And he had kept his promise, they had remained husband and wife even though they lived like strangers until a week ago, when he was killed while protecting her.
As she stood at the edge of the cliff, she still remembers the words he said when he used his body to block the knife aimed at her neck.
"Am here baby. Don't be afraid. I will protect you." He had held her tightly in his arms and refused to let go even when he was bleeding out. Realizing that he was losing his life due to excessive blood loss, he held her even tighter and apologized to her.
" I'm sorry baby, I won't be able to protect you from now on, I won't be able to watch you while you sleep, and won't be able to grow old together with you."
"But I am happy because I got to marry you. Making you my wife was the best decision I have ever made in my life. Please be happy baby. If there is a next life, I will look for you and marry you again. I love you baby." Then his arms started to loosen as he breathed his last.
Weiwei had always wondered why she felt like someone was watching her while she slept. She even brought it up with Mo Shian once and he had said he would increase the security around their villa, but it turned out he was the one watching her. He had loved her more than his own life, but because of her stupidity, they had a miserable marriage which even led to his death. And that same stupidity was getting her killed by the two people she trusted the most. They took advantage of her grieving and told her they would take her to the cottage Mo Shian had built for her when they got married. It was built in the mountains two hours from City Y to help her relax when she did not want to experience the chaos of the big city.
Shen Hao and Xinya had shown up at her villa this morning and told her they didn't want to leave her to grieve alone and that it was better if they went to the cottage to forget for a few days before she thought about how to live her life without Mo Shian. But as soon as they got to the cottage, Xinya had produced several papers and asked for Weiwei's signature. She had said it was for a business they had talked about starting together a long time ago.
"Weiwei, do you remember the beauty salon business we had dreamt of starting but we put it on hold because of your marriage? Now that Mo Shian is gone, you will need something to keep you busy so that you don't keep thinking about him and end up getting sick or depressed."
"Hao and I thought about it and decided that it was the best time to start the business and we came up with a proposal and showed it to a few potential investors. They loved the idea and agreed to invest, so everything is ready. All that is needed is your signature since you will be a partner too."
Weiwei had signed the papers without even reading them since she trusted the two people in front of her. Unbeknownst to her, those were property transfer papers transferring all the properties Mo Shian had left her to them.
But she found out soon enough when Shen Hao pulled a gun from his waist and aimed it at her. Weiwei was shocked and asked what was going on, and that's when Xia Xinya told her everything about how she caused misunderstandings between her and Mo Shian, how Shen Hao only got close to her because Xinya asked him to, how Mo Shian loved her so much and was, in fact, the one who convinced his grandfather to arrange their marriage, and how the people who tried to kill her and ended up killing Mo Shian were hired by them.
"You are so stupid to have thought that I would actually like to be close to a loser like you." Xinya had said,
"Someone as stupid as you deserves to lose everything, and now, since you have signed the document transferring everything to us, we can stop pretending and Shen Hao and I will get married and enjoy the money Mo Shian left."
"At first I wanted to separate you two, then I could marry him and live the life of a rich Madam Mo, but I had underestimated Mo Shian's love for you and his devotion to you. No matter what I told him, he just wouldn't divorce you, so the only way was to kill you and marry him, but that fool took the knife for you and ended up dead." Xinya said.
"How could the two of you do this to me? I treated you like a sister even though dad married your mother when you were already twelve years old."
"I trusted you Xinya. And you, Shen Hao, I treated you so well, why would you ruin my life like this?" Weiwei could not believe the words coming out of Xinya's mouth. She had just lost her husband and now she was losing a sister and a dear friend. The pain was so much that she felt like someone was cutting flesh from her heart with a knife.
"I gave you everything you asked for; expensive jewelry, designer clothes, I even bought you a limited edition car. What else do you want?" Weiwei screamed as she asked with tears running down her face to her chin and soaking her blouse.
"I want everything you have. Once you are dead, I will be the only young miss of the Xia family and all your money and property will be mine. And you will be nothing but a corpse rotting in these woods." Xinya 'kindly' explained.
