Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Mutation

In the early morning, a Hyper-rail train stopped at the station in Bellock Royal City. Utilizing magnetic levitation, supersonic trains have now become widespread across the planet, making travel very convenient.

Qianlong stepped off the train, carrying a small backpack on his shoulder.

He looked around, somewhat lost in the unfamiliar environment. This was the royal city, a place he had only seen in images and videos; indeed, experiencing it in person felt quite different.

"Bellock Royal City is located at 32 degrees north latitude and 72 degrees west longitude, with a comfortable temperature of 26 degrees and a low humidity of 20. The temperature difference between day and night is 18 degrees, which is uncomfortable. Bellock Star is part of the Sixth Star Region, a lower-level civilization with scarce resources, and is one of the member states of the Cosmic Alliance Government, located behind the Fellars Death Line."

Qianlong began to feel a bit out of place, but he had already gotten used to Phantom's sudden voice.

Human civilization had actually entered the great interstellar era long ago, with a large number of humans migrating to various habitable planets, giving rise to new civilizations. Conflicts between these civilizations, some strong and some weak, have been ongoing.

However, thousands of years ago, the great interstellar era suffered a severe blow when the rapidly expanding humans finally clashed with alien races, leading to five hundred years of brutal conflict, forcing humanity to admit defeat.

In light of this situation, the human Cosmic Federation Government had no choice but to establish the Fellars Death Line, abandoning all star regions beyond the Fellars Line, forming the Established Star Region.

As Qianlong exited the station, he couldn't help but stop in his tracks.

The main street outside the station was occupied by a dense crowd of protesters, with men, women, and children excitedly waving flags in protest.

Armed soldiers lined both sides of the road, standing at the ready, but fortunately, no major conflicts had erupted.

Qianlong took a glance and then left with his backpack.

He planned to find a place to stay; initially, he intended to look for a nearby hotel, but he changed his mind since this area had become the main zone for the protests.

"Listen up, if they don't respond, we'll just stay here and wear them down."

A middle-aged bald man in a black tailcoat and white shirt stood on a platform erected in the middle of the crowd, shouting passionately.

The crowd below responded with great enthusiasm, their morale high.

Suddenly, the sky darkened, and Qianlong looked up to see a Light-class Corvette appearing above the city. Although it was just a Light-class Corvette, its hull reached two hundred meters.

Qianlong instinctively looked up at the light frigate.

Phantom immediately provided the data.

"Bellock Kingdom Royal Frigate, 210 meters long, 30 meters wide, equipped with a Second Generation Artificial Intelligence System, powered by Nuclear Fusion. The weapon system has been modified, removing the Secondary Gun and enhancing it with a Light Weapon Multi-barrel Machine Gun modification."

Qianlong suddenly stiffened; generally, no one would modify it this way.

At that moment, a projection appeared beneath the frigate, revealing an old man with a pair of small mustaches and a face full of mocking smiles.

"You have ten minutes to disperse, or you will bear the consequences."

The man on the platform glared at the projection. "Xi Duo Lu, you shameless scoundrel, inciting His Majesty the King."

"Haha, I don't have time to waste on you. Ten-minute countdown. If you still don't know what's good for you, heh heh."

Qianlong instinctively quickened his pace; he never doubted human kindness, nor did he underestimate human malice.

The middle-aged man on the platform shouted at Xi Duo Lu, "I'm right here, what do you want?"

In the command room of the frigate, a glint of ferocity flashed in Xi Duo Lu's eyes.

"Send him to hell."

The captain beside him was taken aback and hesitantly replied.

"Sir, the time isn't up yet, and aren't we just trying to scare them?"

Xi Duo Lu stepped in front of the captain, grabbing his collar. "You do as I say, or he will be your fate."

"Yes, sir."

As Qianlong moved to the side, a commotion filled with panic erupted around him.

He saw black gun barrels extending from the side of the frigate above, densely packed and chilling.

Everyone present changed their expressions, and the middle-aged man on the platform was about to speak.

The dark gun muzzles fired countless bullets, instantly turning the man on the platform into a sieve, then reducing him to a pulp.

Qianlong hurriedly ran to the corner of a nearby building and crouched down.

This was madness.

Xi Duo Lu's image laughed maniacally, "Don't stop, wipe out these lowly peasants."

"Sir, we might hit our own people."

"Get lost, just sweep them away."

With a loud bang, the frigate in the sky suddenly split in two, then began to plummet to the ground.

"Run!"

Before Qianlong could comprehend what was happening, Phantom emitted a piercing alarm.

"Warning! Bug Nest detected, warning! Bug Nest detected, danger level extremely high!"

No one was unfamiliar with the term Bug Nest, but that didn't mean they could accept it when it happened right beside them.

Qianlong was momentarily stunned, shaking his head.

A sharp screech echoed through the air, and Qianlong instinctively covered his ears, blood streaming from them.

He turned to look around, and silence enveloped the area.

Then a massive explosion erupted, and the falling frigate exploded without surprise.

Qianlong instinctively covered his head, being thrown away by the shockwave.

Fortunately, he was far enough away that when he got up from the ground, he wasn't too badly hurt.

"Warning, evacuate immediately!" Phantom kept repeating.

Qianlong looked up at the sky; it was no longer blue. In the void, grotesque, fat bugs with metallic shells crawled out, baring their sharp teeth, falling like cannonballs to the ground, creating deep craters, and then crawling out from them.

Qianlong took a quick glance and turned to run.

"Phantom, calculate an escape route."

"Route planning in progress." Phantom's voice echoed in Qianlong's mind.

Then a green route appeared in Qianlong's vision, and he began to run along it.

"Please note, the route will be adjusted at any time, destination: Bellock Star Interstellar Airport."

As Qianlong ran quickly, he asked, "Is there no possibility of repelling them?"

"Calculating the possibility of Bellock Kingdom repelling the insect invasion, result: 0%." Phantom replied.

Qianlong's expression darkened; if Phantom's calculations were correct, Bellock Star was doomed.

He was also quite puzzled; could there be a breach in the Fellars Line? Otherwise, why would these bugs cross over? Clearly, no one had received any prior information.

"Route adjusted westward; energy fluctuations detected ahead, identified as a new Bug Nest."

Qianlong immediately changed direction. At this moment, the entire royal city was engulfed in extreme panic and wailing, descending into chaos as Bug Nests emerged one after another.
