The city was named Salt City mostly due to the fact it was an island city surrounded by salt water. Its location was on a large piece of land, an island just outside the continent of Europe, and was a territory of the United Kingdom.
The city was founded about 20 years ago, in the year 2002; it was an attempt by the government to create a city made for tourism; however, the UK government abandoned the idea halfway due to costs and because the island itself had nothing special about it plus nobody was willing to move there.
After about 3 years, a few rich people bought the land and decided to revive the abandoned place as a private island away from the riff-raff.
However, these same rich people decided to try to make it into a fully functioning city, an attempt they succeeded in doing and thus created Salt City.
The rich individuals responsible for the revival of the city were the Sky family, The Silver Family, and the Versa family.
These 3 families spent a portion of their fortunes to make Salt City what it is today.
Their original goal was to make it a place where only the rich and wealthy could live and to an extent, they succeeded in doing that.
Unfortunately, that didn't last long as the government couldn't allow a single group to form a city exclusive to the wealthy; as such, various types of people were allowed into the city.
The three families may have bought the city but the entire island still belonged to the government of the United Kingdom.
Salt City still holds a certain standard, and the 3 original families that founded it hold great power; the government allowed them to hold political power equivalent to that of a mayor, and all 3 families run the city as a sort of council.
Any changes that need to be made to the city will need all 3 families to approve them, though they still need to answer to the mainland government; however, with their wealth, they can do as they please.
With such power over an entire city, these 3 families sought to make a profit and gain back the money lost when the city was purchased, and thus, they allowed various other people to conduct their business in the city; of course, this also included less than legal businesses.
That, in turn, transformed the city into a dangerous location with carefully controlled crime to ensure that chaos doesn't run rampant across the city.
Selina drove silently in the open road, the headlights illuminated her way as she leisurely drove her car on the empty road on her way home.
The streets were empty and the only cars she saw were parked outside. Normally, at this time of night, she would be going for a joy ride outside the city to enjoy herself along with her boyfriend; however, right now, she wasn't feeling particularly in the mood.
She was coming back from Arthur's house and wanted to have a talk with her father about the marriage.
She tightened her grip on the steering wheel and her expressionless face frowned as thoughts about the arranged marriage surfaced in her mind. Her anger slowly rose, and her foot stepped on the accelerator increasing the speed of the car.
"Like hell, I'm marrying that guy."
She spoke; her vehement refusal was more about the lack of choice she was being given than it was about love.
If her father had simply said she had to befriend Leon and then slowly become more than friends, she wouldn't be against that after she already has a boyfriend so to her Leon wouldn't be anything more than a friend but no, that wasn't the case her father demanded she marry him and she wasn't going to do that.
"Never!"
She expressed her thoughts; Selina understands that telling someone that you would do something and then not doing it makes you untrustworthy and non-dependable; however, she didn't care.
She wasn't someone who valued her freedom to the point that she'd rather die if it meant she didn't have a choice; after all, she was willing to take over the company as an heiress, despite wanting to be a model.
She was trying to get a business degree even though she didn't want it, but she understood she couldn't let someone else take her father's company and that it was the legacy of her entire family, so she knew what her duty was.
She may not want those things, but she chose them; she made a conscious choice of her own will.
In the matter of the arranged marriage, her father denied her that and spoke with finality as if everything was already a foregone conclusion, and she didn't agree with that.
She turned the car to the left swiftly at an intersection without slowing down, completely disregarding the idea of a car crash. The tires screeched, creating a deafening noise that woke those who were asleep in their homes and causing Selina to realize that she may be going a little bit too fast.
The car slowed down as she worked on calming her anger, a deep inhale followed by a quick exhale, a quick inhale followed by a slow exhale; repeating the process, she calmed herself, and her tight grip on the steering wheel loosened.
As her anger subsided her thoughts changed from being mad at her father to being curious about Leon.
"He definitely has a screw loose or something."
She spoke to herself once more, A person who jumps off a cliff to prove a point was certainly insane.
There are various ways he could have had her believe that he was going to jump without jumping, in fact, Leon could have stood there at the edge and told her to push and that would have told her that he was willing to jump on while also knowing she wouldn't have the balls to do push him.
Would the fact that he jumped mean he does love her? After all, he did jump off a cliff to prove that he does.
"Humph! Hardly, the fucker just has a lot of balls, that's all, and maybe a little bit retarded."
She convinced herself of those words, however, despite her refusal to acknowledge what he did as an act done out of love, she could not help but wonder if her current boyfriend would jump off a cliff for her.
"Would he?"
Curiosity was plastered across her face as she began to wonder. Arthur had been very supportive of her when she thought she had caused that idiot to kill himself, and he went so far as to erase all evidence of the crime.
No person who doesn't love you would do that, so that must mean he loves her, although erasing evidence could just mean he doesn't want to be incriminated, so it's not exactly an act of love.
'Would he…'
She did not finish that thought and shook her head to get rid of it.
"No, don't be ridiculous, even if he could, why would I want him to?"
She shook her head further, trying to get those thoughts out of her head. She was being foolish, and besides, Arthur had nothing to prove; she had faith that he loved her, so it was fine.
"Wait a minute, how did he survive?"
She asked as the sudden realization hit, the cliff he jumped off from was quite steep, absolutely no way would be simply walk away with a broken leg and fractured ribs
Unfortunately, her thoughts were interrupted as she took a glance at her rearview mirror and spotted a rather suspicious car tailing her.
"Shit! Better get home"
She sped up her car, as she realized that she may have attracted unwanted attention; luckily, she was already quite close to home, so her tail probably won't get the chance to do anything.
'Sometimes I forget where I am'
