Chapter 1 - Born in flesh

They were born in flesh.

They woke up in darkness, only being able to feel their body moving. Their first desire was for food. Hunger overwhelming them, they scrounged around with their arms to find anything to eat.

Running their hands along the ground, faint crawling was felt, it being a line of ants. Not yet being fully conscious of their existence yet, their urge to eat overwhelmed the rationality of eating ants.

Grabbing a handful of ants, they brought it to the opening in their head, stuffing it inside.

The crawling of ants, and the feeling of life must have triggered something inside them. Sight was brought upon them, and they surveyed their body.

[minor sight obtained]

Flesh. Staring down at their hands and lower body, red meat laced with white fat was all they could see. Despite their limited knowledge, they knew they were wrong as a being.

Their form was that of a skinny humanoid. As they became more aware, they felt a heart beating, and organs churning inside.

Rubbing their hands over their body, they felt that they also had eyes with no lids, a nose with no holes, and a mouth without lips. A peculiar sight.

Looking up from their body, they surveyed the room. It was almost pitch black. They could understand more with their hands than their eyes, making it difficult to navigate.

The limited night vision that they had gave them little to no help. The dark and creepy atmosphere unsettled them.

They used their voice, an attempt to call out to anything possibly in the dungeon.

Using it for the first time, all they could mutter out was a loud "Heeeurgh!!!!!!!!"

The utterance echoed through the dungeon, indicating that they were along for the moment.

Gaining the strength to stand up, they brought their legs beneath them. Walking seemingly came intuitively. They seemed to have an intellectual understanding of their body, and enough innate knowledge to interpret the world around them.

Washing their hands over the cold stone walls, they attempted to find anything at all.

After a second, they felt a mushy glob on the wall. Pressing it between their fingers, it appeared to be full of liquid. Attempting to use a new sense, they smelled it, bringing a filthy scent to their nose. A mixture of rotten food, putrid gas, and flesh awaited.

Resorting to the primitive act of consumption, they brought it to their lips, biting it. Eating was all they could think of.

The taste was expectedly foul. The foul liquid contained in the sac flooded the mouth of the thing, leaking down its face. They couldn't help but vomit. Leaning against the wall, they tried to distract themselves from their horrible decisions by continuing to fumble around the walls.

After a minute or so, a faint noise was heard in the distance as they were skating their hands on the wall.

plop, plop, plop

They heard a disgusting noise. It was clearly from a living organism. The sound carried a cadence of being wet and heavy. Inside that heavy sound, it was clear that it was slow and large.

Listening deeply, it was clear that the thing was coming closer. Now detaching from the wall, hoping to find comfort in a new object, they reached out their arms, now walking into the dark center of the room.

After a combination of fumbling around the large room, and following the plopping noises, eventually they reached..... something.

Reaching out, a squelching sound came out as they came in contact with something smooth and slimy. Whatever it was, it was cold and wriggling. They deduced that it was an arm.

[contact with complex life, speech evoked]

Feeling it natural, they attempted to vocalize what they thought appropriate.

"H---h--he-hello?" They managed to utter.

A gurgling noise emerging from the life form was the only thing that awaited them. The wriggling of the arm that they were holding continued, but the organism now seemed to recognize that it was in contact with another living thing.

Sensing no harm yet, they put both hands on the arm, but then they felt something wet against the back of their leg. Another arm was reaching out, attempting to entangle their leg.

Now, feeling uncomfortable with the newfound contact, they attempted to step back as to approach the being from a different method. But the organism didn't yield. The arm around the leg now tightened, and the arm they were touching was now wrapping around their arm.

It was definite that whatever the beast had in mind was not going to be good for them. Feeling the whole body of the beast moving closer, they managed to sneak a glimpse of the face of the beast.

It was a vaguely humanoid beast, yet it had no proper body shape beyond having definite arms, legs, and a head. It was a fat blob of flesh and muscle. The skin of the beast was tinted sickly yellow, and covered in sacs of pus, clearly the sac that they had previously mistakenly consumed. The face of the beast, if you even could call it a face, was grotesque. It consisted of flaps of fatty flesh, with two beady eyes peering out of one of the folds. Looking for a mouth that would be their potential destination, they noticed no clear mouth, except for a hole in its belly that oozed a dark green liquid.

It was clear that if they didn't act, they would end up finding out what that hole was for. Their adrenaline was kicking in, and they prepared a punch for it's face that would give them the opportunity to regroup.

Using as much as their strength as they could, they brought their fist swiftly into the face of the beast. The fatty mass of the creature didn't seem to budge, making a squelch sound. The mass simply seemed to mold around the fist, as if trying to swallow it.

Now flailing around, they moved around their body erratically in order to hopefully find anything to use as a weapon in the room.

As their free foot scanned the floor frantically, it suddenly felt a mild pain as it touched something. Feeling around, it was a rough rock that was loose in the ground. Seeing it as the only opportunity for escape, they quickly reached down to grab the rough rock, hoping to use it as a weapon.
