Steven read the letter he had anonymously received.
It only had one sentence.
"Mr. Lawrence, you'll never find me. Don’t approach me or even dream of marrying me.."
"Where did this letter come from?"
Zane replied, "It was sent here. I checked the sending address, but it turned out to be a fake one."
Steven rubbed his temples, a familiar whiff of gardenia entering his nostrils.
A beautiful face flashed in his mind, but he quickly shook it off.
Cecilia was just a scheming woman trying to benefit from Alex; she can’t be Riane.
However, as he read the letter, the words seemed oddly familiar, as if he had heard them before...
Inside the hotel, Cecilia was fuming as she read the news on her phone.
The news stated that Steven claimed Riane had arrived in Star City, and he was determined to find her no matter what.
He was chasing her from abroad all the way to her homeplace. Was he planning to make her life a living hell?
Not wanting to attract attention upon her return, she had sent a letter with a fake address to Steven through Edwin, hoping he would give up the search.
But now, things only escalated.
She sighed deeply.
Her phone suddenly rang, and she picked it up with a steely gaze.
On the other end, Frank’s angry voice rang out.
"Cecilia, return the money from the Leaves Fund immediately!"
She lay back on the bed, her tone nonchalant.
"What Fund? I have no idea what you're talking about. I’ve already returned the ring, and we have no more connection with each other."
"Cecilia, don't play dumb with me. If you don't return the money, I'll..."
Before he could finish, she hung up and stretched lazily, ready to get some sleep.
Of course, she knew about the Leaves Fund.
Back then, everyone wanted the money. Knowing her time was limited, her mother Lilian had entrusted her to the Kingsleys as a temporary measure. She didn’t trust any of them at all.
She had revealed the ring’s secret to Cecilia, along with a rule known only to her.
Once Cecilia turned eighteen, she had the option to cancel the engagement and withdraw all the money from the Leaves Fund.
It turned out Lilian’s worries were justified. After leaving the Morrison family, Cecilia was able to live overseas with Emma thanks to those funds.
Cecilia drifted off to sleep, waking up in the dead of night.
She carefully covered Emma with a blanket before slipping out of bed.
The Morrison and Kingsley families had nothing to do with her. She was only back this time to find her son.
Before returning, she had already hired a private detective and was about to meet him now.
Passing through the hotel lobby, Cecilia was still upset about Emma staying alone and went to the front desk.
If Emma kept running around, who knew what trouble she would get into?
In the dimly lit lobby, she saw a man with his back to her. He was at the front desk, his face not very visible.
She politely asked, "Hello, could you please monitor the child in Room 8888? If she goes out, please call me. Thank you."
The figure in front of her twitched but did not respond.
Confused, she asked, "Sir, are you listening?"
With that, she tapped the figure on the shoulder. The man turned around, and it turned out to be Steven with his cold eyes.
Cecilia recoiled as if jolted.
"It's you?"
"It's you?"
They both exclaimed simultaneously.
Coughing awkwardly, Cecilia remembered the letter and quickly cleared her throat.
On the other hand, Steven furrowed his brows.
This woman had followed him here.
Although the hotel was under him, only his family knew about it. When he refused to disclose information about Cecilia to Alex, Alex had left in a huff and came to stay in the Presidential Suite here.
He had no idea he would encounter Cecilia here.
She was also staying in a similar suite, her room just beside Alex’s. It seemed she had spared no cost in trying to get close to the Lawrences.
The hotel was known to be the most expensive in Star City, with a nightly rate of fifty thousand dollars.
Sensing Steven’s increasingly angry gaze, Cecilia felt chills down her spine. She quickly left, bidding him goodbye.
"Hello, Mr Lawrence. Goodbye, Mr. Lawrence!"
Meanwhile, Emma, who was asleep moments ago, suddenly got up after hearing Cecilia leaving. She put on her socks, clothes, and a hat with a smile.
Done!
"Mommy went to find my brother, so now it's my turn to find Daddy!"
She took a few steps but then halted, recalling something.
"Wait! I should check if Mommy has left!"
With that, she peeked out the window.
She was pleasantly surprised to see a child in the neighboring balcony, peeking down the same as her.
The child is wearing a similar hat and seemingly the same age as her.
"Hey, are you also looking for your mom?"
The child on the opposite side looked up slightly. "No, I don't have one."
Although they only spoke briefly, Emma felt oddly familiar with him.
Forgetting momentarily what she was doing, the two children began chatting away.
