I sat on my sofa and combed my hair while humming a nursery rhyme
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star...". I am grateful to have been reborn. God really favours me.
"Why did a pretty girl like Avery want to die?",I asked myself as a splitting headache disrupts my thoughts. I had seen all of her memories from the part where I mom died of stage four cancer, then to where he dad married her tutor and to her getting mistreated by that same tutor. And there were many more incidents that are yet to be discovered.
*sigh*
I packed my hair and headed downstairs.
The mansion was breathtakingly beautiful. Sparkling chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting colorful lights on the shiny marble floors. Rich, velvet curtains framed the large windows, showing off the perfectly manicured gardens.
The furniture was polished to perfection and looked like art. Soft, plush carpets felt wonderful underfoot. Everywhere I looked, I saw beautiful vases, sculptures, and paintings that added to the mansion's elegance.
A stunning staircase curved upward, its intricate railings twisting like vines. Every detail in the mansion showed its luxurious and refined design.
I wasn't new to all these things nor did they affect me all that made me worried was why my room was so different from the entire mansion. My room looked like a maid room while I was the daughter of this family.
I held my long skirt and hopped down the stairs looking vibrantly at the place. Mr Wellesley looked at me from where he was and released a slight smile.
"Avery, stop all this ruckus and go read, the academy resumes soon",Stella said holding her bloated tummy. "I just regained consciousness if I'm not mistaken, reading right now in my state really isn't good", I looked at her elegantly not even blinking. I was used to people like her who didn't know their place.
" I just want the best for you since you are my only daughter. I'm sorry if I upset you",Stella said putting on a little act like she was a caring step mother. *I smirked*. She's really good at acting, why don't I put on a little act too.
"My darling step mother whom I love with all my heart. I know all you want for me is success and happiness but come to think of it you are right if I study and graduate with honours, I'll become a tutor and steal someone's husband", I said with a big goofy smile.
Stella couldn't hide her anger, she almost revealed herself but she held it in. She gritted her teeth and faked a smile"...darling is this why you are angry?, your father and I love each other so much that's why we got married".
"I heard you have another daughter, I'm not your only daughter", as soon as I spoke Stella's fake smile dropped. "She's 18, a year older than me. Stella don't be shocked you told me that your daughter will take over Wellesley estates and become it's owner before I fell into a coma... didn't you?". I came closer to her and whispered three words into her ear "I'll destroy you".
Stella shaked off my words and smiled."Avery go get dressed, you have an appointment with a suitor",She said holding my hands and running back upstairs
Upstairs Stella was decking me up like I was getting married. She even braided my hair."where am I going ", I asked pushing Stella's hand away. Your dad has set you up with guy, he works at his company", she said applying more foundation on my face.
"Ohh, this would even give me a chance to see the outside world",I thought. Few minutes later Stella was done and I was decked up
"I stood before the mirror, smoothing my silk gown, a soft blue color that complemented my skin. The fitted bodice was adorned with delicate embroidery, while my dark hair was styled in an elegant updo, secured with a pearl comb. A simple silver necklace with a small sapphire pendant added a touch of elegance. With my white gloves in place, I felt refined and ready for the day."
"Why was Stella doing this?,there has to be a reason", I thought looking at the mirror. Soon after I was in my black Bentley holding my phone. I arrived at a hotel. Why was I at a hotel?.I was excorted to a room where I sat and waited for the so called date.
The room, the smell, I was being poisoned, I had to run, I struggled to open the door but it seemed as if it was locked from the outside. I couldn't just wait here and do nothing... what if this was Stella's plan to take away my innocence.
I scanned the room frantically, my eyes burning from the noxious fumes. The air was thick with poison, and I knew I had to escape - fast. That's when I spotted it: a narrow window of opportunity.
Without hesitation, I sprinted towards the window, my heart racing. I hoisted myself up, swinging my legs over the window. For a moment, I hung in mid-air.
Then, I pushed off, launching myself into the unknown. Time slowed as I soared through the air. I landed hard on the floor, my arm twisting beneath me. A sharp pain shot through my shoulder, and I cried out.
Breathless and shaken, I stumbled to my feet. My arm throbbed, but I knew I couldn't afford to stop now.
That's when I saw him - a tall, imposing figure with black hair and piercing onyx eyes. He stood by the window, his gaze fixed on me with an unnerving intensity.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice cold and detached.
I swallowed hard, trying to catch my breath. "I...I was escaping," I stammered.
He raised an eyebrow. "Escaping what?"
"Death"
