Chapter 28 – Blood on the Horizon
The air was thick with the scent of approaching danger. The forest seemed to darken as the rogue army drew closer, their silhouettes shifting between the trees. Selene stood at Rylen's side, her heart hammering in her chest.
"Positions!" Rylen's voice thundered across the packhouse grounds. Warriors scrambled into place, gripping their weapons tightly.
Cassian hurried over, his face grim. "They're splitting into three groups. One's heading toward the eastern border, another's flanking from the west… and the largest group is coming straight for us."
Selene's fingers curled into fists. "They're trying to overwhelm us."
"They think they can," Rylen growled. "They don't know what's waiting for them."
