Chapter 57 - Chapter 57

Beta Zander Perez - POV

I felt like someone hit me with a rock as I felt my heart squeeze in agony. There was so much anger and hatred swirling in her eyes while tears flowed down her cheeks. I wanted to go towards her and pull her into a hug, but I knew that she would simply push me away. I didn't know what I could reply to her accusation as I stood glaring at her.

I can feel the presence of my warriors around me, and I know the rumor mill must have already started. "Aurora, you should never come in between a fight." I calmly said.

"If I didn't, you would have simply killed Levi today," she stated, and I didn't even argue. I know what she said was true. I was furious that she wanted Levi to raise my child when I was still alive and well. I lost control of my wolf when I was inside that ring, but I didn't dare stop Ares.

There was this small voice within me that told me to kill him so that I would get my mate and child back. And I almost did if it wasn't for Aurora. "What is going on in here?" both Aurora and I looked around when I saw Adrian come towards us.

The pale blue shirt he was wearing was stained with blood, and this put me on alert. "Whose blood is that?" I asked him as he came to a stop in front of me, hiding Aurora behind him.

"Levi's, you almost killed him." Adrian accused me while suspicion swirled in his eyes.

"I lost control." I bluntly replied when he shook his head.

"Can we go to your office, Beta Perez?" Adrian asked me, and this made me raise an eyebrow at him. He never uses my title except when we are on official duty or if he is really pissed at me. And I think it is the latter right now.

"Let's go," I told him, and as we walked away from the training ground, I realized that Aurora was long gone. As I reached my house, I walked inside and made my way to the office.

I heard my office door close as I poured a glass of whiskey and down it in one go before going for a second glass. "You have been acting strange ever since Aurora came to this pack." Adrian asserted as I turned around to face him.

"Get to the point, Adrian." I snapped at him when he crossed his hands as he eyed the glass in my hand.

"She is your mate, isn't she?" he asked me, and eerily, I wasn't alarmed by his question. After my actions towards her these past few days, I have a feeling that everyone in this pack has the same thought, but no one has the courage to say it out loud.

"Yes," I answered as I downed the second glass and poured another. I felt a sense of guilt engulfed me as I avoided eye contact with Adrain. Adam and Adrain were the only people who stood by my side during the darkest phase of my life.

It was not easy for me to move on after Heather bluntly rejected me and moved on elsewhere. I felt like I lost a part of myself. Ares didn't even speak to me for almost three months, and I was gradually losing my mind. But it was these two people who pulled me up from the murky waters.

"What is going on between the two of you, Zander?" Adrain asked me when a dark look crossed my face.

"I was afraid to fall in love again, Adrian. And I..." I felt my eyes cloud with tears as I looked away from my best friend. The last time I cried was when I found out that Heather cheated on me. And ever since then, I had shut everyone out.

I felt a firm arm on my shoulder when I turned around to see Adrian standing there. "She is not like Heather, Zander. And I think you should not push her away anymore."

"I don't know what to do right now anymore, Adrian. I made a big mistake, and I don't think she would ever forgive me." I mumbled when a frown appeared on his face.

"What did you do?" he asked when I took a deep breath and faced him.

"Do you remember we had a full moon a few weeks ago?" I asked him, and he nodded his head. "Well, we couldn't control our wolves and mated," I said when a smile formed on his face.

"So that is your child she is carrying?" Adrian asked me, and I nodded my head. "What is the problem with that?"

"When we woke up the next day, I panicked and indirectly called her a slut." I said when the smile faded on his face. He didn't utter a word for a long time when I felt his hand connect with my cheek.

The slap made my ear ring, but I didn't react as I stared at him. There was pure rage in his eyes as he glared at me. "You know you made a huge mistake, right?" Adrian asked me, but I didn't say anything. "Did she reject you?" he asked me after a long pause when I shook my head.

"But I am afraid she might do that, Adrian. Today, when I hit Levi, all I saw in her eyes was hatred, and I am afraid I am too late." I mumbled as I turned around to face the glass wall. The sky was gloomy, just like my mood, as I took a sip from my glass.

"You can fix it," Adrian said after a long time when I turned around to face him with a confused look on my face.

"How?"

"Show her that you truly love her and make sure you ask for forgiveness for what you did."

"I don't know if she would give me a chance again."

"Don't give up now, Zander. You might lose her forever if you do that."
