Aurora James - POV
I looked down at the wet earth to see that I was barefoot. The sky was dark, and the only thing in front of me was Amanda's house. The front door was wide open, and the orange glow spilled out onto the porch.
I looked around when I realized that I was alone again. My heartbeat became uneven as I took unsteady steps toward the house. As I walked inside, I saw that the house was a mess. There was broken glass on the floor, and the wooden furniture was destroyed beyond recognition.
"Amanda?" I whispered as I felt my voice echo while I walked deeper inside. I first walked into the living room to see that it was empty when I turned around and continued walking towards the stairs.
I only took one step when I heard the piercing wail of a baby. My blood ran cold when I ran up the stairs in the direction of the cry. "Amanda!" my voice was a little louder right now as I looked inside the rooms, but I couldn't find her or the baby.
I ran down the hallway when I saw that the door at the end was wide open, and as I got closer, I was able to hear the cry even louder. My heart began to beat faster as I stood in front of the doorway.
The baby was on the floor, wrapped in a blanket, while Amanda was beside him. "Amanda?" I called out as I took unsteady steps into the room. There was a pool of blood surrounding them, and when I moved toward her face, I felt like my heart came to a stop.
Her eyes were wide open, staring at space while her forehead was cracked open. "I told you, you could never save her." my head snapped up when I saw the rogue standing near the window sill.
"How could you do that? She has a fucking child!" I growled as I charged at him. Without a second thought, I saw him pull out a knife from his pocket and stab me in the stomach.
"Argh!" I screamed as my eyes abruptly opened. Sweat had coated my forehead while I stared at the familiar room in the cabin. My heart was beating so fast that it hurt my ribs as I tried to calm myself down.
The dream felt so vivid as I got up from the bed and walked towards the window to stare outside. Alpha Lopez and Zander assured me that the rogue would not come back inside, but I know that they were trying to create a sense of false safety.
The rogue managed to come into this pack more than once without being detected, and I knew he would be able to do it again. "Why did the rogue want to kill her?"
"Only she might know the answer to that, Aurora," Lily said, and I know she was right. I made my way to the bathroom, and after taking a quick shower, I put on some clothes and walked out of the cabin. The sun was shining bright, warming the otherwise chilly atmosphere.
I took the path that led to the training ground, and as I got closer, I saw that the number of warriors training today had increased compared to the last time I was here. I was standing near the sideline as I looked at them train when a particular practice session captivated me.
My legs began moving on their own accord toward the crowd, and as I got closer, that was when I saw who it was. Zander and Levi were inside the ring and they were fighting in their human form. The warriors who were watching this fight moved aside as they gave me the room to see what was happening.
I felt my heart come to a screeching halt when I got a glimpse of Levi's face. It was blotted to the size of a balloon, his right eye was shut close, and there was a cut on his lips. My eyes locked with Zander's when I saw that he barely had a scratch on his face, and his eyes were pitch black.
"Levi!" my voice was filled with panic as I looked at the spectators. "Why the fuck aren't you stopping that! He might die!" I growled, and when I was about to step into the ring, I felt two warriors hold me behind.
"Miss. James, Levi would have given up if he feels like he…" I didn't hear his reasoning when I heard an audible gasp around me. Levi was on the floor, and Zander had turned into his wolf. Zander was blinded by rage right now, and I know that whatever I say now would only fall on deaf ears.
Everyone was shocked to see their Beta changed into his wolf, and I took this chance and stomped on the warriors' legs, their hold me flattered, and I took this chance as I ran into the ring. Zander was about to tear Levi's throat out when I went in between them. "Zander, stop this!" I yelled in a firm tone.
My heart was beating so fast, I was afraid that I might go into cardiac arrest right now while the wolf glanced at me. "If something happens to him, I will never speak to you." I retorted. Right at that moment, I did not care who was watching us.
I saw a look of fear cross his eyes, and slowly, he stepped back and soon shifted back into his human form. I looked away from him when I turned around to see Levi was unconscious on the ground. "Levi?" I said as I lightly shook his shoulder, but he was unresponsive.
I looked at the warriors and glared at them. "What are you waiting for? Take him to the hospital now!" I commanded, and soon, two of them rushed towards Levi and carried him away.
"You almost got hurt." I heard a deep growl behind me. I turned around when I saw Zander was shaking in anger.
"You almost ruined my chance at happiness." I spat out.
