Chapter 7: It Turns Out That I Am the Only One Who Is Different
At this moment, Nangong Ya, radiant and beautiful, with a pair of large, captivating eyes, stared directly at Yang Xie.
"What do you want to talk to me about? Yang Xie, it seems like you're facing some difficulties," Nangong Ya said, her tone implying that she already knew what was bothering him.
"Yaya, you can tell that much?" Yang Xie smiled awkwardly, surprised by her perceptiveness.
"It's like this," Yang Xie began, nervously. "I've realized that the cultivation method I chose doesn't seem to suit me. I want to try switching to two other cultivation techniques, but I don't have enough money or military merits."
He didn't tell Nangong Ya everything. He feared that if he did, it would worry her too much.
The instructor had also mentioned that practicing multiple techniques at the same time could be unpredictable.
"I was hoping to borrow 20,000 yuan from you to exchange for the first-level cultivation manuals of the other two techniques. I want to see if these new methods are more suitable for me."
Yang Xie felt embarrassed at this moment. Although he had received many things from Nangong Ya today, including the Awakening Pill and several treasures, now he felt guilty asking her for more.
"It should be fine as long as you choose the right attributes for the techniques," Nangong Ya said thoughtfully. "However, compatibility is indeed tricky. Cultivation is a serious matter. Don't worry about paying me back right away. Once we become warriors, we can team up to hunt monsters in the wild. I need reliable teammates."
Nangong Ya hesitated for only a moment before pulling out her personal terminal and transferring 20,000 yuan to Yang Xie.
She was clearly considerate of his feelings. Despite having S-level talent, Nangong Ya still relied on him, a D-level talent. If she wanted, she could easily recruit many other talented individuals to team up with, but right now, she chose Yang Xie.
At that moment, Yang Xie felt more determined than ever. He was confident that he would be able to protect Nangong Ya.
"I'm serious now!" Yang Xie said, his voice filled with enthusiasm.
"Really? Why do I feel like you're a completely different person since your awakening?" Nangong Ya observed him curiously.
"What do you mean? I'm still the handsome, popular, and talented campus boy," Yang Xie teased.
"Pfft, you're shameless!" Nangong Ya laughed, but then her expression turned thoughtful. "No, really, something's different. You've always been confident, but now you seem... even more confident than before."
"Nonsense, Yaya! Just look at my current status—I'm an awakener now!" Yang Xie grinned, feeling a surge of pride.
Nangong Ya stared at him, her gaze sharp, sensing that there was more to it. "I don't think this confidence is just because of your D-level awakening."
Yang Xie paused, his heart skipping a beat. She was right. The confidence he felt now wasn't solely due to his awakening. But he didn't want to explain further—especially the fact that his martial soul could practice on its own.
He didn't want to raise suspicion. He was the only one who was different.
But for now, Yang Xie decided to keep that secret. It was too shocking and too much for anyone to comprehend right now.
"It's nothing. I'm just curious," Yang Xie said with a grin, brushing off the topic.
The two of them sat in silence for a moment before Yang Xie's stomach rumbled loudly. "Let's go eat. I'm starving. Let me treat you today."
"Boiled exotic beast meat slices, sweet and sour exotic beast spareribs, and farm-style fried exotic beast meat... Thank you. Your total is 2,853 yuan. Will you be paying by card or cash?" the waiter asked, catching Yang Xie off guard.
He had thought that with the 2,000 yuan he had in his pocket, he could afford a nice meal to treat Nangong Ya. But he didn't realize that the meal would cost so much.
Yang Xie's face flushed with embarrassment. He had wanted to treat Nangong Ya, but now he was the one who was broke.
"Never mind, I didn't know it would cost so much. Let me handle it," Nangong Ya said, seeing his discomfort.
Yang Xie's face turned bright red with embarrassment. He had wanted to pay for the meal, but now it seemed he was the one who needed to be saved. He laughed awkwardly, feeling like a failure.
"Next time, I'll treat you. I'll make sure it's a big meal," Yang Xie promised, still trying to salvage the situation.
Nangong Ya smiled warmly. "Don't be so polite. If it weren't for you when I was younger, I might not even be here today."
Her words made Yang Xie feel even more awkward. Was he really just living off her kindness?
Despite his embarrassment, the exotic beast meat tasted delicious. He could feel a powerful energy coursing through his limbs after the meal.
Meanwhile, Nangong Ya ate with an elegant demeanor, though she too indulged in several servings.
Yang Xie patted his stomach and sighed in satisfaction. "That was amazing!"
"Look at you, acting like a bear," Nangong Ya teased, rolling her eyes.
Yang Xie grinned. "Well, it was really good food!"
Suddenly, he felt a rush of warmth in his heart. He quickly changed the subject. "Yaya, tomorrow's my holiday. I'm going to visit my grandma and tell her the good news—I've become an awakener. Are you still planning to practice in the school's training room tomorrow?"
Nangong Ya thought for a moment. "I'll come with you. I haven't seen your grandma in a long time."
"Really? That's great," Yang Xie replied, relieved.
"It's nothing," Nangong Ya said casually. "Besides, the training room at school is far inferior to the one at home. I'll just practice there."
Yang Xie scratched his head, feeling awkward again. "I see... you really are rich."
