages, maybe more. "Do you remember the stories your grandmother tells you?" I nodded, "Uh huh."

"Those are real. Every one of them. When you turn 16, I want you to read this. It has information about this family and our history. When your time comes to inherit everything, you will write your story in this book." I looked at him, "Grandma's stories are real?" He nodded, "Yes."

"Even the ones about the Demons?" He nodded again. "But I thought Demons were bad guys. Why did they save her?"

"Well, not everything is black and white. Sometimes, it's grey." I looked at him. I didn't get it. Everything told me the Demons were the bad guys, and the Angels were the good guys. My dad put his hand on my head, "Don't think too hard on it if you don't want to." That night, in my room, I opened the book. The first page read, "The blood of a Demon is black. It is possible for them to hide this, but when put under stress, without a doubt it will be." It showed a picture of a Demon, his bat-like wings stretched out, red and black eyes, and black blood running from his chest. I swiftly closed the book, vowing to never open it until my sixteenth birthday.

The date flowed through my mind, November 12th 2018. What was it? It was important. I had been looking forward to it since I was a kid. My Birthday. But why was this one so special? I don't get any extra privileges since I don't drive anyway. The book. I remembered a book. It was under my bed. I shot up. My arm didn't hurt. The cloth wrapped around it turned from grey to dark red. I slowly stood up. "I can fight." I pulled out my scythe, and ran toward Alucard. He turned around, but before he could do anything, I cut straight into his face. Red spewed from his nose and eyes. Bill looked at me, "HE'S BLINDED! NAOMI! NOW!" She stood completely still, holding her sword in a stance that looked like she was a cat ready to pounce. Her sword started glowing, then, in a flash, she jumped to Alucard, stabbing him through the chest. "How dare you take advantage of what I gave you!" He tried swinging at her with his now fully regenerated arm. I took a deep breath, my dad was standing behind him, signaling it was time for them to meet. I swung at his neck, getting my blade caught half-way through. I jumped away, not caring about my weapon. Bill ran in, sticking his sword in, leaving a small bit of skin left. I ran back, grabbed my scythe, and jumped back. Bill pulled his sword out of Alucard's neck. A bullet flew from the sky, cutting through the remaining strands of skin, severing the giant's head. Naomi walked up to us, already seemingly perfectly regenerated. Bill and I dropped to the ground. Jamie flew down, and put her hand on Bill's shoulder. "I think he's dead." Naomi put her finger up, "One thing." She bit into what remained of his neck, his body shriveling, and the skin losing color. She stood up, and looked at the sky. "Well, I'd consider that a minor success." I looked at Naomi and Jamie, then turned my head to Bill. He gave a thumbs up, and stood, using his sword to keep his balance. I tried to get up, but my left leg was numb, as was my arm. I started fading in and out of consciousness, until I felt my head hit the concrete.

I woke up in a car, Bill sitting next to me, "Oh, good, you're awake." He dabbed a cloth on my head. "Don't be surprised if you have some trouble staying awake. You hit your head pretty hard."

"Who's-" I struggled to speak, "Who's driving?" He pointed to the front seat. Naomi was sitting in the passenger's seat, and in the driver's seat was Miss Harley. "Chasan told me to get you. He must've known something like this was going to happen." I sighed. Bill's head had a wrapping around it, with a black line showing through it. "Demons have black blood..." I reached and touched the wrap. I smiled, and passed out again.
