The laughter and chaos of the first raffle left an air of anticipation in Buenaventura. The villagers, still giggling from the shower of tennis balls and the parade of ducks, began to talk about what was to come next. Meanwhile, Rufus and Luna, determined to move on from their last fiasco, gathered in the woods with other werewolves to discuss their next event: the Bone Throwing Competition.
"It can't go wrong this time!" Rufus proclaimed, drawing in the dirt with a branch. "Luck can't go wrong with a good bone throw. We just need the perfect bone!"
"But, Rufus, what if the bone turns into a flying duck again?" Luna asked, a mix of worry and excitement in her voice.
"That would be great, but no, no, this time I promise we'll use real bones, not stuffed ones," Rufus insisted, as the other werewolves nodded, though some were clearly dubious.
Kazuma, who had been listening from a safe distance, couldn't help but chime in. "Real bones? What's next, a garlic head tossing contest? This is getting absurd already," he commented, stretching his body as if preparing for an act of resistance.
"Don't underestimate the importance of tradition, friend!" said a wolf named Fenrir, who seemed to have an inexplicable passion for bone tossing. "This is an event that brings good fortune... or so I heard at a werewolf meeting," he added, blinking seriously.
"You mean that meeting where it was decided that werewolves should wear top hats instead of bone necklaces?" Aqua replied, crossing her arms in a dismissive gesture. "Because I don't think that worked out very well."
"Silence, please! We're here to plan the competition!" shouted Rufus, trying to regain everyone's attention. "We need a jury, and of course, prizes. Fancy prizes, like lucky charms!"
"And what are we going to do with those charms? Give them out to the losers as a reminder of their failure?" Kazuma asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Exactly!" said Rufus, excited. "That way everyone will have something to remember, and maybe it will bring them more luck in the future."
The competition was announced throughout the village, and the intrigued villagers crowded the square on the day of the event. Rufus, wearing his top hat, positioned himself as the master of ceremonies, while Luna, wearing a colorful headband, tried to keep order.
"Welcome to the Buenaventura Bone Throwing Competition!" shouted Rufus, barely containing his excitement. "The contestants will have to throw these bones across the square. Whoever manages to go the furthest will win a fabulous lucky charm!"
As the contestants lined up, Kazuma couldn't help but feel that this was going to be a monumental disaster. "If anything can go wrong, it will," he muttered, watching a nervous villager holding a massive beef bone.
The first round began, and upon tossing the bone, the villager earned a deafening round of applause... but in his excitement, the bone bounced off the ground and landed straight on the head of the poor old man who had won the amulet in the previous raffle. "Not again!" the old man shouted, as screams of laughter filled the air.
Luna, trying to be helpful, decided to participate. She got into position, raising her bone with all the strength she could muster. But instead of tossing it, she tripped and rolled forward, sending the bone flying in a random direction. The bone landed on a popcorn cart, unleashing a shower of flying corn that covered everyone in attendance.
"This is crazy!" Kazuma exclaimed, laughing loudly. "I never thought luck could be so… explosive."
Meanwhile, Aqua joined the competition, but instead of throwing a bone, she decided to cast a spell that, in theory, should improve everyone's luck. "Hang in there, this is going to be spectacular!" she shouted, raising her wand. But, in a comical twist, the spell backfired and ended up turning the bone into a chicken that flew away.
The event descended into absolute chaos, with chickens flying, corn flying through the air, and villagers laughing uproariously at the madness that "good luck" had unleashed. As the sun set over Buenaventura,
Rufus, the boldest of the werewolves, had heard humans talk about luck as if it were a mystical art. Together with his friend Luna, a wolf with a heart of gold but incomparable clumsiness, they came up with a plan to change the town's perception of them. If people believed that werewolves brought good luck, perhaps they could leave their reputation as monsters behind and become town heroes.
But, as often happens with the best intentions, their plans took an unexpected turn. Instead of bringing fortune, their attempts to help resulted in a series of absurd events: from disastrous raffles that ended in storms of tennis balls, to bone-throwing competitions that turned into a spectacle of chaos. Thus, Rufus called himself "the lucky werewolf," and Luna, with her unusual charm, tried to be the "lucky mascot." However, their efforts only led to the townspeople feeling threatened, claiming that werewolves could never be bringers of good fortune.
Desperate to prove themselves, Rufus and Luna decided to embark on an adventure. They would leave the village, travel from town to town, and prove that werewolves could be heroes, despite their bad luck. But first, they needed a plan: to find a home where they could rest from their madness.
Chapter 3: The Werewolf House
With a sigh of resignation, Rufus and Luna left the town of Buenaventura, while the townspeople looked at them with disdain. The idea of becoming adventurers excited them, but the burden of their bad luck was a weight they carried on their shoulders.
"How about we start at the adventurer's guild?" suggested Rufus, while shaking the dust off his gray fur.
"Yes!" exclaimed Luna, jumping for joy. "There we will find new friends and maybe even a home!"
Both werewolves entered the forest, where the trees seemed to murmur warnings about what was to come. Upon arriving at the guild, they encountered a mix of eccentric characters: a muscular warrior who spoke with his sword, a mage who only did explosion magic, and a knight who felt more comfortable with a scarecrow than with a battle partner.
"Welcome, new adventurers!" shouted an old man with a long beard, who seemed to be the leader of the guild. "What is your mission?"
Rufus cleared his throat, trying to sound heroic.
"We are here to prove that werewolves bring good luck!"
The old man frowned, and the other adventurers began to murmur. Luna, nervous, decided to intervene.
"And we also want a house!" she said, with a smile that instead of reassuring, made a couple of adventurers fall to the ground, scared.
Rufus and Luna were feeling a bit discouraged, but decided to work on small quests to earn their place in the guild and, with a bit of luck (or rather, bad luck), get a home.
Their first quest was to help an apple seller who had lost his cart in the woods. Upon arriving, Rufus tripped on a root and, in a comical twist, ended up rolling down the hill, taking a stash of apples with him. Meanwhile, Luna, in trying to help, ended up trapped in the cart, causing it to tip over and apples to fly into the air.
The villagers, seeing the chaos that was unleashed, began to laugh. Instead of being scared, they were relieved to see that these werewolves, although clumsy, were harmless and, in fact, funny.
"Look!" one of the villagers shouted. "These werewolves are quite a sight! They may not bring good luck, but they do make us laugh."
So, as Rufus and Luna stood up covered in apples, the villagers began to applaud. Although their attempts at being heroes seemed disastrous, perhaps the perception of werewolves was beginning to change.
"This is just the beginning," said Rufus, smiling at his friend. "Soon we will be the best adventurers in the region!"
With their bad luck as a companion, Rufus and Luna set out on the next adventure, convinced that laughter could be the key to turning bad fortune into something wonderful.
The life of adventurers was just beginning, and with each stumble, they came a little closer to their dream of being considered bringers of good luck.
