Chapter 3 - If a mute can sing

Cecilia frowned and was about to go downstairs.

Emma was fearless from a young age, never backing down from a challenge.

Though she always supported her daughter’s independence, now wasn’t the right time. She didn't want Emma in these disputes.

However, Emma wasn't going to let Cecilia stop her.

"My mommy is Riane, and she's not going to sing for you guys!"

Cecilia massaged her temples.

‘What a troublemaker!’

Samuel hesitated for a moment before laughing, "Where did this lying kid come from?"

Emma responded, "I'm not lying!"

Sophie looked at Emma’s familiar face, feeling uneasy as she recognized the girl’s features.

She sneered. "As far as I know, Riane has always lived abroad. How can you start lying at such a young age?"

She picked up a glass of water on the table, her eyes venomous. She was ready to splash Emma with water.

"How about I teach you on behalf of your mom?"

That face reminded her of someone.

Her most despised sister, Cecilia.

They looked exactly the same.

Splash!

A figure dashed past, and Sophie, who had just finished her makeup, was now drenched like a wet cat.

Cecilia picked Emma up, coldly staring at the familiar faces in front of her. Afterward, she threw the glass cup she had taken from Sophie at the latter’s feet.

Everyone present was stunned.

Emma cheered, "Mommy! Mommy, tell them you are Riane."

Cecilia looked around at everyone with cold eyes, making them unable to meet her gaze.

Everyone clearly recognized her, but they couldn't believe it was really her, the eldest daughter of Morrison Family.

After she first lost her voice, she had been extremely nervous and cautions. She always hid her stunning face behind thick bangs since then.

However, it was a big contrast to her powerful demeanor and graceful look currently.

Samuel burst into laughter as he pointed at Cecilia. "Are you saying Cecilia is Riane?"

Emma nodded, making everyone in the room laugh.

“Come on, who doesn’t know that Cecilia Morrison is a mute?"

"If a mute can sing, I'll eat this table right now!"

In just a second, a crisp and cold voice echoed in the building.

"Then eat it now."

Sophie was fixing her makeup, and she ended up smearing her lipstick when she heard the voice.

Samuel, on the other hand, choked on his own saliva.

Everyone was focused on Cecilia's lips.

The same lips that spoke just now.

"Will you eat it yourself, or should I feed you? My dear fiancé."

Voices erupted among the guests.

Cecilia noticed Frank’s shock.

He was probably surprised by her voice, which resembled her mother’s.

"The eldest Miss Morrison can speak now. From her attitude, she’s probably not here to break off the engagement, but to steal it..."

"What's there to steal? She was originally supposed to marry Young Master Kingsley. In terms of birth and appearance, she is way superior to that illegitimate daughter who used a mistress to climb the ranks."

Sophie blushed red and then paled at their words.

Ever since her mother rose through an affair to be Mrs. Morrison, she had been constantly compared to Cecilia, and she was found lacking in every way.

The moment Cecilia turned mute and hid away from the world, she had the opportunity to shine.

Marrying into a wealthy family was her lifelong pursuit.

Now, how could she tolerate someone trying to steal her marriage?

Sophie stood up suddenly, her eyes fierce but her tone soft.

"Sister, please just move on. Samuel and I are truly in love. I've always surrendered to you since we were kids. If you don’t ruin my engagement ceremony, I'll do anything you ask..."

As she said that, she knelt down.

Cecilia stared coldly at the woman in front of her, feeling disgusted.

Her stepmother, Mariah, discreetly tugged at Frank’s sleeve. He gently helped Sophie to her feet.

However, his gaze toward Cecilia turned ice-cold.

"Are you here just to make trouble?!"

He cast a disdainful glance at Emma.

"A few years ago, you already shamed our family by conceiving a bastard. Now, you’re bringing back another one? If Sophie hadn’t gotten close to the Kingsley family and persuaded them not to end the engagement by only swapping the brides, our family would’ve been an outcast in Star City!"

"Return your engagement ring quickly. From now on, the Morrison family has nothing to do with you!"

Cecilia sneered. She had always been disappointed with this so-called father of hers starting from four years ago. It was a blessing to cut ties with him today.

She took out an antique ring inlaid with emerald, her tone cold.

"My child is not illegitimate. Also..."

She tossed the ring onto the table, her face emotionless.

"Don’t forget that it’s you, Morrisons, who don’t deserve us!"

With that, Cecilia took Emma away.

But just then, she heard Sophie quietly sneering.

"You claim she’s not a bastard but looks just like a vixen, same as you."

Without hesitation, Cecilia turned around and swiftly kicked Sophie in the stomach.

Sophie was caught off-guard, her body landing back as her head slammed against the edge of the table.

Blood flowed from her forehead, staining her carefully prepared white dress.

"Ahh!"

Instantly, her screams engulfed the entire venue.

However, Cecilia couldn't care less. She smirked as she turned and left.

"Mommy is so cool!"

"No time for flatteries. Tell me, how did you find me here? What about Edwin?"

Emma's eyes sparkled mischievously. "Edwin fell asleep at the hotel. Since you weren’t around, I followed you using the GPS on my watch."

Cecilia was speechless.

Was Edwin really that unprofessional? Or did Emma drug him?

Either way, she was truly a little troublemaker!

"Let's go. I'll teach you a lesson when we get back!"

Emma stuck out her tongue and followed Cecilia into the car.

But as they arrived back at the hotel and passed by the restaurant bar, Cecilia suddenly remembered something.

‘Wait, wasn’t Emma at the restaurant bar this afternoon? How did she follow me so quickly?’

Before she could react, a group of people blocked her in the lobby, their faces serious.

"Sorry, the bar is blocked for now."

Cecilia never planned on going into the bar, but being stopped when she was just a few meters away made her curious.

Who were they, acting so domineering here?

"Why? What's going on?"

One of the bodyguards in black, said flatly, "The Lawrence family’s young master was hugged and kissed by an unknown woman this afternoon. He has ordered a thorough investigation to find the culprit."

Mr. Lawrence? He was also here?
