Chereads / The Realm Of Horrors: Arrival Of Malice! / Chapter 6 - The Withered Clover.

Chapter 6 - The Withered Clover.

BOOM!!

The howl of the intense gale eerily resounded throughout the dark forest, followed by streaks of cold lightning that often yet rapidly traversed throughout the expanse of the gloomy sky—illuminating the drenched ground with black and white from time to time...

Making the scene below more desolate and empty, giving a deep sensation of wickedness that couldn't be explained by a few words.

On the horizon, in the lone mansion in the center of the forest—decaying and slowly being forgotten by the passage of time—the character's terrified figure on the second floor can be seen staring in the short distance blankly, body trembling as its rapid breathing can be heard faintly.

Its hand, although trembling, can be discerned gripping the candle with force as it stares at the corpse in the short distance with despair.

Following that, the faint sound of disturbing gnawing, originating from the corpse body, echoed in Clark's ears, making his skin crawl in horror.

No, calling it a corpse isn't right; in fact, only some piece of decaying flesh still remains on its bony corpse, slowly being consumed by countless wriggling maggots that spread throughout the ground...

While on top of the bones and decaying flesh, the sound of buzzing and occasional squeaking, originating from countless flies and rats, can be heard—surely feasting with the remaining flesh.

Just staring at the dim screen of the old phone, Clark could already imagine the disgusting scent emitting within the surroundings of the character, causing his stomach to churn slightly, already feeling his dinner slowly rising from his esophagus to his throat, ready to puke in any second.

Gulp-

Tasting the unfamiliar yet familiar flavor of bland vomit in his mouth, Clark instantly covered his mouth with his hand, gripping his old phone before hurriedly standing up from his comfortable posture—planning to go to the bathroom but only to suddenly halt his movement.

There, he silently stared at the slightly ajar door of the bathroom in the distance that was being shrouded in complete darkness while creating a faint creaking sound due to unknown influence.

"This...'

For the first, although he wasn't keen on overthinking, he seemed to see someone beyond the bathroom door, causing him to shudder and forcefully gulp the vomit in his mouth before grasping the old phone with his right hand.

Trembling while opening its flashlight before pointing it in the direction of the bathroom.

...

Swish~

"D*mn! Playing this game seems like a mistake of mine!"

Seeing the towel swaying slightly beyond the slightly ajar bathroom, being illuminated by a flashlight, Clark couldn't help but curse inwardly, patting his chest before cleaning the lingering flavor within his mouth with water.

After that, he directly slumped to the bed, gazing at the dim screen that was still showing the decaying flesh in the short distance with hesitation, wanting to quit the game, yet his curiosity made him hesitant.

While he was hesitating whether to continue the game or not, some of the white maggots scattered through the damp ground began to wiggle in his direction, watching them slither to the character's feet before slowly crawling upward, causing Clark's skin to wriggle as he could already imagine its sensation.

"This is just a game; there's no need to be afraid.'

Placating his mind, Clark gritted his teeth before controlling the character, taking a deep breath before starting to approach the corpse in the short distance…understanding that there might be something useful within the corpse.

Squelch~ Squelch—

On the way, although he tried his best to avoid the wriggling maggots scattered across the floor in disgust, he still accidentally stepped on some of them, creating crisp, crushing sounds as their fat flesh splattered under the shoes of the character—fusing with the thick liquid originating from decaying flesh of the corpse and the droplets of rain entering through the balcony, making them more sticky in the process.

"They didn't even blur the deaths of the maggots; they really look realistic."

Taking a deep breath, Clark forced himself to look at the corpse in the dim screen even though he felt repulsive—starting to control the character to search the tattered clothes of the corpse while staring at the maggots that were unceasingly gnawing on the corpse's remaining flesh...

Watching them wiggle with fervor, making him gulp instinctively.

Click!

After a moment, when the nauseating sensation was again starting to appear, a faint sound of clicking suddenly echoed from the left hand of the character, causing Clark's eyes to light up before retrieving his hand abruptly.

There, in the left hand of the character, Clark discerns a four-leaf clover encased by glass, followed by the scene of a long, yet thin, centipede crawling, coiling around the character's hand and fingers tightly, making Clark's eyes shrink visibly.

Hisss!

Seeing this, Clark couldn't help but yelp in shock; his heart raced rapidly before hurriedly controlling the character to remove the clinging centipede from its hand, waving it violently as the centipede soon flew in the distance...

Vanishing under his frightened gaze.

"False alarm; however, the sudden appearance of the centipede was quite scary."

Heaving a sigh of relief, Clark then observed the encased four-leaf clover in the screen, his eyes carrying confusion as he was unable to understand the function of the item within the corpse.

Fortunately, after staring at the item for a few seconds, a text, containing the description of the four-leaf clover, popped up on the dim screen, causing Clark's brows to perk up in surprise.

"An inferior four-leaf clover?"

[ Inferior Four Leaf Clover: An item blessed with luck. It could increase the grade of ordinary items by 1, making their effectiveness and durability increase considerably. ]

Ding!

[ It's detected that the "Thick Candle and a Match" item was eligible for the upgrade.

Would you use the "Inferior Four Leaf Clover" to upgrade the said item? (Accept/Decline)? ]

"I see, so that was the case."

Nodding his head slightly, Clark, without any hesitation, instantly clicked the accept button, immediately causing the encased item within the character's hand to release a weak glow, turning into a speck of lights that quickly fused with the thick candle and match in the other hand of the character, making the two items flicker with a faint glow.

[ Congratulations upon upgrading the "Thick Candle and a Match" to "Thick Candle and a Match +1." ]

"This, that's it?"
