Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: A Fateful Encounter

The moonlight flowed like water, spilling over the ancient city. A gentle breeze brushed past, carrying a faint scent of sea salt, winding its way through the narrow alleys. The streets, bathed in the shadow of night, were quiet and profound, as if concealing countless unsolved mysteries. Occasionally, the dim glow of streetlights cast flickering shadows on the cobblestone path, reminiscent of ghosts lost in the passage of time.

Chen Shanyi stood at the end of the street, her gaze fixed on the distant, receding flow of traffic. Something seemed to pull at her heart, a sensation that she couldn't shake off. She took a deep breath, feeling the weight of history in the air, as if every brick and tile of the city bore witness to the passage of time. Frowning slightly, she rubbed her neck, trying to detach herself from the strange feeling that had enveloped her.

"What am I doing here?" she whispered to herself, though her eyes were involuntarily drawn to a figure in the distance.

It was a man, dressed in a dark robe, his back tall and upright, walking with a steady, confident stride, as if the entire world were within his grasp. Chen

Shanyi felt an inexplicable pull in her chest as her eyes remained fixed on him. There was something about the man that seemed both familiar and distant, as if he existed outside of time itself. His presence exuded an aura of quiet power, the kind that made everything around him seem insignificant in comparison.

As he walked closer, the moonlight illuminated his features, revealing a face that was sharp and handsome, with an intensity in his eyes that could not be ignored. He seemed to glide through the night, as if he was part of it, blending seamlessly with the shadows and the cold air.

Chen Shanyi's heart raced, her instincts telling her that she should look away, but she couldn't. It was as though her body was being drawn toward him, despite every rational thought urging her to turn back. She stood frozen, watching him approach, unable to tear her gaze away.

The man stopped just a few steps away from her, as if he had been walking toward her the entire time. He tilted his head slightly, his eyes locking with hers. For a moment, the world seemed to fall away—there was only the two of them, standing in the middle of the quiet, moonlit street.

"Are you lost?" His voice was low, smooth, and carried a strange resonance, as if it vibrated through the very air around them.

Chen Shanyi blinked, taken aback by his sudden appearance and his penetrating gaze. She opened her mouth to speak, but for some reason, the words wouldn't come. Instead, she simply shook her head, still trying to make sense of the strange pull she felt toward him.

"No," she finally whispered, "I'm not lost. But I think you might be."

The man smiled, a faint, enigmatic curve of his lips, as if her response was exactly what he had expected. He didn't speak again but continued to stare at her, his gaze heavy with something she couldn't place. For a brief moment, she thought she saw a flicker of recognition in his eyes, something ancient and sorrowful, but just as quickly, it vanished.

"Perhaps," he murmured, his voice barely audible, "but some things are meant to be found."

Before Chen Shanyi could respond, the man turned and walked past her, his figure fading into the shadows of the alley. She stood still, her heart still racing, a strange sense of loss settling over her despite the fact that they had never truly exchanged words.

For a long moment, she remained rooted to the spot, staring at the empty space where he had stood, wondering who he was, and why she felt as if she had just crossed paths with someone she had known for centuries.
