Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Past in the Mist

The streetlights shone softly in the night, and the air carried a chill. Chen Shanyi stood still, her eyes fixed on Siska before her, her heart in turmoil. She could hardly believe it—she was truly standing in front of this man. Last night, she had thought it was just a dream, that the man with an ancient aura, warm yet cold, seemed to belong to another world. But now, here he was, right in front of her.

"You..." Her voice trembled as she tried to control her emotions, but she found herself unable to suppress the fear in her heart. "Why are you here? Who are you really?"

Siska's gaze was as deep as the ocean, seeming to penetrate her very soul. He did not answer immediately but stood quietly, a fleeting emotion flashing in his eyes. That emotion was hard to decipher—perhaps sadness, perhaps anticipation, or perhaps an inscrutable resolve.

"I know you have many questions, Shanyi," he spoke slowly, his voice deep and magnetic, "It is time to uncover the answers."

"Uncover?" Chen Shanyi repeated in confusion, the fog in her mind growing thicker. "You say it so lightly, but I don't understand what you mean."

"You don't need to know everything, at least not yet," Siska's tone remained gentle, but there was an undeniable force behind it, "I just want to tell you that fate has already bound you to me, and the connection between us is far beyond your understanding."

A shiver ran through Chen Shanyi, and it was as though a lightning bolt flashed through her mind. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself. "What do you want from me?"

"You should know," Siska suddenly smiled faintly, his eyes holding an indescribable mystery, "The story between us has long been predestined. It's just that you've never remembered."

Chen Shanyi's heartbeat quickened. She had never met this man; he could not possibly be someone she knew. But why, upon hearing his words, did she feel an overwhelming sense of familiarity, as though his words had been buried deep within her heart for a long time, waiting for the right moment to be awakened?

"What are you saying?" Her voice nearly turned into a growl. "Where are you really from?"

Siska's face showed no signs of anger; he simply sighed lightly, as if resigned to her confusion. He took a step forward, looking directly into her eyes. "You don't remember, do you? It's a memory you deliberately erased."

Chen Shanyi froze, her heart flooded with shock. Her mind went blank, and she couldn't understand what he was saying. Yet, deep within her, a part of her felt that Siska was not speaking empty words.

"I..." Her voice trembled. "I've never forgotten anything."

"Do you still remember those vague dreams?" Siska asked softly, his gaze warm yet profound. "Do you remember those feelings you can't explain? They were not random; they are fragments of your memory, telling you a truth you've never fully understood."

Instinctively, Chen Shanyi took a step back, her body trapped by an inexplicable sense of pressure. She had never taken those dreams seriously, until recently, when she began to realize they weren't just fantasies, but some undeniable premonition. Every time she dreamed of those images, of a man who was both strange and familiar, her heart would tighten involuntarily, as if the dream was a part of her life.

"What are you saying?" Her voice was low, laced with unease. "What does this all mean?"

Siska did not hurry to respond; he merely smiled softly. That smile seemed full of helplessness but also carried an imperceptible hint of pain.

"You don't completely forget me," he said, staring deeply into her eyes, his voice low. "You once loved me deeply, but you were forced to forget. You thought it was just an insignificant past, but in reality, it was the most important history of your life."

Chen Shanyi felt her chest tighten, as if something had been touched. Her heart raced, as if something deep within her consciousness was trying to break free, yet the memory trying to escape was still shrouded in a thick fog.

"What you're saying... it's impossible," she shook her head, trying to see clearly, but every time she tried to think, her mind was filled with chaotic images. She took a deep breath, struggling to calm herself. "I've never seen you before, I've never loved you. What are you talking about?"

Siska slowly reached out, gently brushing her hair. His touch was tender and familiar, as if offering silent comfort. "You don't realize it, but you've already unknowingly lost a part of yourself." His voice carried deep sorrow. "I once vowed to you that when you returned to my side, our story would truly begin."

Chen Shanyi's mind went blank. She felt as though she was standing at the edge of a bottomless abyss, on the verge of falling into it. She didn't know how to react, didn't know how to face this man who was both strange and familiar.

"You..." She opened her mouth, trying to say something, but in the end, she couldn't bring herself to speak.

Siska's gaze grew even more profound. He sighed gently and spoke softly. "Whether you're willing to accept it or not, Shanyi, our fates have already intertwined. You're just not ready to face it."

His voice was like silent waves, slowly crashing against her heart. Although he did not speak of anything specific, that undeniable force had already taken root in her heart, growing stronger.
