Chereads / The Agent's Desire / Chapter 4 - Lucas Thorn

Chapter 4 - Lucas Thorn

"Lucas Thorn," the DJ's eyes went wide as he set his gaze on him.

"What is he doing here?"

The partygoers fell back to the DJ. "What the hell?"

"Why did you stop the music? "they shouted at him. The DJ fixed his gaze on the man who walked in. Lucas's unwavering gaze was also on him. The DJ hurriedly parked his stuff and scurried out of the clubhouse.

"What the hell?" The partygoers shouted at him. He parked his stuff and ran out of the club, trying to escape the man who just walked in. He came for him. With his bag clunking behind him, he dashed away from the clubhouse, his eyes revering as he checked if the man followed him, but no one was after him.

His face crept into confusion. He stopped in his step to glance back thoroughly. His gaze was on the path behind him, and he had no idea the man was already standing before him.

"Are you searching for me?" His voice sounded, and the DJ's eyes went round. Fear cascaded up his face, and he dared not look back at the man. He held his bag tight as he attempted to run off again, but Lucas cornered him and kicked him down.

He fell to the ground with a loud thud as he groaned out. The man took a few steps towards him and crouched before him.

"Lucas, please, I know nothing," the DJ sputtered. An unreadable expression flickered on the man's face. His covered face revealed no expression, but his eyes did it all. His striking hazel eyes burred into the DJs'.

"I know nothing," he exclaimed, and a smirk escaped the man's lips.

"You know nothing, and yet you ran off on seeing me," his deep voice gnawed in response.

"Please let me off!" The DJ pleaded.

"I don't care what happens to you. You know the reason I'm here." The man barred. "Where is she?''

''I have no idea. I have no idea where your mother is," the DJ replied, and something dangerous flickered through the man's eyes. His hand flew to the DJ's belly as he threw him a ribs-breaking punch. His mouth erupted into a shout.

"I avoided your ribs on purpose, but I won't again. I will only ask once again, where is my mother?" His lips snarled.

The DJ's face squeezed as he took in the agonizing pain he was in.

"I have no idea where she is now, but the last time she spoke to me, she informed me that she was in the Black Diamonds zone. After that, she told me not to make contact with her, so that was the last time I spoke with her," the DJ said.

The eyes of the man reddened at his word.

"The Black Diamonds!!" His voice sounded.

"I've told you what I know; please let me go now!" The DJ pleaded.

"Not yet. Lucas answered,' If she was in Black Diamond's territory when you last spoke with her, then there are still chances she might still be there. So I need to enter,' the man uttered, and the DJ's face squealed more out of pain as he held his belly.

"Well, that has nothing to do with me. I am no longer an agent of the Black Diamond Agency, so I can't help you," he murmured. But the man's lips curled into a scoff, and he gave him another punch, making sure one of his ribs cracked.

An agonizing scream erupted from the DJ's lips. Lucas didn't have to say a word; he knew just what to do. THE DJ took out the Black Diamonds recruitment card he had on him.

"This is your only ticket to entering the agency camp," he mumbled in pain. Lucas stood up. His gaze was on the card in his hands. His eyes simmered an unknown expression before leaving the scene. He placed his hand into his hoodie pocket and walked away, leaving the DJ waggling in pain. His hand trembled as he brought out his cell phone and dialed a number.

"Hello! 911, I need an ambulance. My rib is broken, his voice trailed off.

Meanwhile, Lucas walked away from the scene and watched as the ambulance came and picked up the DJ. His eyes did not concern him as they were revered on the card before him. His gaze focused primarily on the words written boldly in dark ink: "THE BLACK DIAMONDS!!"

ROSEMARY TOWN

Isla had taken the bodyguard around the little rosemary town, showing him its nooks, crannies, and everything there was to know about him. As he walked back to the man, a smile fixed on his face, I followed him.

"You haven't told me your name yet. That's not fair; you already know my name," I told him. He looked at me and smiled. I had to smile back because his smiling face was so enchanting. If Agent James hadn't taken my heart, I would have been sure to fall for him.

"Jefferson," he introduced himself, and I smiled.

"I will be sure to remember," I murmured in reply.

The man sitting with my father stood up on our arrival. They were done with their discussion and were ready to leave. My father walked Jefferson back to his car. Jefferson waved back at me before entering the vehicle and screeching away from our town. I waved back at him with a smile.

"I hope all city guys are like him. He was reserved but fun to be with. If I went to the city, I was confident I already had a friend."

After their car disappeared, we returned to the field to resume work, but my eyes caught a card on the chair beside the field. It was on the exact spot the man from the city sat on. I rushed to the card and picked it up, running off in the direction their car took, hoping I could call them back and give the card back to him, but they were long gone. My eyes simmered down to the card, and I opened it to check its contents.

My eyes widened as my gaze fell in contact with the first word on the card: "THE BLACK DIAMONDS RECRUITMENT CARD!!" I gave off a scream as I read the words. I ran away from the road and back to our field, jumping onto one of the maize plants.

"I'm finally going to fulfill my dreams!!" I screamed in excitement as I ran to my parents. They stared at me, wondering what was wrong, and I broke the news to them with excitement. I was so eager that I didn't wait to hear what they said. I dashed to my room, took down my traveling bag, and began parking. I held one of Agent James' portraits in my hands, and I kissed it repeatedly.

"I am finally going to meet you!" I squealed in joy as happiness radiated into me. My joy knew no bounds. I didn't know how the card got to the man, but I didn't care either. I took him as my guardian angel, who had created the path for my dream to hatch. I danced around my room as I began packing my bags.

The Black Diamonds recruitment training camp was filled with participants. Different people could be seen entering the camp, slung with luggage. In their hands was the recruitment card that had met with them by fate and connection. The participants' eyes scanned the agency in awe as they viewed its magnificent building. Their eyes also shimmered at the agents that could be seen. A path had been designated for them to pass, as the camp was far from the main buildings.

The participants took the path, each at their designated spot. All participants, in their early twenties, stood waiting for the others to join them. Different males and females swarmed the agency ground. Some were dressed in luxury head-to-toe, while others wore everyday outfits. The participants' chatter covered the entire atmosphere. Each had a smile on their faces as they continued their intriguing chatter.

Some stood alone, peering at the others, while some stood amidst the crowd, joining in on the chatter. Digger bags of numerous colors lay on the agency ground. They were all prepared for their four-month journey. Each participant stood determined and zealous to become one of the chosen agents at the end of the training.

Isla had parked her bags and was ready to go on her way. Her family stood by the door as they watched her carry her numerous pieces of luggage.

"Why did you park so many clothes? Are you planning on not returning home?" Mr Whitmore sputtered to her.

"Dad, we will be there for four months. I have to park my luggage well so that I won't need anything," Isla replied.

"You have to take care of yourself. The city is full of dangerous and scary people. If you can't handle it anymore, just come back home, okay?" Mrs Whitmore sputtered to Isla. Tears clouded her face as she looked at her family.

She was eager to go to the city and fulfill her dreams but felt sad about leaving her family.

"If you can't handle it any longer, then just come back and accept your fate as a farmer," Sabastian mused. Isla smiled. For the first time, she didn't consider him annoying. Each family member gave Isla their goodbye greetings and helped her load her bags into the car she got into with her dad.

Isla drove to the city to fulfill her long-hoped-for dream, but little did she know that more than her wish awaited her.
