Chapter 1 - Old ladies and Mansions

Dark clouds hovered above the city, casting a blanket of darkness over it and blocking the sunlight from above; this created a rather gloomy atmosphere and lukewarm gusts of wind.

It was the middle of the summer as such there shouldn't be any clouds and it should be sunny skies and heat; it was a weird weather phenomenon a few citizens speculated that it was due to the city's location that contributed to this weird weather, being an Island city that is smack dab in the middle of the ocean probably meant some bizarre weather.

"Do you think you can help me, sir?"

An elderly woman with strikingly red hair and incredibly wrinkled skin stood outside what looked to be a Victorian-styled mansion, talking to a young lad who looked no older than his early twenties; the young man had black hair that resembled the night sky and ocean-blue eyes that had iris that swirled almost like a whirlpool.

He was tall, taller than your average youngster, but his looks were average, not exactly handsome but not ugly either. Luckily for him, he had good skin, which worked to his advantage.

"Of course, Madam, I am an expert of experts. Now, just step aside, and I'll exercise the ghost haunting your house. Before that though here"

He pulled out a black business card and handed it to the old lady.

"If you feel any strange aches or pains, just contact the number at the back of that card, and someone will come running to help. Now then, just wait and watch."

He said candidly as he strolled up to the mansion that he had surmised to be the source of the strange weather.

Arriving at the doors, he swung them open and entered the house. There was complete silence as soon as he entered the roaring thunder outside, which could hardly be heard.

"No response, huh?"

"*GROARHHH*

Just then, moments after he had uttered those words, a ginormous and transparent entity suddenly appeared before him and screamed a deafening roar that shook the whole mansion, ectoplasmic saliva dripping from its enlarged mouth, however, the young man was unfazed, barely flinching, only blinking his eyes.

"Quite the unique ghost, aren't you? You don't catch such young ghosts that are as troublesome."

The ghost once again roared to further intimidate him, but the lad simply pulled out a pink book that was decorated with petals from various flowers such as violets, roses, daffodils, and sunflowers.

The book had no title. It was more like a notebook than anything.

"You aren't really going to attack me unless I attack you; if you were just a mindless spirit, you would have possessed that woman outside, not a vengeful/cursed spirit either because you would have killed that woman; she's the only one who lives here."

The young man continued to speak, listing off various types of spirits that the one in front of him wasn't; he did this while he flipped page after page on his book, seemingly searching for something and hardly paying the ghost any mind, and the ghost itself was quite puzzled. All the others that came here either attacked him or fled, so this was quite peculiar.

"You aren't a guardian spirit either because you wouldn't have stayed here while she is outside if you were, so you're just a regular ghost, I don't know why you are haunting this house in particular, mind telling me."

He looked at the ghost directly in the empty holes that would have been its eyes. This ghost was no danger to him.

Poltergeists usually attack intruders the moment they set foot in their territory, yet when he entered, he had enough time to finish his sentence; this meant whatever this ghost was, it wasn't a poltergeist and was just a Casper, or it was a poltergeist, just less violent.

If he is a Casper, then what was going on with the magical power he was sensing?

The ghost floated there silently, puzzled by the young man. He was a strange one that's for sure.

"Want to know why I'm haunting this place?"

.....

"Oh, so you're her dead husband, who died before she moved to this city?"

"Yes, I don't know why I'm here, but I suddenly found myself here 3 months ago. I kept trying to talk to her, but she was always superstitious, so she wouldn't listen."

The ghost explained that the elderly woman outside was his wife; he had died in a fire 7 years before the woman moved to this city.

He also left her his fortune; it seems after a few years of staying on the mainland, she thought of moving here, had this mansion built and everything that was hers moved here, including the dead ashes of her husband.

"Mhm, I see, she's not the one that killed you, correct?"

"No, I died due to an electric fire."

"Well, this makes things a bit interesting. Since you're her husband, you can classify her as a guardian spirit, but for some reason, you aren't bound to her."

He surmised it was certainly an odd situation; guardian spirits are known to be incredibly clingy to their masters, even if the master is aware.

"Can you explain the weather manipulation? If you aren't a spirit native to this land, you shouldn't be able to control its weather. Even if you could, a ghost that is only 7 years old shouldn't possess even a sliver of such power, mind explaining?"

"I don't know either, I don't even have control over that."

"Mhm interesting"

He voiced. It was certainly strange how this ghost was somehow connected to the weather phenomenon yet had no control over it.

He wondered if the house was built over some sort of ley line that's been disturbed; however, if that was the case, the ghost would have been more powerful and capable of controlling the weather, and since it can't, that meant the ghost probably, isn't connected, to strange weather that was happening.

He tucked his flowery book into his jacket

"Well, I'm afraid I will have to get rid of you, sorry about that."

"Wait! Aren't you going to let me speak to my wife?"

Leon ignored the ghost before his hands began to glow in a purple light and then discharged a beam of energy that lit up the entire room successfully getting rid of the ghost and scorched the floorboards.

"Sorry, but no"

He said to the ghost he just exorcised. For the most part, if he was another person, he may have let the ghost talk to his wife, but what use would that be? It's been seven years, she's already got her closure, and there was hardly a need to open up old wounds.

Besides, he was at least 90% sure the ghost wasn't really the husband of the old woman. After all, there have been 3 more exorcists that were sent here but were unable to kill the ghost.

"I wonder what's causing the weather, tho?"

He asked curiously. If it really was a disturbed line, then he couldn't really do anything about it, and he would have to just let it stabilise eventually.

He turned and took a step to exit the house.

*BOOM!!*

Suddenly, he was thrown back by a force that caused him to crash onto the stairs of the mansion. The double doors of the house opened wide and entered a young woman with strikingly vibrant red hair.

"Greenhorns like you always fall for the old lady with a haunted house trick"

She spoke; her earlier appearance was nowhere to be seen; her wrinkles were gone, replaced by the smooth and succulent skin of a young woman in her late twenties, and her figure was slim, with thick thighs and modest breasts.

"You fucking idiot, you should have seen that coming!!"
