Chapter 58 - Chapter 58

Aurora James - POV

I was waiting outside the emergency room when Doctor Jenkins finally walked outside. "How is he doing, doctor?" I asked her while I felt my heartbeat palpitate.

"Most of his wounds have healed, Miss. James. He will be able to head back home in a few hours." she told me, and I nodded my head.

"Can I go and see him?" I asked her, and she nodded her head before walking away. As I walked into the emergency room, I realized that Levi was the only patient in there today. He was propped up on his bed when a painful smile formed on his face.

"I am sorry," I whispered when my eyes watered.

"Why are you sorry?" he asked me when I looked at his injuries. There was a plaster on his forehead, and his right arm was in a sling.

"It's because of me that you are in this state, Levi. I don't think I could let you suffer like this anymore. I will tell Zander that…"

"Don't." he interrupted me when a frown formed on my face.

"But look at what he has done to you," I exclaimed as I pointed at his injuries when a sheepish smile formed on his face.

"We were never supposed to have a fighting session, Aurora. I may have provoked him a little, which led him to completely lose control of his wolf and…"

"Why did you do that?"

"I wanted to see if what you are fighting for is worth it. And I think I have got my answer to that question," he said in a cryptic tone.

"And that is?"

"He has some sort of feelings towards you."

"I am done going behind him trying to make him see my worth, Levi," I said when he raised an eyebrow at me.

"So, what are you going to do?"

"Nothing, my probationary period is coming to an end in a month, and I will give him till then to prove that he wants me and asks for my forgiveness for what he did. But if he fails to do that, I will pack and be on my way. I don't think I can wait for him to realize his mistake for the rest of my life." I asserted, but Levi didn't say anything.

"I hope you make the right decision." that was all Levi said as we remained quiet. I didn't stay in there for long because two of Levi's friends came to see him, so I took this as a chance to slip out of there.

I walked out of the pack hospital and walked back into the forest towards Amanda's house. It was a solid thirty-minute walk, but I enjoyed the tranquility that surrounded me. The dirt pathway was scattered with dried leaves, and every time I stamped on it, I heard the satisfying sound of a crunch. The birds in the forest were singing their own tune while I saw a few forest animals run past me.

As I walked out of the forest pathway, I saw the familiar house, but right now, two warriors were standing outside. The moment they saw me, they gave me a pleasant smile and let me walk up the steps.

I lightly knocked on the door a few times and stepped back, waiting for her to open. "Miss. James?" I turned around to see Amanda's husband standing in the doorway, looking surprised at my presence.

"Hello, is Amanda home?" I asked him, and he nodded his head and opened the door wider for me to walk inside. He led me to the living room, where I saw Amanda seated on a rocking chair with her baby as I heard her soft voice sing.

"Amanda." her husband called when she looked up. I didn't know what was going on in her mind right now, and I didn't dare look inside either as a blank look crossed her face.

"Miss. James, I was expecting you here," she said as she gestured towards the couch.

"I will see you later, sweetheart." her husband told her, and she nodded her head as he walked towards her and placed a brief kiss on her lips before he placed a gentle kiss on the baby's forehead as he walked out of the house.

As I heard the front door close, I turned around to face her. "I know you know why the rogue was here that night." I went straight to the point when a bitter smile crossed her face.

"I don't know why the rogue was here, Miss. James. I have never seen him in my life." she told me when I shook my head.

"I know you have never seen him in your life. But you know why he was here." I said when she looked at me with a blank look. "Two people had already died, and we have no idea why they were killed. You could have met the same fate if I did not intervene, Amanda." I told her when my eyes locked with the baby in her arms. "At least for the sake of your son, tell me why he was here," I said.

The smile on her face slowly flattered as she looked up at me. Various emotions were swirling in her eyes when she finally let out a sigh. "My mother told me to protect this with my life. But that night changed something within me." she began as she got up from her chair and walked towards the glass window. "Would you promise to not tell this to anyone, Miss James?" she asked me.

I didn't know if I could give her that because whatever she was about to say right now might just change the entire dynamics of this pack or the werewolf race itself. "Two people died for reasons unknown, and we have no idea who is the next victim. I cannot promise you that I can keep this a secret for a long time, Amanda." I bluntly told her when she nodded her head. She walked towards me and extended her baby towards me.

"Could you hold him for a moment?" she asked me, and I nodded my head.
