Chapter 20 - ch-20

On the screen——

[Charmeleon glows blue.]

[Its body gradually expands, and a pair of wings sprout from its back.]

[When the light of evolution dissipates, a Charizard appears before everyone's eyes.]

[It has an orange body, a cream-colored belly, cyan eyes, and a pair of massive wings. The flame burning on its tail is even more vigorous than it was during the Charmeleon stage!]

Charizard, the Fire Pokémon!

It flaps its wings and soars high in the sky, flying around in search of powerful rivals. Charizard can reach altitudes of up to 1,400 meters.

Charizard spits scorching flames that can melt nearly anything, tormenting its enemies. These flames are so intense they can even burn through rock and occasionally cause forest fires.

When Charizard releases its fiery breath, the flames at the tip of its tail burn even more fiercely!

The audience was stunned by the sudden evolution.

"No way… it evolved just like that?"

"But isn't this a bit rushed? Hahaha. It only evolved because Aerodactyl taunted it for not being able to fly!"

"Yeah, it just wanted to fly. That's all there is to it."

"But I thought Charmeleon would evolve after a hard battle at Cinnabar Island against Blaine's powerful Pokémon."

"Exactly! I imagined Charmeleon would train hard after losing to Blaine, challenge him again, and finally evolve during an intense battle against Blaine's ace Pokémon. After that, it would win the Volcano Badge in a dramatic comeback."

"That would've been a classic storyline, haha!"

"Isn't that just the typical 'passionate protagonist' plot?"

"True, but Ash's Charizard doesn't follow the rules. The way it evolved from a simple taunt is hilarious."

"Well, it's fine this way. Evolving into Charizard means it has entered the ranks of strong Pokémon!"

The audience cheered for Ash and his newly evolved Charizard.

Champion's Guest Seat, Palace Gate Stadium——

"This… it evolved just like that??"

Lance was stunned, a bit taken aback.

He had expected Ash's Charmeleon to undergo more battles and training before evolving.

After all, evolving from Charmander to Charmeleon is relatively easy.

But evolving from Charmeleon to Charizard?

That requires significant combat experience!

If evolution happens too easily, it might lead to deformed evolution.

If that's the case...

Charizard's potential could be greatly diminished.

In the future, it might struggle to join the ranks of truly strong Pokémon.

Team Rocket Headquarters——

"Forced evolution?"

Proton sneered.

Evolution can indeed grant Pokémon immense power in an instant.

But forced evolution often comes at a cost.

For instance, a newly born Growlithe can evolve into an Arcanine on the same day with a Fire Stone.

But...

An Arcanine that evolves without any foundational training will have a low strength ceiling. It's unlikely to break through its limitations.

That's why Pokémon like Dragonite, Metagross, Salamence, and Garchomp are called "late bloomers."

Their early stages focus on building a strong foundation, maximizing their stats at each level.

When they finally evolve, they become truly powerful Pokémon.

But forced evolution?

Even Pokémon with Elite potential could fall to the level of Gym Trainers.

Proton smirked.

"Now that the brat's Charmeleon has been forced to evolve... its future potential is capped. It won't enter the ranks of the strong."

The scene continues——

[After evolving into Charizard, it begins flapping its wings to chase Aerodactyl, who had taunted it.]

[During the chase, Jigglypuff appears.]

[A soothing melody fills the air, and Aerodactyl becomes drowsy. It loosens its grip, causing Ash to fall from the sky.]

[At the last moment, Charizard—despite its rebellious nature—catches Ash and safely returns him to the ground.]

[Meanwhile, Aerodactyl, now unconscious, falls back into the cave, and the cave entrance collapses.]

[To protect the fossil Pokémon, Officer Jenny and Ash decide to tell everyone that the events were just a dream caused by Jigglypuff's singing. This ensures the ancient Pokémon can sleep peacefully.]

The audience at Palace Gate Stadium——

"Hahaha, so funny! Charizard evolved just to twirl around with Aerodactyl in the sky!"

"That wasn't a Fire Blast—it was a medium-sized blast, and then a small one!"

"From 120 power to 60, then to 30? Haha!"

"But that Seismic Toss at the end was amazing. Final-stage Pokémon really are something else."

The audience cheered for Charizard, marveling at how strong it had become.

The video continues——

[Ash's first battle at the Cinnabar Gym ends in failure. To defeat the powerful Trainer Blaine and overcome the harsh lava environment of the gym, Ash realizes he needs a strong Fire-type Pokémon.]

[Initially, Charizard refuses to help. But upon seeing Blaine's Magmar, its competitive spirit ignites, and it agrees to fight.]

[What follows is a one-on-one battle between Charizard and Magmar.]

The champions watching the video noticed something troubling.

Charizard was undoubtedly strong.

But...

It seemed disobedient and rebellious.

This behavior could hinder its growth.

The strength of a Trainer's Pokémon comes not just from power, but also from the bond between Trainer and Pokémon.

Without trust and cooperation, even a strong Pokémon would struggle to reach its full potential.
