When we were returning from another successful hunt within the forest we saw the village in the distance but something was wrong, there was black smoke rising up and voices being carried by the wind.
The four of us looked to one another before nodding and rushing off to see what was up.
When we got back to the village we were in for a shock.
Our peaceful village lives after living for eight years was broken by an oncoming band of brigands.
My appraisal skill showed them to be [Bandit]s with levels ranging from five to twenty, and the one at their head was a level 12 [Bandit leader] the villagers had taken up makeshift arms to repel the invaders, but really only us four had proper weapons amonst the populace, and so as the bandits charged forward, the villagers joined as well, and before anyone knew it, four children had charged like bloodthirsty gnomes hacking and slashing away at the legs of the assaulting bad guys.
The village should have been in the worse state with only the Senior Villagers and Village leader being able to put up an adequate fight while the other would try to suppress by number alone, but with the joining of us four, three levelled up swordsmen, and a single four job me the battle was almost on easy mode.
Hack
Slash
"By blade and spark, let shadows flash,
Cleave the air—unleash the [Slash]"
Argh
"What the hells up with these crazy kids!"
"Run Away argh!"
"D-demons!"
After only lasting for tens of minutes the bandit forces had been cut down in a massive way and after I dealt the fatal blow decapitating the leader the remaining bandit forces turned tail and ran away at full speed for their lives.
The village didn't get away completely unscathed as a few injuries would result in amputations lest a healer be called forth, and even a few of the men had fallen in combat before we four could bring the fight to an end, but still each of us had gotten at least two kills.
sister was now dealing with the shock of what she had just done even if it was to protect everyone else, while my brothers were revelling in the praise they received form the adults for the valiant defense.
I on the other hand just stood off to the side, years of killing things had put me in the mindset to do what needed to be done, but killing monsters, and humans were different things and while I hadn't been as bothered as sister became I was still shaken perhaps once the thrill wore off my brothers would be the same.
But that night even as a we were still being hailed as heroes as I checked out my status I noticed a big jump.
[Nameless]
Job: Swordsman Lvl 16 | Villager Lvl 34 | Senior Villager Lvl 10 |Farmer Level 27
Special Points: 0 Ability: [Reset] | Appraisal | Party | Party Customization | 4th Job | Exp x10 | 1/10 Exp | Critical Chance Up 15% | Sword 2
Sure we had still been hunting rabbit monsters but since the last time i'd checked my status each of my jobs jumped at least five levels just from this one fight.
Meaning 20 new special points!
And that wasn't all, looking at my available jobs, I now had a new one available and with a rather pale face I turned to look at my siblings and checked their jobs as well only to find all four of us now had the [Hero] job.
We had only dealt with [Bandit]s why are we [Heroes]?
Well it works out in the end I suppose, as stong as they are they cannot forever remain in this village but I also don't wish to get caught up in the whole heroes party thing, so I'll continue to help them increase their levels, such that the three of them will be safe to carryon without me, but only one of them should be a hero, while the other two will need to unlock more suitable jobs before the awakening happens.
But at the same time the draw to get more power was calling to me, Humans netted far greater experience gains than [White Fur Rabbits] did though there was something stopping me from just going full psychopath, mainly the fact that committing murder would turn you into a 'bad' job class without your consent since you had violated the gods taboos, even theft could do the same, but while you could be forgiven for theft, murder was unforgivable.
We were free this time to kill the bandits due to their own bad job classes, but also because it was fine to act in self defense.
Knowing what I did, I committed my first crime as a person of this world simply just stealing a simple set of sandels from the entrance way of a villaers home during the celebration only to apologize and give them back the next day, of course I did get the chance to undergo the rite early as a result, which led me to panicly return my primary job to villager.
No need to stand out anymore than I already do afterall.
But after admitting to the 'accidental' theft, the 'victim' brought me before the village chief who used a chanted spell.
"Truth in name, truth in seal, Reveal the mark, let fate be real [Reveal ID Card]"
And before I knew it a playing card like thing rose up from the back of my dominant hand, the village chief took it before giving the card a glance and then pushing it back into my hand.
"No need to worry, no offence was taken to the gods, his heart remains pure."
The villager nodded and released me, before accepting my apology and leaving me as the village chief returned to his own work.
Luckily I could change my own job.
Using that spell they could see what my current job was, and well if it was a 'bad' job I would be reduced to being a slave and sold off to the city with my selling price being split between the village and my 'victim' but since to their eyes I had not offended the gods I was saved from this fate but now I had the Theif job sitting idle in my selection
Thanks to the battle with the bandits I still had thirty-eight spare points, and well I only needed another thirty-two to get both exp's up to the next rank furthering our growth.
leaving six points remaining.
Four more to get 5th job.
leaving three remaining, as I gained one more for having Thief Lvl 1.
So to save my own sanity I chose [Chant Removal] which allowed me to use Job spells while only needing to speak the skill allowed rather than chanting at all.
