Shane's POV
Walking back to camp half dazed one word kept consuming my mind, 'Soulmate'.
First of all that is supposed to be impossible, I'm dealing well with things Walkers and all but throw mystical BS like floating screens, other worlds (don't even get me started on that one) and soulmates? I am sure as hell done, the worlds changed and I'm not sure I can keep up with it as well as I thought I could.
As I keep walking I finally get back to camp, still in a daze I can feel something calling out to me "ane-Shane, Hey Shane" A hand grabs my arm knocking me out of my daze. I look to see who it is and notice that it is Lori.
"Huh, what?"
"I said did you find anything on the hunt?" I shake my head and she huffs with a disbelieving look on her face, she starts shaking her head at me. "Seriously? You didn't find anything?" She huffs again this time louder, turns around and starts walking to the campervan her, Carl and I are staying. As she walks away, I pick up more of what she says under her breath. "Ugh what a useless piece of muscle, if Rick were still alive, he would have made sure to bring something back for me and his son."
Shocked at the fact that I can hear her from 15ft away while she's mumbling purposefully and completely forgetting the snide comments she was making, my mind trails back to the agonising pain he had felt back in the woods along with Leo. Body modification! That happened didn't it? After that screen said Distributing rewards my body went through all that pain and renewed afterwards.
Suddenly an annoyingly familiar noise rang in his mind
'Ding'
"Congratulations to Shane Walsh for uncovering the secrets of the Body modification reward. Reward: Detailed research notes on the Body modification and Guide for the strong by Everett Sargent"
Two thuds were heard one after the other. A small green hardback book that seemed to thick for its spine as if each page was turned and used. The other was a A small thin book that was bright red and the bold words 'Guide for the strong by Everett Sargent'. Snapping out of a daze at this weird scenario and seeing both books on the ground, he grabbed them up before anyone could see them and made his way towards his campervan.
Once inside he looked around and saw that Carl wasn't in his makeshift bed on the sofa. He then heard Lori moving about in the bathroom going through the cupboard above the sink. He went over to his bed with a sense of urgency and placed the two books under his pillow.
As he was doing this, Lori walked out the bathroom and he moved his body into a position to seem like nothing had happened with his body lying on its side and his forearm propping his head up and smiled in her direction.
When Lori saw Shane laying on the bed, she smirked at him and started making her way towards the bed and crawled forward. "Carl is going to be out for another hour, he's at Carols' playing with Sophia. We can go a few if you want."
In the moment nothing could have sounded worse to Shane. He was overcome with a sense of rejection aimed towards Lori and kept picturing Elio in his head smiling at him. But to please her and keep her happy he agreed. He wasn't totally onboard with the whole soulmate thing yet and wasn't the type of person to let that control his life so with as much enthusiasm as he could he pulled her on top of him. When on top of him he laid back smirking at her and she straddled his hips she started moving her hips trying to arouse him. She quickly noticed something was different about him, his body had changed it was more toned and refined than the heap of muscle it used to be. Seeing this made her even more enthusiastic so after a couple of moments when she felt nothing change below her, she decided to help a little and she leant down to his lips and started kissing him.
Nothing had felt more wrong in his entire life, sitting on top of him was Lori the person he had been in love with since the moment they met, even though she decided to talk to Rick first and they in the end got married. But now he felt in this moment was the complete opposite he felt grossed out and repulsed and was overwhelmed with a sense of disgust when she leant down to kiss him.
She could tell something was wrong when he wasn't kissing back. Lori opened her eyes and pulled back. She was shocked by what she was seeing, Shane had a grimace on his face like he had just bitten into an entire clove of garlic. Their eyes met and you could see the panic rise in his eyes when he saw her face. She was pissed.
In one swift movement she turned off his hips and was standing on the floor facing the wall. I followed the action and sat up with both arms behind me keeping me up. "What happened, why did you stop?" I could tell the words were wrong when they came out of my mouth. I don't know why I am trying to fight for this to continue when I clearly wasn't feeling it at all. I just think I didn't want to have to deal with Lori when she is pissed because, honestly, that isn't fun for anyone.
"Seriously, you are asking me why I stopped? You want me to continue to throw myself at you and humiliate myself? When it is so obvious you'd rather be making out with a shoe with shit stuck to the bottom. You know what save it. I want you out of that bed, Carl will be sleeping with me tonight you can sleep in his bed. It would work out for the best anyways he's been having nightmare the past couple days."
She stormed out of the van with an over-the-top slam of the door and a loud whisper of "such an asshole" or just a normal whisper I couldn't tell this heightened hearing is confusing me. I fell back down to the bed and huffed out a breath I didn't know I was holding. After minutes of staring at the ceiling I focused back in on my thoughts. 'The books!'
