The room had some light. The room was relatively bare, being of a meager size compared to the previous room. It was about 30 paces out to get to the other side, and 15 paces across. The walls were the same, damp dark stone of the previous room. The most notable thing in the room was a black pedestal in the middle.
The pedestal had detailed engravings on it, but what caught their attention was a small, portable light laying on top of it. Not paying attention to the details of the pedestal, they grabbed the light.
[Small portable light obtained]
"Clank!"
Picking up the light source, in his excitement he knocked some objects loose onto the ground. Now having a tool to examine objects more closely, they noticed that the bottom of the room was ridden with bones of multiple sorts. They felt stupid for not noticing the obviously copious amount of bones on the ground.
They then leaned down to examine the bones. There were bones of all kinds on the ground. Some obviously human, some resembled vaguely the bones of various mammals. He decided that he had no use for the bones now, so he pushed them to the side, reserving them for a possible future use.
[bone pile obtained]
Checking around all the walls, an object caught their eye. It was a metal chest. The chest was in the shape of a rectangular prism. It appeared to have once been shiny before the general grime of the dungeon got to it, covering it in vague sludge and filth.
They looked at the chest, attempting to find a mechanism to open it. It had a seam, but no obvious way to lift it open easily. They first tried to pull it open from the seam. They lifted with all of their strength, but no matter how much they tried, it wasn't enough. The metal of the chest was simply to heavy for them.
Wanting to open the chest, yet not being strong enough, they decided to try to implement their trusty rock. Brining the rock up once again, they crashed it into the chest, to attempt to dent it.
The chest offered nothing, not even a dent. The chest stayed strong, showing no signs of being able to be opened.
"I'll come back to it later, there's probably some kind of mechanism somewhere to open it." They thought.
Now going back to the pedestal, they examined it more clearly. It was made of a different kind of stone than the rest of the dungeon. The stone was a deep black, and despite the disgusting nature of the rest of the dungeon, the pedestal seemed kept in pristine condition. The top of the altar had a flat plane, they deduced that it was a kind of altar. The rest of the dungeon felt kind of cult-y so it was a logical conclusion.
"Maybe it needs me to sacrifice something to let me do something new?" They thought.
Going back to the first room, they scoured the room for the parts of the beast that weren't digested. When they reached it, they weren't left with much. All that was left was some deformed bones, and a couple oily organs.
Disgusted with the organs, they gently picked them up, and brought them to the altar. The organs were something that vaguely resembled a heart, and an eye.
[Gross heart and eye obtained?]
Bringing the organs over left a faint trail of slime on the cold floor.
Reaching the pedestal again, they plopped the organs on top of the shiny black surface.
Nothing happened, the room is silent except for a slow drip of water coming from the ceiling.
"I don't know what I thought, I guess if it's for a demon or a god or something, it doesn't want these organs. Can't blame them, they're kind of gross." They thought, now wiping the organs off the altar.
Looking for anything else in the room, through the dim light coming from the ceiling they saw a faint carving on the wall opposite the chest.
The carving appears to depict a robed figure wearing a hood. The carving is crude, clearly carved by someone with little to no artistic talent. The proportions were strange, and the details on the face were bad. But the most noticeable aspect of the engraving was the strange pose that they mans arms were in.
The figure's left arm had the part of its arm above the elbow held tight to the shoulder. The hand facing the sky, was pointing upwards with its ring finger and pinky finger pointing towards the sky.
The figure's right arm was brought to the left side of the body, having the portion above the elbow pointing straight up. The hand formed a circle with all of the fingers with the exception of the pointer finger, which was pointing left. The circle was put on the left eye, almost as a mini monocle.
The strange pose the figure was in almost made them laugh.
Having nothing better to do, they attempted to contort their body to replicate the pose. Their body was relatively flexible, giving them the ability to pose freely.
Forming the pose, they sensed a faint energy in the room.
"Click"
Assuming it was the chest, they moved over to the chest, attempting to open it again. No luck, the chest was still locked. Instead, they directed their attention to the far wall of the room. Examining it, they noticed that it had a small indent that wasn't present before. Sticking their hand in, they now found that they were able to push it in.
Pushing it in, they had high expectations. Maybe it would open the chest, maybe it would be a door to the outside.
Waiting a second, they then felt the end of the door starting to move. The portion of the wall that was on the side of the room the chest fell down with a loud slam, providing a slim passage into a new room. Excited for a new room, but also nervous about what it could contain, they approached the passage with a sense of caution.
They clutched their stone close to their heart.
