Chapter 41: The Betrayal
Ethan's eyes widened as he read the message again. Samantha? The mole? It couldn't be. He had trusted her with his life.
But as he thought back to their conversations, he realized that Samantha had been acting strange lately. She had been distant, preoccupied.
Rachel's eyes locked onto his. "What is it?" she asked.
Ethan hesitated, unsure of what to say. But then he showed her the message.
Rachel's expression turned grim. "We need to confront her," she said.
They found Samantha in a small café on the outskirts of town. She looked up as they approached, a mixture of guilt and fear on her face.
"Ethan, I..." she started.
But Ethan cut her off. "You're the mole," he accused.
Samantha nodded, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "They threatened to hurt my family if I didn't cooperate."
Ethan felt a wave of anger wash over him. But as he looked at Samantha, he saw the desperation in her eyes.
"We'll protect your family," he promised. "But you need to tell us everything."
Samantha nodded, taking a deep breath. "It's worse than you think," she said. "The Syndicate has a plan to take control of the entire city."
Ethan's eyes locked onto Rachel's. They had to stop The Syndicate, no matter what it took.
To be continued.
